  1. Before the Euros I wouldn't have been able to identify Kalvin Phillips, Bukayo Saka, Mason Mount etc etc I could identify most of the Gas squad from last season, they were legends of Bristol football
  2. Lost out on the play-offs IIRC. Needed to beat Swindon at home in last game of the season to make the play-offs and Owen missed a penalty when it was all square towards the end of the game. But yes Owen missed that one and and the deciding one at Wembley, mind most people around where I was sitting weren't paying much attention to the penalty because a girl had got her tits out!
  3. Working with Joey Barton may not be an issue of course ...
  4. As much as we enjoy taking the piss out of them, that statement and Wael's follow up is simply not funny in any way. It's horrendous, irresponsible and dangerous. To trot out bland platitudes such as the club is against violence in any form when they've employed someone with convictions and pending charges for violence, beggars belief. Still what do you expect if the owner is a man-child. Embarrassing.
  5. That won't be for trial though, just an initial hearing?
  6. I think we have to be a bit careful in claiming the high ground here? It sounds like his wife isn't pressing charges which makes it similar to the Danny Simpson case. Obviously with Barton being the manager rather than 'just' a player, that makes it a bit different and Simpson wasn't employed by City at the time of the offence and the conviction was spent but hitting a woman is the same regardless of who the perpetrator is. I would imagine that he'll be put on gardening leave at the very least until it reaches court but isn't domestic violence difficult to prosecute if the victim doesn't want to press charges? Looking like another huge error in judgment by Wael though, it's not as if this has come out of the blue (no pun intended) with Barton's past convictions and certainly adds to the circus over there.
  7. I'm pretty sure the Pistols only wrote 'Pretty Vacant' so that they got to shout "va...****" on TOTP.
  8. My Grandad was Swindon regular (and went to Wembley) until he was struck down by a Stroke, so I've always had a soft spot for them, at least while we're above them in the league. I'm glad he isnt around to see this shambles, he did live long enough for the Premier League season. It looks like the Wigan situation at the beginning of last season and they pulled through eventually but they had the safety cushion of League 2. Sadly though it looks like there is one club that the Gas are certain to finish above this season I was actually at their last game in the Premier League, in the away end with a couple of Leeds mates. It finished 0-5 to Leeds and we had a stroll around the pitch afterwards.
  9. To be fair, it is quite easy to forget that if they turn over Cheltenham in the League Cup, it will be considered an upset! Let that sink in....
  10. Wow, second highest number of season tickets they've ever sold for the 4th tier. What an achievement, the stuff of dreams........ Also, all those season ticket holders could comfortably fit in the Atyeo.
  11. Astonishing Lansdown meltdown / Playing the victims from user 'gulfofaden' on GasChat Akin to terrorism mind! Lansdown hasn’t just been a benefactor to city, which he is entitled to do, but he’s also been antagonistic to Rovers on any occasion he can to win favour with his fan base including the Matt Taylor saga which given the fact we got the exact release fee (which was supposed to be confidential) is akin to terrorism in football terms. He’s also putting posters on the Glocs road, getting his sponsors to ridicule us through postal campaigns and trying very hard to get a club who for much of his life was a giant firm of bedminster hooligans who regularly smashed up our ground and attacked and threatened our players pegged as some “family club”. They have some normal fans of course but also a giant contingent on cocaine and cider addled specimens which dwarf, and have always dwarfed, ours, even pro rata. You think he couldn’t see all that victimisation and violence in the 80s and 90s? Was he blind? Of course he wasn’t my. That’s fine, he can still bankroll the club but to do so, and still pander to those guys and continually harrass and target us knowing full well the asymmetric history between us, is beneath contempt. It wasn’t 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. It was grown men targeting families and players in their own homes. If he had adopted the attitude of “City is my club, Good luck to Rovers but I hope we are always above them” then I would have all the time in the world for him. He didn’t, he, like a playground bully, has been sadistic and provocative in swinging his weight around, to a club he knows can’t really fight back. And the reason for this? The heinous crime which caused this ire? We used to beat them a lot, before. When we were in dire straights and on paper we shouldn’t have. That’s it. That’s what all this is about. https://gaschat.co.uk/thread/18097/bristol-owner-steve-lansdown-writes?page=2
  12. Absolutely. Should have got him a year ago though. Would have been about £1m...
  13. Maidenhead United do actually have a "Bell End" I believe...
  14. Agree, I think your best chance of staying up this season would have been to stick with Ben Garner. a) it was his team so the players were more likely to respond to the guy who signed them, rather than managers who consistently told them they weren't good enough b) When he was sacked, you were clear of the relegation zone despite having played several of the better teams in the league in the early fixtures. The buck has to stop at the top though, Wael has made several catastrophic decisions which has led to this relegation and it was entirely self inflicted, so blame ultimately has to lie with him. Same with Lansdown here, they both put too much trust in those below them and should have been a lot more hands-on. Bristol football really has been a total shambles this season and it's just not good enough for a city of this size, especially when you see how what the rugby club has achieved.
  15. Has there ever been a period of time when both Bristol clubs have been so bad? We last won a game on 13th March, since then they've won one game; Doncaster 2-1 and drawn 2. We've drawn 3. Both surrendered a 2 goal lead to lose 3-2 in that time etc etc Similar problems with both sets of players, particularly physically and mentally weak players. Do footballers just come to Bristol for an easy life? 1980-81 is all that comes to mind, finished bottom two of Division 2.
  16. No real views on Lee Johnson one way or the other since he left here, but someone calling him "Bilbo Bellend" on that forum did make me laugh I have to admit.
  17. Well hopefully it could very well be a long time before they "experience such a downfall", for a start they've got to get back to L1! "We are one million strong". We know that they're prone to exaggeration but this is a whole new level of delusion.
  18. Amazing story at Torquay, 90+8 equaliser after being 2 down to go top and Sutton Utd now losing in the late fixture.
  19. Really thought he would be a good fit for them and thought he'd keep them up when he was appointed. They weren't even in the bottom 4 at the time, so far from an impossible job. Instead he's gone in like a wrecking ball and pretty much trashed the place. Happy days.
  20. The Hitman sends them to the bottom of the table. You couldn't make this stuff up!
  21. Absolutely this. I think it's pretty likely Swindon will get a points deduction, so they need to finish below Rovers and to lose to the other relegation teams they have to play (Wigan and Wimbledon). That woud very likely send the Gas down regardless of any Swindon deduction.
  22. It would just be so weird if they do go on a losing streak now. Streaky at 3 different clubs and over multiple seasons here but nothing really tangible to explain it, unless it's sort of become a self-fulfilling prophecy after say the first 2 at Barnsley and here. Do the players start to think 'here we go again' and are affected psychologically. I'm sure a psychologist would have a field day.....
  23. I would guess that it's the word 'negligent' that's the problem. Quite a strong word in legal matters....
  24. Yeah I did a second take when I read it!
  25. "HMS Piss the League is pretty much at the bottom of the ocean." https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/joey-barton-wael-bristol-rovers-5222982
