Interesting debate on TV last weekend between key stakeholders, horses are obviously bred to be a top animal and are given a top lifestyle, but on a flipside nobody wants to see any of them pass away - stands to reason

One thing I didn't realise last year, the group that were behind all the demo's are a group that not only want to ban horse racing but they also believe any animal should not be kept as a pet - I'm not so sure if dog / cat owners had been made aware of this they would have got the support they got - anyone who uses that argument is a complete Froot Loop

Another fact highlighted, more people get killed on a daily basis in car accidents, but there are not calls to ban cars - not many horses drive cars and anyway that isn't the issue

Actual deaths on courses nowadays are much lower than in the past, and it was good to see those involved with the National listen to animal welfare groups about their recommendations to improve the safety, which ultimately was much better than in previous years - a step in the right direction

Behind football Horse racing is the second most watched sport in the UK, so there is clearly not that big an issue to the majority - we are talking just Steeplechase not all horse racing in general

Seen a lot of people moaning it isn’t the same race anymore. It’s not….no horse died. Amazed that people would rather horses died than not.

Not in the National itself.  IMO all Steeplechasing should be stopped.

Two horses have died during Ladies Day at the Grand National Festival.

Both horses fell at jumps and were treated on the track, at Aintree Race Course in Liverpool.

Giovinco fell at the final fence of the Mildmay Novices' Chase just before 2pm, and required treatment on the track.

He was treated by vets for an extended time, but could not be saved from the injuries sustained in the fall.

Giovinco was trained by two-time Grand National winner Lucinda Russell, and was seven years old.

A second horse, Pikar, was killed when he broke his neck after a fall, campaign group Animal Aid said.

Pikar, ridden by Stephen Mulqueen and trained at Dan Skelton's yard, fell at the second last hurdle in the last race of the day.

Where did you get the cloud seeding from? All ive read is it was a severe rainstorm, that effected most of the UAE and also Bahrain and Oman.

    Climate change.

Some reports say it was due to cloud seeding and others say otherwise.  Seems daft IMO to mess with nature.  See below:

Cloud seeding in Dubai: Everything you need to know

    Making it rain, on purpose

    By Emilie HillMarch 22, 2024

Cloud seeding is a buzz term popping up in conversation right now.

Why? On the off chance rain does fall in the area, many are quick to argue its origin and question if the rare downpour is down to luck, or a pre-planned process.

In fact, the UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP) announced only this week it is looking for ways to develop the capability to analyse a cloud’s seeding potential, with even more scrutiny. Without getting too technical, the move will transform the way cloud seeding is done, with the hope of increasing rain volume from clouds.

Welcome to the world of cloud seeding.

    What is cloud seeding?

Cloud seeding involves artificially generating rain by implanting clouds with particles. In the UAE, silver iodide is often used as the cloud-bursting catalyst (a yellow substance you might have handled in science class now and again).

Those above Dubai have been messing around with cloud seeding, the past 24 hours saw the results (literally) of the perfect storm, with one a half years rainfall falling in just 24 hours

Doesn't seem to be the best idea in the World.  I suppose the other question is .................. why ?

What’s interesting about the Twine discussion is that it’s not really split on “factions” - whether people are more pro LM or LM doubters, this thread has mainly the same conclusion - that he’s not really worth the likely fee and, other than Lez doing his normal stuff, pretty much everyone is on a scale of doubting the signing to straight out not wanting to do it.

There is no question LM knows more about Twine than any of us, and he may see him as a puzzle piece that is only fully effective with the rest of the puzzle, but it’d be an odd scenario when we’ve all seen him that the majority of this thread is totally wrong.

    Puzzling really

Think some of Huddersfield's bench could be in trouble if she reports them for having a go at her as she left the pitch, lots of shouting and fingers in her face. Not nice.

Maybe invitations for dinner in a Northern kind of way.
