Just 8 days ago the gap was 15 points, on the current trajectory QPR and Wednesday could catch us within 6/7 games. I think it's maybe more likely Stoke and maybe Birmingham continue to sink. Yes having lived in Devon for 3 years, no one outside of Torquay has much interest in Torquay! Plymouth v Exeter is a pretty fierce rivalry though. I think Torquay stayed full-time in National League South which would be insane if true. I was at Plainmoor for the infamous Torquay v Bristol City game in 83/84.

Why would the football authorities have a vendetta against Everton in particular? You'd have thought if they wanted rid of certain teams for some strange reason, it would be the less famous, poorly supported clubs like Bournemouth or Brentford that don't bring in as much money?

Have you seen where they are in the League though? They're having a terrible season despite signing or trying to sign, every decent striker in the lower leagues. Real chance they could drop to L2. Fair play to Carlisle though, having the season from hell, rock bottom but averaging >1200 away supporters. A bit like Plymouth in that they have to drive a couple of hours just to get to civilization. Next up for them a visit to the Mem, they've lost 7 in a row I think, what could possibly go wrong?

Don't buy the physical fatigue thing, QPR played and travelled away on Wed for a real 6 pointer. Surely this would have more effect than the fact that we'd played 3 games the previous week? Yes I think you're right about Notts County but it was Reading not Wycombe. I don't think Wycombe were even a League Club at that point. It's coming back to me now, the scorer was Scott Taylor of Reading. Should be more famous at AG as the player who got us promoted but never played for us, in the same way that Colin Daniel is celebrated as the player who relegated Rovers to Non League.

The thing about "that game" was that we still had a game or two that to get the win that guaranteed promotion, so although it was painful, it wasn't the end of the world. In the end we were promoted by a result elsewhere (Reading v ???) on a day we weren't even playing. So the only thing that Rovers actually got over us from that game was the Div 3 title, which I really wasn't bothered about at the time. Promotion was 99% of the prize. I mean who really cares how many 3rd tier titles you've won.... The Brighton game was far worse because it was actually the end and promotion was gone.
