Hey Nettie, how's your health? I am guessing your boys aren't helping you feel any better. :(

I'm still fighting - feeling quite good.  ?

One thing I can say about Saturday is that it was an entertaining game.  Shame that some of the entertainment came from our comedy defending!

  2. Sorry to hear about your Dad, and even more so that the current situation with your knee prevents you from visiting him.  Must be very hard, when you just want to be with him at a difficult time.

The "like" on your post was for Amber, he's a very handsome boy - many happy times ahead I'm sure.  Adopted my little rescue dog 7 years ago, she's just turned 15, she came to us with one eye, sadly lost her sight in that one during an illness a couple of weeks ago - she's gradually finding her way around the house, but walks are rather daunting.  She's got other health problems, but the vet has said that it's ok to continue with pallative care at the moment, as she's eating well and still asking for treats - final decision was left to me, of course we brought her home.  Totally agree with you that dogs are so good for our mental health - she has literally been my saviour at times.

Nowhere near comparable salaries, just like a student would struggle compared to a senior Manager.

You need to come up with something less desperate

If you're referring to rugby v football salaries - they are comparable with a lot of League 1 and 2 players.  Obviously the Championsip and Prem are in a totally different stratosphere when it comes to salaries.

My original post in no way related to anything Mr Barton may, or may not have said.  It was in response to a poster talking about players earning a lot more than the average Joe, I was pointing out that they usually have to have their mortgages on a much shorter timescale, due to the short life of their careers, so much larger monthly repayments.  It's all relative.

Just the latest in the load of nonsense that Barton spouts as facts when clearly not

Ah, so the professional rugby players who were talking about their mortgages recently were lying then?  How strange, they always come across as decent, straightforward chaps.

Or that £250k a year is a bit above what the average Joe earns and could get you something pretty nice here.... (Not in Portishead obviously, we are all seriously loaded down here ?)

Footballers (and rugby players) are usually offered mortgages on a much shorter loan period, due to the lifespan of their career, (10 years for somebody mid 20's) making the monthly payments a lot higher than those which the average Joe has to make.  Obviously this is applicable around the country, not just Bristol.

He seems truly awful. We were very lucky with Gregor who’s a very good journalist, and was able to look at things subjectively. Similar with Rich now.

Some of the stuff I see Frost post/tweet is insane.

I know what you mean - sometimes it's like he's on the payroll.  Bring back Peter Godsiff and Robin Perry!

They just said on the elf highlights that wife beater barton was upset that top clubs won’t loan out their youngsters . Wonder why that is  . He probably said whilst lighting a cigar

They don't loan many out before January, due to having to field a young side in the EFL Trophy - which they shouldn't be playing in anyway.

Do you get annoyed by his excuses. It frustrates I get that. We’ve had to deal with it , especially against warnocks teams However, it’s part of the game, shithousing your way to a away win or draw. There’s no right or wrong way to play football

Yes, sometimes his interviews are annoying, although I think he's toned down a bit to what he was at times last season.  Some teams win "ugly", although I thought Morecombe actually came for a game today, I didn't think their time wasting was any worse than other teams who've taken a lead, or want to hold on to a draw - I think there was more focus on it because of Shrewsbury's antics the week before.

Under Coughlan we were winning, but playing ugly football, although our position in the table was good, it became tedious to watch, week after week. I guess teams have to play the best style for the resources they have at their disposal, and you have to accept the rough with the smooth.

    Barton on Radio Bristol -

"Morecombe stinking the game out", "eating the clock", "we should have had a penalty".

Also - "We need to be better than 4 teams in the table". "Pushing on towards mid-table".

Changed his tune a bit with those last two statements. Tosser...

He actually said that Morecombe tried to play more football, not like Shrewsbury last week - stinking the game out.

There used to be flower beds and greyhound shyte behind the goals at Eastville

    Very nice they were too!

I always wondered if any those cars behind the goal at Chelsea got damaged during the pitch invasions of the 1970's, 1980's or was there some sort of code of honour?

He's still banging on about the Shrews...

Barton made clear his displeasure with the flow of the game against Shrewsbury, who were effective in breaking the game up and nullifying the atmosphere at the Mem. He expects a similar approach from Morecambe on Saturday.

"I'm looking forward to it," Barton added. "Hopefully we don't get another 5-4-1 but it looks like it based on watching them play. I was a bit ill this week and I don't know if that was (from) watching Shrewsbury play on Saturday or not. It gave me a bit of a tummy ache.

"We've got to remember we're in the entertainment business and if we allow teams who have no intention of playing football to come and spoil games of football, attendances are going to dwindle and, rightly so, people will vote with their wallet and they won't come and attend football matches.

"People have got choices to make with their money and they want to be entertained, they want to watch a really good game of football, end-to-end and teams competing and goals scored. You don't want to watch players rolling around on the floor."

The stupid thing is, they probably could have won the game if their players hadn't kept getting picked out by the sniper in the stands.  We were poor, expecially the defence, they should have just kept coming at us.  First 12 minutes of the match, the ball was out of play for 6 minutes.

I thought he wanted 6 signings?

I had to look up the 3 they’ve borrowed, the Burnley defender’s only league experience is with Barrow, the Fulham player has had loans at Colchester & Hibs & never seems to have established a settled place in the side at either, the Boro lad has a decent record but they announced yesterday he’s out injured for the next 5 weeks, which means he’s going to play mid October at the very earliest?

Had you heard of Elliot Anderson this time last year? (I hadn't)

Decent player for a lower league one side. It is a bit odd to sign someone who will miss the next several matches at least though.

It's a season long loan, so there will be plenty of time left for him to become involved.  I get that people think it's odd, but I will be interested to see how it pans out long term.

Seems very late in the week to be announcing this, or has it been these prices since they went on sale?

Yes, it's one of 3 Category C matches, which I assume means that lower crowds are anticipated.  Cambridge is another one, can't remember the 3rd.

To be fair I remember being 1 of only 168 at Forest in the JPT one year (I was working near by that week). Admittedly there had been 3500 City fans there the previous weekend for the league game though.

I think that the interest has always picked up when it gets to the quarter final stages, even in the original format.  Once there's a slight whiff of "Wembley" in the air, it becomes exciting!

You’re clearly a gert Ted as you’ve conveniently ignored the Power Boat racing in April

95 to Plymouth in midweek whereas City took just over a thousand to Wycombe in midweek, which is about the same distance. Broadly similar away followings….. as a percentage of home attendances.

I'd hope that nobody brings 95 to us in this competition - it's always been a bit tin pot, but totally ruined with the addition of the Under 23's (now Under 21's) from the Prem clubs.  Thin end of the wedge as the Premier League behemoth marches on.

100%. I know it's true that all clubs have their morons but when we have a manager with a rap sheet longer than your arm what do you expect. Sad to see some people trying to dismiss it as 'banter' too. The same people sang songs a few weeks back about Matt Taylor dying. Shocking.

That sort of behaviour is despicable, however, as somebody who attends matches, I've not noticed any increase/decrease since Barton arrived - the Matty Taylor song isn't exactly new.  The morons were there long before Barton, and no doubt will be there after he's gone - unfortunately.
