  1. Yep, fear that was it. Worked a short time with Clive, who was one of the victims.
  2. Birmingham took the absolute piss sometime in the late 60's arrived early and stayed in the centre pen. Somewhat bizarrely, I recall Huddersfield at a lesser scale doing the same (aided, or not, by some of your lot). From my recollection that was about it. Maybe Cardiff hung around once in that centre pen as well. Early 70's pre-segregation groups of away fans that managed to stay either were in the area above the pathway at the rear of the stand or in the corner and rarely strayed. Could write a book on events during that period. Come to think of it..... what happened to that? See higher up in the thread mention of 'Piggy' et al. Remember the Police Superintendent on the Park End 'divide' who was an absolute psycho. Wonder what happened to all the lads on that terrace? Remember we lost a couple at the time in a horrendous car crash. The worst violence by far though was the infamous Millwall visit in the early 80's. That was just mayhem.
  3. Yep, checking the records it was 72/73 and it appears we lost on the pitch but very much the victors off it. I thought it was earlier than that but that was the back-to-back Millwall home/Swindon away fixtures. Remember Millwall joining in at AG when we were singing 'If you're all going to Swindon'. Unbelievably though they did. So it was City on the Town End, small group of very game Millwall in the corner and Swindon dispersed around their Grandstand. Two special trains that day. We were on the first and broke down the gates to their open end. Remember reading their evening paper on the way back headlining rioting Bristol City fans in the town centre which, I assume were those from the second train. Mad days.
  4. Gutted. Left some energy out on the pitch there. Love Lee but struggle with the concept of Joe being played at left back and taking Tammy off was strange. If only it was Tammy rather than Bobby with that gilt edged chance! Anyhows, onwards and upwards hopefully.
  5. Ummm... Dream on. Late 60's, early 70's might have been before your time but I was in the middle of the Tote with hundreds of City. Think I recall a 5-0 evening a Glos. Cup Match where the entire centre of the Tote End celebrated by invading the tulip beds behind the goal. Can't recall the year but segregation was introduced in the 70's and that year only a few City, including me, went in the Tote just before kick off. To be fair we were off it pretty sharpish. With Man U, you were tolerated in the East End - just not the centre blocks :-)
  6. Boat. What boat? I knew you had ground water-issues at the cabbage patch but has it got that bad? I guess I seriously underestimated Wally. I thought your tent was the trigger for his interest in your Club and was going to inspire him to create an Arabian theme for your stadium revamp. Clearly, he's now scrapped that plan and picked up on you as 'Pirates' and is going to develop that idea. Pirate ship stands! Genius. Ps has Higgs issued a statement saying they'll be 'watertight' yet?
  7. That is a garden shed to the left of the container? Got to give it to The Gas, a worthy effort to raise the standard of their facilities.
  8. Come on. Own up. Who paid to put that one on the list?
  9. That score is worth 4 points to us with our goal difference - much needed. The Rotherham and Huddersfield games are by no means 'givens'. Onwards and upwards - keep the focus lads.
  10. Just been down to Sainsbury's Newton Abbot, got fantastic deals on plastic chairs but in blue or white only.
  11. The 137 pages on The Slags pales into insignificance measured against the 300 pages devoted to our new stadium. Just mention this as it shows your relative importance to us. How's your new stadium getting on by the way? You know, the shiny new one you were singing about at your last visit to The Gate. You have to admit though your Club has been a bundle of laughs over the last few years. Do you think the ownership transfer from Piggs to your multi billionaire Wally could be yet another chapter in your hilarious journey?
  12. Looking forward to the first camel race at UWE.
  13. I find it all pretty bizarre. The Sags appear to be basing their appeal on theft the fact that Sainsbury's weren't very nice to them. That may be so, but hardly something that stands up in a court of law. I suspect the appeal judges recessed to the pub and had a good laugh.
  14. The problem being on the pitch for a Club representing a city the size of Bristol our history is more than a little embarrassing, off the pitch less so. I take some form of perverse pride from the fact that we've never been embarrassed off the pitch during my younger days. As strange and sad as it may sound to some, I know hundreds of others share my view from a great variety of walks of life. Time moves on though and I'm taking as much pride from our new stadium as I did in the days stood on the East and Park Ends, the Enclosure and Dolman defending our patch.
  15. Where they were startled to find yet another group of 'Park End' City throwing missiles at them, as they were parading in front of their own fans doing the 'aren't we hard' act.
  16. That's the one. My 12 year old nephew's first game in Dolman Block A, with wooden seats (with metal fixings) flying over our heads, a guy sat next to us with his leather jacket shredded down the back from top to bottom having gone in the Millwall end (FFS), brawling fans at the top of the stairs. Never seen anything like it, before or after, anywhere in or outside a ground or any form of public gathering. The entire Park from outside the ground to the Cumberland Basin, the surrounding subways, hills and roads rammed full of rioting mobs. The police had totally lost control. It wasn't hundreds but thousands at it that day. Surprisingly, didn't put him off though as now a season ticket holder with his son. Not glorifying it, in fact remember reflecting on the day and thinking Jesz someone could have died (and nearly did) just for a football match.
  17. Nothing will ever, ever compare to Millwall in the early 80's. Absolute mayhem in the Park, the ground and most of Bristol that day. My recollection is that pre-segregation Birmingham did a 'proper job' on the East End as did to a lesser degree, I think, Huddersfield. Post-segregation Spurs had a go but can't remember that many others - mind you most of us had migrated to the Park End by then.
  18. SAG, I'm not sure how you define 'took' but standing in the middle of the Tote End twice surrounded by 1,000 plus fellow City, unmoved for the entire match must come close surely, even for deluded blues. That's smack bang in the middle, not at the back, the side or the front by the way.
