  1. Home shirt is … erm ….. different. Fresh and, well, a change. Nice video. Like the warm up shirt although the scribbles on the white seem odd - a ‘top hat’ what’s that about? Just a pity they don’t do an open neck. Useful summer gardening gear, cool with quick wash and dry. Not sure I could bear taking the scissors to the neck of a £35 shirt though as I’ve done with the old (cheaper) versions.
  2. Bellingham reminded me of Bakinson for 80 minutes. Last 10 minutes he stepped up though. Odd performance from the entire team. Looked dysfunctional and disinterested for most of the match, then half-decent for last 10-15 minutes. Mount’s a quality player. Quite how we totally isolated him to the level where he just ran around like a primary school kid I’ve no idea. Hopefully the Rice/Mount combination isn’t another Gerrard/Lampard conundrum.
  3. A mile, by current standards.
  4. Masterclass from Southgate nullifying any threat from Mason Mount by playing him in the ‘invisible man’ role. Think we need to at least sort that issue out at HT.
  5. Given the circumstances in Ukraine that was typical of unsporting Wales. England would have just rolled over.
  6. Can understand that view if there were no advantage gained by the defending team. In this instance, I would say the Ukraine player was in a position to make positive play, he was upright, had his balance and able to take control of the ball. It was a direct advantage to Wales that he was fouled, all be it unintentionally. Anywhere else on the pitch, that would have been given as a foul.
  7. Russian VAR. Clear penalty that was.
  8. In the 50+ years (gulp) following this Club the playing side has under-achieved, sometimes massively. Wouldn’t have wished though to have supported another Club, primary reason being the Ashton Gate experience, both in its past and current guise. The old stadium was brilliant, the East End, Park End, Grandstand Paddock, Dolman A. Few Clubs could you have done a complete circuit of the Ground over decades and stood, sat amongst the most passionate, colourful characters. Ever changing, sometimes moody, edgy but always lively and fun. Suppose getting older, you mellow so the new stadium fits my needs now and is something for us and Bristol to be proud of. The stadium’s been superb, but so has the entire area which contributes to the great match day experience. The pubs - sadly many gone - Ship and Castle, Wedlocks but now replaced by the pub crawl along the docks … the park, the cricket club, the side streets and The Cut all part of the rich tapestry of match day. Brilliant. If only we had delivered a team to match. Hopefully, Nige will deliver.
  9. Saint Jean de Luz, just on the French side of the border, was/is lovely when I visited on my ‘Grand Tour’ back in the 80’s. Mountain country on Spanish side equally so. Never forget a mountain river flowing into San Sebastián being fluorescent green through some sort of effluent discharge. Assume they’ve sorted that now.
  10. Bizarre isn’t it? Go on holiday to any European country and they build tunnels, new roads, super fast rail lines at a staggering rate. Think it was on Madeira a few years back where there was a brand new 1 mile long tunnel serving one friggin house and a small tourist car park! Don’t blame the planners, like the Government always do, it’s dithering politicians - something the Mayoral system was supposed to fix. The Long Ashton Park and Ride doesn’t even involve any planning or development and the inept, useless politicians still can’t sort it! Truly pathetic.
  11. The good news is that the powers that be can now concentrate all their brain and financial powers on the Long Ashton Park and Ride fiasco. You never know, it may be within a couple more decades, agreement might be reached to allow several hectares of empty car park positioned right next to the south west’s premier sport and entertainment venue to be made available to stadium users. Lummydaze, I despair of this Country sometimes.

    RIP Tinners

One of the familiar friendly faces over the decades home and away, that you’d acknowledge as being another of those who had been there, done that and got the t-shirt. Just seemed one of those people who you felt an instant bond with. Sad news indeed, but some delightful tributes.
  13. Strange feelings that day. Desperately wanted to win but happy to be there and enjoy the day. Gutted about the result but have been far worse after other defeats. Little did we know what a massive opportunity missed it was and the pain we had to endure and still endure after.
  14. Went for a piss when Rangers took their 4th penalty. Blame me. Gutted, but gave it a good go and finished the stronger. What with The Gas, now this …. beginning to wonder if the Football God really exists.
  15. Be interesting what charge is brought. As others have said that could have killed him, it was premeditated and on the blind side of the victim with no provocation and totally unexpected. Shameful.
  16. Edwards looks a talent and appears super-quick. Sort of player that can light up a match. Bit disappointing though that so close, yet so far. Coventry, in fairness, looked the better team.
  17. …and supporters too. A guy who worked for me did a big charity walk in memory of Adam.
  18. Think what’s telling is that after 5 years I, and many others, haven’t a clue as to what his ‘best’ - or least worse - position is in the team. The fact that Manager’s include him in teams is more an indictment of the (lack) of quality in our unbalanced squad tbh.
  19. Anyhows, sure this is all a load of tosh generated by his (very good) agent in order to increase a salary offer from elsewhere. As forecast months ago, CoD would go off with long term injury and wouldn’t play again this (last) season ….. correct. In the same forecast, said he would be off to Ipswich. Still waiting for confirmation. One of Ashton’s ‘good humans’, which I suspect he is. I think we found that a team made up of ‘good humans’ is as much use as a chocolate teapot. Looking forward to watching a team of ‘nasty winners’ taking on and beating the Leeds, Millwall’s of this world next season myself.
  20. Just NO City. Can’t believe we’ve given it a second thought. Signing the lad was a mistake, offering a new contract was plain stupid. Extending the relationship further is off-the-scale ridiculous. Pearson’s ‘credits in the bank’ would suffer serious harm with me if CoD is here next Season. Enough is enough.
  21. Grandfather … City Dad …. Bristol Rugby - he tried soooo hard to get me into Rugby Mum …. City (armchair supporter) Local Team(s) …. Torquay/Exeter, previous Tamworth ( Wembley Vase Final was up there as one of the best, think 20,000 travelled from a town of 40,000) Sister … City (doesn’t even meet armchair status though) Nephew and Nephew’s son (by indoctrination and who could fail to be when their first experience was that Millwall match sat in A Block - gulp)… City additions… Ex wife … City - but came from a family of staunch Gasheads, so should’ve known it was I’ll-fated. Partner … City (has managed just one game in 25+ years!) Partner’s Daughter … abject failure Ex ‘Son in Law’ - was an (active) Man U but converted to City (the Tomlin Fulham away clinched it), he may have reverted back to glory-hunter status. ‘Grandchild’ … under review, can I heap more misery and failure on another generation?
  22. Commented that Tommy Backwell looked decent in the last Under 23s match. Glad he’s been given a contract. Brilliant we’ve gone for height and, hopefully power, in this batch.
