And I'm extremely grateful every time it comes up as it gets me every time!

    'And that's it really'

Funniest, and most apt, thing I’ve seen all year. I will never get bored of watching that! Nail on the head! 🤣

You’re clearly not looking in the right places.  If you seriously think that 97% of fans are angry about Pearson going then I suspect you’re way off the mark.  Most fans have seen it all before.  Managers come and go.  It’s part of football.  Pearson had a good run, and has done some very good work, but at the end of the day, we’re in the same position we were in four seasons ago and have just lost a manager with one of the worst win percentages in the clubs history.  I’ve talked to Pearson and I liked him, but it’s hardly a huge surprise that he’s gone.  Time to move on.

Time the Lansdowns and Tinnion moved on as well, mind.

Looks very likely that the new head coach won't have been appointed by Saturday, which is quite surprising when you consider

    a) they've already been considering Nige's replacement for over three weeks

    b) Jon said that for the first time in over 20 years of running the club they have absolute clarity on the type of head coach they want

I understand they need to be diligent, and in fairness a not outrageous period of time has passed since Nige's sacking, but you really would have thought they'd at least be very close to an appointment by now - and I'm not getting those vibes.

It’s not surprising given the Lansdowns’ track record of dithering and woeful appointments!

Rewind to 2020 when it took six weeks: “We’ve run a thorough and vigorous process, we had a wide range of candidates” blah blah blah.

They don’t have a clue what they’re doing. That’s the reality.

  4. With Nige and players coming back into the squad from injury, a minimum of four points and probably six should have been the target.

Now, again it depends on who’s fit and available, but I’m nowhere near as confident and doubt we’ll even get three points from the next two games.

But as others rightly point out, nothing but promotion will do for JL and Tinnion, despite the injuries, so it has to be six points. They’ve set that expectation, anything else is failure.

    Zero chance of Fleming.

I agree mate and I’m not saying it will be Fleming; just that it would not surprise me if that’s where they end up. They’ve got previous for this with Holden.

When they sacked Cotts, LJ sat in his seat the next day. I was expecting the same after Nige. What’s the delay now? Was it a knee-jerk decision? Are they paying compo for someone? I don’t think they have a clue what they’re doing.

    Want Nigel Pearson

Will get Tinnion as head coach assisted by Curtis Fleming

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if either of them takes charge. I really wouldn’t.

They’re on record as saying they want a head coach. That rules out Rowett, Jones, Warnock. I doubt we’re going to pay to buy out Robins or Williams. Eustace seems like a no-goer, despite the odds. They won’t take Cotts back.

Are they deluded enough to think they can get a Hassenhutl, Lampard or Parker? I can’t see any of them coming in when the board are on record as saying PL is the aim this season and they have no money to spend.

I severely doubt the board have the nous to appoint anyone from overseas as well. So, where does that leave us? Fleming or Tinnion.

How the hell they let us get into this position beggars belief. Completely reckless, stupid and short-sighted. Clueless fools, all of them.

  7. No, no, no, top half was how I voted the other day. It’s also how I feel today and how I will vote at the end of the season.

The Lansdowns and Tinnion take us all for absolute mugs, nothing’s clearer than that after watching those interviews yesterday, the propaganda videos of the injured suddenly rising from the treatment table, and even the Bristol Sport bots on here.

It takes the piss that they think so lowly of us fans, to the extent that we will stomach any decision they make, swallow every word they speak, and even be swayed by Russian-style influencers.

There’s a real arrogant complacency stemming from board level and it stinks. But I see through it and I won’t be swayed come what May. Their time is up and deep down I bet they know it.

Thanks. I would say that most of those in the betting are managers not coaches. I can't see them being prepared to do what Tinnion tells them to do.

To add to that, I think plenty of managers and coaches won’t fancy working under the Lansdowns after how they treated Nige and how they’ve gone public about wanting promotion this season, despite the injuries and lack of funds. Failure is inevitable against those unrealistic goals.

Don’t think Pearson was the best man imo I think he flattered to deceive on the pitch and we didn’t threaten enough at home. A lot of people are very pro Pearson on her and I understand that I just think he was a tad overrated on the pitch.

Bore off, you plant. We all know you’re Bristol Sport. Onto the ignore list you go

  10. If this is true, surely the board has based this on one performance at Ashton Gate this season.

He spent £7.5m in the summer too, so I wonder how much of the nest egg he will get.

He’s only got 70 games under his belt in professional management, meaning he’s still a novice.

I’ll give him a chance but Nige was undoubtedly the best man for the job right now and Tinnion and the Lansdowns still need to go.

That’s not our problem though, is it?

Super wealthy people can employ clever people to sort legalities like that.

I am astounded by those who still back Lansdown, I am very grateful for the infrastructure but there is nothing else & allowing Tinnion to pull the wool over his eyes like Ashton did, shows he’s either a fool or lost interest.

He’s both, and he needs to go for those reasons.

  12. “We think this is the best squad in my time here” — who built that, Jon?

”We’ve got a few injuries and that’s genuinely the reason to do it [sack Nige]” — so you sacked him because we have 12 injured, 11 of which were contact injuries? Are you ******* joking?

”The change is…. (er, pause) for the benefit of the club in terms of getting to the PL” — the change is more likely to result in us going down, you absolute tool.

Get out of our club, you self-entitled tit.

That six pointer under Benny against Birmingham, still have nightmares about that game,

I remember Mike Dean reffed that game and was so bad I wrote to the FA to complain! 😂 Think they won it with a Martin Grainger penalty.

I’m with others on Benny. He was dropped in at the deep end and out of his depth initially, but I could see he’d turned a corner. The win down at Pompey (Adam Locke scored) was another big win at that time.

  14. When you think back to SL turning a blind eye to the piss head culture of the Wilson era or LJ’s profligacy, he was too loyal. This is the polar opposite. Nige and his staff had earned more loyalty than he got.

I thought Cotts deserved more time, but that doesn’t even come close to this in my 32 years of support when you factor in the experience let go (Rennie included).

Again, I could post this in any number of threads at the moment as it's not specific to Rennie or Euell, but I have absolutely no idea what Lansdown wants anymore.

If he desperately wanted a head coach in a structure that offers stability and succession surely having so many qualified people around Pearson including a highly rated coach like Euell is the perfect platform for that. It's not clear if Euell was also binned off or was offered a role and stuck two fingers up out of loyalty to Pearson (would make some sense), but either way for Lansdown to clearly want a change but preside over such ham-fisted mismanagement of the transition to whatever it is he actually wants, beggars belief.

You can't have stability and succession if you take such clumsy, classless and pre-meditated decisions, and you won't develop good young coaches if you keep torpedoing the first sign of a culture of leadership from the top of your footballing staff that is successfully relaying priceless experience into your leaders of the future (I would include King in that too). Put together with statements about how he wants to run the club, Lansdown no longer strikes me as a rational owner with any agenda besides for his own indulgence.

As such, it's not simply the case (as I've seen written elsewhere) of fans starting to ask questions. It's far far beyond that. For me it's now urgent that the club is sold and we move on from his fantasy and delusion before the next 3 year reset, and sensible fans must do everything in their power to agitate for this. This isn't simply out of deference to NP, but recognising something much more rotten is at play if you consider SL's inconsistency, invisibility and slightly sinister priorities in his decision making over the past 7 years.

The ineptness of now falling out with and losing an experienced CEO and then an experienced manager within five weeks is just the bottom of the barrel.

Absolutely excellent post, @Olé. Agree with all of that and it’s vital we try and force change of ownership. The lies, the lack of communication, the contempt with how they treat us, the lack of a clear strategy.

It’s easy (and lazy) to talk about wanting to be a PL club, but in order to make that happen a lot of things need to be in place, and they go way beyond the stadium and training ground. The only thing about the ridiculously named HPC was Rennie.

Everything they do off the pitch couldn’t be further from PL. That’s down to the Lansdowns and the decisions they’ve made. There’s two decades of evidence and things will only get worse with JL’s influence.

People often talk about apathy at Bristol City. Maybe that’s why the Lansdowns have had it easy for two decades. “It’s my club and I’ll do what I want”. It’s time to remind them it’s our club and their time is up.

  16. I definitely think this decision unnecessarily jeopardises our second-tier status.

We were a team quietly progressing up the table, but now with the sentiment against the owners, the injuries, no medical lead, the transfer window closed (not that it matters as the budget is maxed out), and don’t rule out players who loved Nige downing tools, I would not be at all surprised if we’re down in the bottom six come May.

The only positive I have is that when everyone’s fit, we have a team that’s competitive against anyone on their day.

Possibly, but it was a matter of when. Problem is they don’t like that Nige is outspoken.

Aww, bless those Lansdowns. How dare Nige have opinions that aren’t shared in the boardroom (or should I say around the family dining table).

    Welcome back, @Bcfcshags

None whatsoever - more a case of luck than judgement.

I sense you’re too dug in to accept there were games where Pearson didn’t get it right.

He wasn’t perfect and occasionally made mistakes, just like anyone else does. But don’t try and kid yourself this decision was made for footballing reasons.
