  1. Great shame the Lansdown’s want out. Can’t see much other than downsides. Massive gamble to take the football club alone, the risk not warranting the investment. The entire Bristol Sport package with the stadium, training complex and, critically, the housing land would be appealing to the financial market but only to asset strippers. Looks like we have missed our opportunity having had the absolute dream ticket. If only Steve had appointed a decent Director of Football at the start of his tenure. Instead, we ended up with the likes of Ashton and his merry men ruining us.
  2. Which you could understand as not many Clubs had several players locked up/ involved in unsavoury incidents at Cheltenham/fighting their team mates on the pitch in televised matches. However, the policy seemed somewhat over-enthusiastically implemented by our chief good-human tester who delivered loads of very good humans, but not many strong leaders or do or die winning players. A simple, rule-book with tough penalties that were strictly enforced would have sufficed imo.
  3. Take care, I spotted a shirt-wearing Sag in Teignmouth yesterday. Made it clear to him that Teignmouth and surrounding areas are red so he may have shifted on to Exmouth.
  4. Don’t need to go to Redruth for top quality fish and chips, go to Illogen really top notch takeaway (as recommended to me by someone who was from Redruth).
  5. Was down near Porthtowan a couple of weeks back. The place that time, tourists and parking wardens forgot and all the better for it.
  6. ..and, historically, our players have never quite grasped this marketing concept, often producing the most inept performance of the Season. I’m sure though tomorrow will break this tradition. COYRs.
  7. Breath of fresh air. Struth, for years we’ve been soft touch. Almost as if it was like ‘sorry, I need to tackle you - the boss told me I had to - don’t really want to do it but I’ll be as gentle as possible’ Win at all costs. Nice. Controlled aggression is the key, but to do that you need to have some aggression in the first place. The first can be taught, the second can’t be. No more Mr Nice Guys. While I may now not want my daughter to marry you, your purpose is to win football matches and leave every ounce of yourself on that pitch. Go.
  8. Enjoyed the entire tournament, as much as mens, if not more so. Thought the Lionesses were good value overall showing a range of qualities to achieve their victories. The Final was, perhaps, not as high quality as I had been expecting. The Germans were technically and tactically stronger on the day. However, the will-to-win, togetherness, bravery and sheer belligerence of the England team won the day. Bravo. Now if the men could instil some of those type-qualities in themselves, if Southgate would encourage them to play more positive, expansive, forward-thinking football we may have a chance in November. If we end up with the usual negative crab-like football, no chance.
  9. Midfield seems to have gone AWOL and we’re playing the same tactic of a high ball to the front which was ok with White but Russo neither has the strength or height to fend off the German defenders.
  10. Lost our shape and rhythm here. Need to get a bit of grip back on the game.
  11. Know a few Plymuff and find them great people, really passionate about and loyal to their Club. Numerically, the away support is amazing given travelling distances involved. The Sags support is way off in comparison. Never found them to have any particular issues with City - apart from on our match days with them. Maybe some of their yobbish element have issues then, but even that doesn’t extend to anything like the toxicity of our derby days with the Welsh and Sags.
  12. That’s interesting. I thought they did a press release saying they were doing more work on the line to facilitate increasing frequency of trains as the route had proved popular.
  13. …and from what I’ve heard the Oakhampton Line has been a real success.
  14. Absolutely. And, accept this is a generalisation - but a reasonable one, if you have or want a large family (for whatever reason) and don’t have the means to support your family do you vote Tory for welfare cuts or Socialist for increased benefits?
  15. Yep, consumerism depends on more consumers, socialism requires more (less well-off) voters, religions seek more followers, the (economically) poor require big family support, the ‘don’t care if I get her pregnant’ brigade do it for kicks … the forces for population growth totally overwhelm any pleadings from science-based logic groups. Defeatest I know, but we’re fast-approaching the point of no return.. Bird Flu, Covid-like viruses are going to be the new norm. The sound, scientifically-based ‘precautionary principle’ thrown to the wind for decades and we’re now reaping the ‘reward’. A few, including myself, that were once at the forefront of the ‘environmental cause’ are moving to the ‘beyond-caring’ position now. ..and for present-day ‘greens’, sit down , think about things and sort your targets out before becoming ‘activists’. COYRs
  16. IVF treatment is the very least of our worries. The greater concern are the political/religious breeding extremists and the reckless breeders who produce without any concern from anything other than their own self -interest. Having spent most of my life fighting the environmental cause, I’ve given up on humans and reached the same conclusion as one of the postings above, in that virtually every other species would be better off without us. An extreme view maybe, but you can bang your head against a brick wall only for so long. I just hope that there is as little suffering caused to individuals of the human race and other species in reaching the point of planet ‘reset’. Nature is by far the greater force over man, we are naive in the extreme to think otherwise. I also hope we make it to the Premier League before the reset. COYRs.
  17. Those modern-day ‘greens’ letting down car tyres of vehicles with emissions that are generally far less damaging than 70-80-90s camper vans that are currently in vogue with their mates make I laugh. Setting aside targeting the wrong vehicles, they remind me of stewards on the Titanic re-arranging the deckchairs. Well-meaning but as much use as chocolate teapots What they don’t get, or ideologically don’t want to see, is that the main contributor to Climate Change and, Biodiversity Loss is human population growth. That’s the iceberg. Mind you, the religious/political extremists of the ilk of Brexit-Moggy and Bunter are the worse culprits with their 6-8-10 children. The Green Party needs to re-invent and purify itself and get back to when it was a genuine Environmental Grouping, based on science and fact as it was in the early 80’s. COYRs.
  18. Don’t think it’s a fluke. The skill was amazing. As a keeper, you’d be getting ready for the next phase of the attack. Even by remote chance you were expecting a back heel, the most difficult ball to stop is between the legs. As near perfect a back- heel as I’ve ever seen.
  19. The speed of control and ball release, plus accuracy is pretty impressive. They work space well and play positive, expansive football. Let’s hope Mr Southgate is watching. and it’s 4.
  20. As a former keeper, there ain’t much you could do about that frankly.
  21. Agree with general sentiments, however, stock replenishment is a bit iffy. Was in two minds about one of those black t-shirts, but the bloody great badge put me off. We don’t do subtle do we - except on the eye-wateringly expensive track suit tops , which has the better-sized badge. Pre-season optimism, however, got the better of me. Went to the on-line shop to buy one and it seems that all sizes have sold out apart from a couple of baby-grow ones. Hey-ho.
  22. Good tune, but can’t help but hear ‘Banker’ spelt with a ‘W’ in that version personally! Could well have numerous versions. The Referee and could also do a nice one for the Sags Manager, the list is endless. All round a very catchy and flexible little ditty that.
  23. Yep, that was one of the main things I took from the piece. Wants to build a team, not collect individuals. That’s a significant change in the Club’s/ Ashton’s approach and about ******* time! Pearson was/is absolutely the right choice. Smart, with a clear plan and ruthless when needs to be. I like. Nearly all issues I had under LJ/MA have been or are being addressed. Great foundation being constructed on which we can move forward. We may surprise a few this Season and more optimistic about things than I have been for years.
