  1. Finally, the Atlas is a busy ivy-clad pub with a long simple bar; panelling and dark wall benches, mix of old tables and chairs on bare boards, brick fireplaces, four well kept ales, lots of wines by the glass and decent coffee, good if pricey Italian-influenced food; friendly service; background music; children (till 7pm) and dogs welcome, side terrace with picnic-sets, open all day and busy with Chelsea supporters on match days. Atlas, 16 Seagrave Road, London, SW6 1RXwww.theatlaspub.co.uk

…. I love this pub, but I always spend an absolute fortune whenever I go there :(

Once, Mrs R&W and I were in there enjoying a meal when a very drunk woman got stuck in the toilet (she had collapsed inside the cubicle) and the landlady asked me to help to get her out - which I did - and received a couple of free drinks as a ‘thank you’!
That was a ‘one-off’ by the way. We’ve been in there lots of times - it’s more of a diners pub than a hard-drinking boozer so you are very unlikely to find drunk people there - besides, it’s too expensive to drink a lot in there!!

Enjoy your trip those of you who are going to the game - and bring back the 3 points!!!!

  2. I must be very liberal because I can’t think of anyone I would spend a load of energy and anger, risking a heart attack shouting abuse at.
if pushed hard I would ‘tsk’ or perhaps a little ‘boo’ at Simon Jordon following his ‘cheating’ comments, and possibly Copout for his, well, cop out.
Even Pulis doesn’t make my blood boil.
Mourinho maybe, for branding us ‘lucky’ after spanking ManUre in 2017?

No. I’m chilled. Ashton was given too much power and influence and I dislike his legacy, but I’m not prepared to bust an artery hating him.

We lack ‘ strong characters and leaders at the club’ - absolutely. And the reason for that is those are not qualities that MA and LJ wanted.

Ultimately, they both knew that characters of that nature would, in the end, expose them, and that was not a risk they were prepared to take.

This might be true of MA but I don’t believe it at all re: LJ.
LJ had his influential players sold from under him and that’s contributed to why we lost direction and stagnated.
if he hated influential players that much he wouldn’t have made them team captains just before getting rid of them (Pack, Brownhill)

  4. I had an embarrassing encounter with Honor back in the late 1980s.

Mrs R&W and I arrived home one evening after a night on the p!55 to find our 17-year-old female lodger sat with a young chap in our lounge. I didn't really look at him properly and my mind was elsewhere (unwrapping a dirty doner probably) when he was introduced, so I misheard, but I clocked the name 'Honor'.
I asked him 'Oh, do you know Chris Honor then?' after which there was an awkward silence before he replied 'Er - I AM Chris Honor..'!

    Awkward!!!

I didn't see him in our house again.

Not being pedantic or getting in the middle of whatever punch up your having with anyone. BUT the thread was about Lee Johnson’s man management.

For the record Gary is a top bloke still got a picture of him and my old man 11years ago before he passed away.

Lee I’m sure is a lovely guy. But some of the questions about his man management stem from comments from his former players.

    No ‘punch up’

    ‘Wind up’ maybe!!

Please see my response to BS4 On Tour above.

Apologies, I know I was being a bit flippant - but yours is a very interesting debate, Gary and Lee Johnson have given us a bit of a hope when we’ve been in the championship, tempered with lots of despair. Gary obviously very nearly got us up to the premier league - just one game away, what a season that was - it was also a strange season, we seemed to win 1-0 lots of times before getting the occasional thrashing - and our top scorer was in single figures, is that correct?

And what is it with LJ and the league cup??! I noticed earlier that Sunderland are in the quarter finals vs Arsenal?

No problem with your response mate and if I’m honest I’m playing a bit of a ‘fishing’ game with the LJ-haters hoping for a bite.
However, my serious response to the original post about LJs (alleged lack of) man-management skills was to point out that IMHO he couldn’t have been THAT bad when he gave us the longest continuous championship status since Alan Dicks and a brilliant cup run.
My point was that if he really was THAT bad the players wouldn’t have given that to him.

First time in my life I have literally been speechless. In the pub after i was  frozen in place for about 20 mins just trying to process it all!

    What a game that was

    Ha!
I was far from speechless - I talked through the entire game - every kick - every decision - constantly for the rest of the night like a recording on loop!!!

  8. That was my most enjoyable night ever since I started following City in the 1970s.

Mrs R&W came out of there with a sore throat and we could hardly speak but deliriously happy.

On the p!55 afterwards in celebration and didn't realise how late it was until we got kicked out of the VShed at 4am!!!

... a ‘wise one’ would know the ‘premiership’ is in Scotland and no such entity has existed in England for over 13 years ...

Ah - good one - avoiding the question on a technicality - better than pointing out that some people don't like LJ at Sunderland - which was nothing to do with the question.

I think there must be some aspiring politicians on here by the lengths some people will go to dodging questions and publicly acknowledging the simple truth that NOBODY has taken us closer to the English Premier League since Alan Dicks than the Johnsons.

Are you forgetting the boring three to four years of sideways and backwards football he dished up and the fifty odd crap players he brought in under the sugar daddy when it would have been easier to give steve cotterell the three players he needed to strengthen the struggling championship squad at that time we are still bearing the fruits of that fifty odd dross now and Nige is struggling to get rid of  them you must have missed the Best football played in recent years in league one which the gobster couldn't wait to rip apart .

    So that’s nobody then….

Closer but achieved jack shit neither of them apart from being able to talk the talk and flannel the fans .?? oh I forgot the cup match

So please tell me who HAS achieved anything at Championship level then o wise one - I must be stupid because I can’t remember anyone achieving anything at this level since AD.
    No major silverware
    No Premiership promotion

    …… no change there then!!!!

Yes agree both bully boys even with their size.

.. and both took us closer to achieving top flight football again than any other manager since the great Alan Dicks

Perhaps SL should name a stand 'The Johnson Stand' in recognition of the services that family have given the club? ?

  13. LJ gave us the longest continuous period of championship football since Alan Dicks and we spent the latter of that period within a shot of the playoffs.
We also enjoyed a fantastic cup run - that win vs Man U is a night I will never forget - one of my best ever nights at Ashton Gate.
LJ can’t have been that bad a man-manager.
Thanks for the memories Lee and good luck.

Now is Nigel’s turn. Let’s hope we can push on from our solid Championship foundation that he inherited.

    Fact Check - untrue

Fact - was loaned to Swansea under Holden ???

When LJ says (paraphrased because I can’t recall the exact quote) at the end of KP’s loan - “give me a pre-season with Kasey and I’ll get him playing” I kinda take that to think that the manager rates him and wanted to sign him.

Fair enough - I was going from (poor) memory.
in that case let’s hope LJ still wants him

Said a few times that he wanted all 3 Chelsea players to sign permanently and ‘would love’ to have Palmer with a proper pre season with him, or words to that effect

I heard (admittedly through a forum like this) that KP was an example of Ashton buying players then dumping them on LJ.
That could be rubbish and you could be correct, but KP was dropped pretty soon after Afobe got injured and barely played again under LJ - in fact he was loaned to Swansea under LJs tenure, so LJ obviously didn’t rate him much.

Maybe a loan to Sunderland in Jan to be reunited with LJ.

Or to MAITFC to be reunited with The Ego.

LJ didn’t even want him here, so I’d be surprised if he ended up with him at Sunderland.
