  1. Really? I had no idea about threatening to hit LJ - apart from on these chat rooms where apparently Flint was another one who wanted a pop at LJ. In fact, apparently the whole squad wanted to attack LJ - and even the Tea Lady was ready to pour boiling tea over him after the squad had sparked him out!!!!!!! I’ve never seen anything official about Tomlin though……
  2. This gave me nightmares when I was a little kid..... https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj_zfmq66HzAhUKTsAKHRsdDqYQwqsBegQIDRAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DQSHd2rnkRTE&usg=AOvVaw2m56fvwQk3dnr2j2kYdJ-x
  3. Perhaps you're right - maybe the whole experienced made me remember it like it was raining!!
  4. I was there at that game. Horrible weather. Horrible ground. Horrible football. Horrible result - and not even any pubs open - and then a horrible miserable drive home. Altogether a rather horrible experience. My first, last an only trip to Trumpton.
  5. I was always amused by the ‘horses arse’ chant - usually aimed at one of our own during the Terry Cooper and Joe Jordan days. The ‘Adam’s Family’ song always makes me giggle too - the wife tries to sing it and gets all the relations wrong, like ‘your brother is your sister, your uncle is your auntie..’ actually more amusing than the intended lyrics !!!!
  6. I get you - so a save isn’t classed as a ‘deliberate attempt to play the ball’ then - even though it is??!!! A block by a defender however would be?? again, not arguing- just trying to understand. EDIT - ignore. Just read Cityexile’s post - and re-read yours properly!!
  7. Not arguing - plenty of people have said he was offside including the pundits on Quest last night, but didn’t their keeper play him back on from the original save? I thought that if the ball came off an opposition player then you were no longer offside? Van Nistelrooy made a rather successful career from that type of goal poaching. Have the rules changed or do I simply not understand them?
  8. I don't see why beer in plastic bottles can't be taken to your seat - the same as coke, lemonade or any other drink, but if you're one of those people who needs a p!55 immediately after a beer then don't do it. You should know your own body. It's really annoying when people are constantly pushing past whilst one is trying to watch a game. I'm one of the 'lucky' ones who can drink about 4 pints before needing the toilet, so it's easy for me to say I suppose.
  9. I think it's fine if we're playing at home - we hardly ever score!!!
  10. He certainly was for us - but he played ok for Bolton when they were in the Prem, so he must have had SOMETHING about him. I remember being puzzled about how crap he was at the time. Didn't he have a serious injury though - maybe that hit his confidence such that he could never be the player he was?
  11. Great away win! Didnt see the game but the stats suggest we mugged them! happy days!!
  12. I too watch Sunderland's results with interest. I supported LJ for most of his time at AG. I felt that there was a certain section of our fan base who had it in for him from day 1 and WANTED him to fail. Ultimately the football 'stagnated' and he ran out of ideas so it was right that he went - and I'm fully behind Pearson now, but I do think LJ took more than his fair share of criticism from some people. I always wondered how LJ would do if he didn't have Ashton pulling his strings with one foot on LJ's head. His current management of Sunderland gives us that picture. I'm curious to see if Sunderland will go on 'streaks' like we did. I wish LJ all the very best. I truly believe that he loves our club, having both played and managed here and I really hope he gets a decent reception when/if he returns to the away dugout.
  13. I’m amazed that anyone would seriously want NP gone at this stage of the season. This thread has to be a wind-up surely?
  14. Surprised Hughton couldn’t do better at Forest. Not surprised he was sacked though with them at the bottom of the league and 6 defeats in 7 games - and Forest don’t stick with their managers for long. I know LJ had more defeats with us during ‘that’ streak of his, but we weren’t in the relegation zone at that time whereas Forest are.
  15. The Preston North End stadium in Deepdale is the oldest continuously running football club in the world. That’s strange. I thought that the oldest football club in the world was Notts County and the oldest football ground still in use as a football ground today is Bramall Lane (Sheffield United’s ground)???
  16. It'll be interesting how this works - He will have to come back home after 3 months due to the post-Brexit 90 day rule......
  17. I loved JET and the best of luck to him. Can’t say I’d bother watching an Aberdeen game just to see him, but hey ho - loved the guy and wish him well.
  18. That's strange - I thought that STFC had actually BOUGHT the County Ground. Obviously not....
  19. BBC - Wiltshire - History - The NHS: Born in Swindon Take it up with these guys if you disagree..........
  20. ... and I'm not FROM Swindon - I've just lived here for 24 years!! I'm from Dundry actually - then Bishopsworth when I got married - then Swindon for work.
  21. see my reply to Red Robbo above. The blueprint came from Swindon and is recognised by historians
  22. Surely you don’t hate me - I’m a City fan

  24. I used to enjoy a drink or two with Andy Partridge before Covid, up at our local Spanish Tapas bar here in Old town - he was a regular in there - as I was too! Other musical artists from Swindon include Gilbert O'Sullivan and Justin Hayward (Moody Blues). I think I read somewhere that Supertramp also have a Swindon connection, but I may be wrong.... - Nick Hewer (Countdown) is from here. - The Lord Chancellor is our local MP (not proud of that one!) - The Supermarine Spitfire was built here - The NHS - Swindon was the birthplace of that rather critical service - Mondex - sadly way ahead of it's time - but today we pay for almost everything electronically. - The UK Space Agency HQ is here Yes, but apart from all that what did the Romans ever do for us...............? ?
  25. It was indeed a fantastic achievement - and the FA had to rush through some emergency rules to prevent you lot from playing in Europe to allow Arsenal to play instead. The Italians thought that was unfair and launched the Anglo-Italian cup as a result - which the Italians took seriously but the English didn’t. If I remember correctly, in one game Swindon were beating Napoli 3-0 and the game had to be abandoned because the Italians rioted and destroyed their own stadium…?!!!
