  1. Fear not. I'm fairly sure Somerset will beat us next week. They won't have liked being well beaten by us on their own patch. The last time I went to Glos v Soms in the County Championship, Trescothick was bowled third ball by Mike Smith, Somerset were on the ropes and Richard Johnson smashed a ton from No.8 (we still managed to win, though!)
  2. Not sure if you or any of the other Glos fans on here have seen it, but there's a good interview with David Payne on TMS Online at the moment. One of the things he said was that our thumping at Taunton last year has made us pull our socks up. I'm looking forward to getting down to watch Glos next week, just hope this abysmal weather buggers off by then.
  3. While there's no doubt he's an athelte who might improve, I see a player that's neither a winger or striker. His two league goals were charge downs and he's consistently shown a lack of composure in key positions. Unlike late bloomers like Reid, Semenyo hasn't come through any academy from a young age and doesn't have that football brain. I thought the penny might have dropped in the Cup at Millwall, but we've seen nothing like that since. Personally, I would accept £3m+ for Semenyo in the current financial climate with several add-ons to ensure payment if he does develop. Those funds could be used to inject more quality over quantity back into the squad. If a deal could be done quickly and reinforcements could be in before the start of pre-season, it's a no-brainer for me.
  4. Totally agree. It will be interesting to see how we fare having to defend a score, seeing as we’ve chased for each of the four wins so far.
  5. Four wins from five in what’s been a superb start to the season for Glos. I’m really enjoying the brand of cricket we’re playing and the new county cricket format.
  6. 11 in the match for Payne. Tremendous figures, albeit in helpful conditions.
  7. The lad's class, shame he's gas. I played against him when he was in his teens. He trotted out in a Glos helmet playing for Winterbourne under his brother's captaincy. Batted straight but couldn't hit the ball off the square. You could see he had something, though. Fingers crosssed we get two sessions in at Lord's tomorrow.
  8. Yeah, Abbot had two seasons at Clevedon in 2008 and 2009. He was more of a batting all-rounder at that point.
  9. Abbot had a few summers at Clevedon and turned out for Easton-in-Gordano a few times.
  10. And some dodgy early decisions against us to boot. I'm convinced had this not been on Sky, we'd have got at least two decisions. Makes the lack of a replay a bit ironic, really.
  11. I'm also in favour of the new format, not just for those reasons you mention, but I really like the regularity of games every week. I'm sure the players are the same. Playing County Cricket in blocks like this without the distraction of white-ball cricket promotes focus and allows players to hone their craft. It can only be a good thing, especially for England.
  12. Great win for Glos, great partnership from Lace and Cockbain. But my goodness, Leicestershire are shit. To concede 39 extras (almost 11% of the chase target) tells its own story.
  13. Win the toss, bat first only really applies on flat tracks with a clear forecast, though. I thought the decision to put Leics in yesterday was a good one, on a green pitch and under cloudy skies. We didn't bowl well, though, and spilled too many catches. I suspect there might be a bit of complacency creeping in as Leics are poor.
  14. That's fantastic to see, IMO. I was out in India and watched his England debut in Mumbai. He has everything, got a half-century with a broken hand and lost his way. Happy to see he's on his way back. England need him if he's anywhere near where he was in 2016. Shaw chanelling his inner Boycott, and Dom Goodman looks like a bit of a find. We definitely lack a decent spinner. Shame Dawson couldn't get Bess.
  15. We bowled pretty poorly yesterday, except for Worrall and Higgins. Shaw in particular has bowled like a drain. The sooner Payne's missus gives birth, the better. Not for the first time we miss a quality spinner on slow, flat decks like this. I agree a draw seems likely. We even slowed our over rate right down after lunch. Just need our batsmen to fill their boots. Against Mohammed Abbas, however, that's no certainty.
  16. Belting win for us, the first in 28 years vs Somerset in the Championship apparently, and special stuff from Bracey. Our bowlers deserve great credit too for setting it up. Fantastic start to the season. Go Glos.
  17. Losing Dent before the close was a blow but there’s enough batting to get us over the line. Fingers crossed. Either way, it’s been a great game between two evenly-matched sides. Who’d have thought that of us three years ago?
  18. The pendulum swinging back and forth is the beauty of four-day cricket, IMO. These look like two evenly-matched teams. Brathwaite looked classy, Dent picked up where he left off and Bracey is taking his game to the next level. Hankins is a concern, though.
  19. I wouldn’t say that. Bracey’s knock was top drawer and Matt Taylor’s got a career-best first-class score. Payne’s no mug, either
  20. Can't help but think we could've had them out for around 200 if we had a decent spinner to get rid of their long tail. We bowled well, though. I thought the young lad, Goodman, did a decent job and was unlucky with a few decisions going against him. Somerset have a competitive total on the board.
  21. He's a better white-ball player, IMO. Decent start for Glos. Two wickets and a few close LBW shouts turned down so far. Where's DRS when you need it?!
  22. Jared Warner, ex-England U19 and Yorkshire, should be available but he's currently playing in the Seconds at Worcester (took 2-40). I'm not sure if David Worrall, the Australian seamer, is out of quarantine yet. If he is, he'll probably come in. Someone (possibly Jack Taylor) also needs to drop out to accommodate Kraigg Brathwaite in the top three as well.
  23. Misread your post, oops! Sorry, Starti!
  24. Pretty sure you beat us twice in the four-day stuff last year, first by an innings and plenty at Taunton then bowling us out for under 100 in both innings in the Bob Willis Trophy. Plus you have matchwinners like Banton, Gregory and Leach to call upon. I also think us lacking a decent spinner puts us at a disadvantage. We shall see.
  25. Hopefully so. Somerset will be heavy favourites, though. I'd just like to see Glos build on that first result.
