  1. It was. The ‘demented lollipop’ is just going to finish them off. The reality is radical Catholic and free-marketeer Reece-Mogg is the ‘King and Policy Maker’ in the Tory Party. We’ve got to go through the process of destroying all those around him, to get rid of that t***. Only then do we start again. What a waste of people’s lives though while we wait.
  2. No, I’m still sticking but I’ve reached the stage where I’m really pee’d off. It’s ****ing Millwall. Same level as us for ages, no parachute payments, smaller crowds, smaller stadium, no High Performance Centre, no shouting about their Academy…. and we get beat, at home, and yet again we’re getting beat by a faster, fitter, stronger team. Have a word with yourselves lads and sort it out, on and off the field ffs.
  3. Think Pearson is more pragmatic. He’s also said on more than one occasion that he doesn’t take account of the contracts situation in team selection. The sensible way is if a player adds value to the team with there being either no other options or the alternatives aren’t as likely to perform as well, an out of contract player at the end of this Season plays. That seems to the Pearson way at present.
  4. Bents is a competent Championship keeper in all respects aside from dealing with crosses into the box. I don’t believe, tactically, we ask the keeper to stay on his line. We have a specialist goalkeeping coach. Bents, physically, is tall and strong enough to deal with high balls. Cross-dealing techniques and decision-making should be capable of being drilled into a professional unless he has - for whatever reason - a mental block. If that mental block can’t be addressed after all these years, regrettably, we need to move on, which is likely to happen anyhow at the end of the Season. What do we do in the meantime though? Down to the goalkeeping coach to advise Pearson whether we a viable alternative? If so, may be approaching the time we roll the dice.
  5. More enjoyable than watching the rugby too!
  6. Walsh was pretty skilful. A hammer of a free kick and that Walsh shuffle. Gets my vote for being the most consistent skilful player. Nobody sussed how to deal with that shuffle. Baffling in a way as they all knew it was coming.
  7. Wouldn’t be too worried about that. They will be primarily considering the impact on the green belt of a small section of access road together with any traffic-related issues. Assume the applicant has already assessed the traffic issues and likely at this stag3 to have agreed them with the Council’s experts. Would be out of order to attempt to link their application to the Bristol one for the development of the overall site.
  8. Based on my 35 odd year experience of sitting in the planning ‘hot seat’ from the 20 minute dip in to the debate I’d be amazed if this wasn’t approved.
  9. My advice. Take care and/or a condom. A few decades back was driving in from Tamworth to collect my wife from her Central Brum bank. Had our young puppy in the back of the car, who en-route into town on the A38 decided to vomit the entire contents of her tea on the back seat. Pulled off into an area that made St Paul’s look like Knightsbridge. Got out of the car and within seconds this woman had got into the passenger seat. Had a ‘conversation’ which centred on me explaining I had stopped in the area as my dog had puked. Anyhow, she wouldn’t get out of the car, so eventually we agreed that I drive her into the City Centre. Bizarre in the extreme. My (ex) wife didn’t believe the story either!
  10. 9 (nine) corners. I’m that old, I can remember when I used to get excited when we awarded a corner.
  11. Rich, rest easy. Long-term poster from what I recall. The Bristol City ‘family’ upstairs has sadly gained some familiar faces/names in recent times.
  12. My only hope is that the Germans are normally crap before tournaments. .. and often go on to impress. Maybe that’s Southgate’s tactic. Just totally mystified though - when we know everything we need to know about playing Kane up top - why Southgate didn’t go for two up front with Toney playing. Plan ‘A’ currently isn’t working…but we know Southgate will use ‘A’, no matter what, to start the World Cup. Why not look at a Plan ‘B’? … and Saka as a wing back on the wrong side. Southgate got what he deserved with that tactical gem.
  13. Relegated and deserved to be. Let’s hope that Southgate’s superb motivational and tactical skills are brought to the fore before the World Cup. Not entirely Southgate's fault, the rest of the World have moved on rapidly over the last couple of years. We’ve stood still at best in England.
  14. Yep. It’s all gone stale. Players just going through the motions. Very LJ-like.
  15. One-touch, quick, accurate, incisive football. Only way to play against top level sides nowadays. Four-touch, poor-touch, slow, ponderous, sideways stuff ain’t going to win us any prizes Mr Southgate. i
  16. Wow. Those pictures bring it home. My generation - stood/sat near them at many a match, home and away. Rest easy.
  17. Sad news indeed. Good luck Bobby. Been through more in his young life than most of us old’uns do in our entire lifetime’s. Keep strong lad, you’ll beat it. Thoughts with his family too. Hope we can do something special for him up at St Andrew’s.
  18. A fraction before I joined the Bristol City ‘family’, which must have been around 67-68 as I don’t recall that stand on the far side. Brings back some memories though, aside from the players, the bus drivers walking around the pitch about 5 minutes before the end so they could rev up the ‘Specials’ and those classic light blue invalid carriages - though must have been just before they came truly in vogue. Thanks for posting - and, yes, the standard of the football (and pitch) looks appalling, nearly as bad as the late LJ years.
  19. Thank God he’s ours. Somewhat fearful he may be lured to either Bournemouth or Leicester over this international break. Would be absolutely gutted if this happened …. with consequences for the backroom staff too one suspects.
  20. You know what Nige is like. I’ve just toned it down a bit for him so he doesn’t upset Jay too much.
  21. Interesting comments from a positive Pearson. One thing I really, really hope we’ve learnt from tonight is not to play a short corner in the 95th minute of a match you’re losing by a single goal, having brought Martin on and both central defenders in the box, plus the man you’re passing short to being marked. That was the most ****** ridiculous, idiotic, brainless piece of football I’ve seen all Season. If you haven’t the balls to take responsibility to cross it into the box at moments like that, then give up the responsibility of taking corners.
  22. I get the criticism, but we’re still growing. We’re nearer the start than the end of our journey. From where we were, hardly being able to put a single 5 yard backward pass to dominating a game away to an ex-Premier League side is impressive. Even more so when the wage bill has been massively reduced and players brought in on ‘frees’. Hats off to the management team and coaches, I said it was time to start to deliver a few weeks back. I think they are now and, at last, there’s a shaft of light at the end of this very long tunnel.
  23. Well said Major. We played some really neat football and had Norwich on the back foot for most of the game. Not really possible to be happy in defeat, but certainly not in the doldrums. That was a decent effort.
  24. What the f….. we playing a short corner for there!!!!!!!!! Naive and stupid that.
