    Hi

Am I correct in my sums ? League only

    Played = 19

    Won = 6

    Drew = 5

    Lost = 8

    Points per game = 1.21

    Over a 46 game seasons that’s 55 points

    Win percentage = 31.58%

Doesn’t make particularly good reading as he’s now played most clubs at least once so it’s a good sample size.

    Interesting.
I would caveat this with the fact that LM has not yet faced all of the teams.
There are 7 teams he’s yet to face as he’s had 2 games against 4 opponents (Southampton, Watford, Middlesbrough & QPR).

it’s quite interesting to split these games up against Top 7, Bottom 7 and Middle 9.

    Against the bottom 7 he’s
    Played 6, Won 0, Drawn 3, Lost 3. Points 3  PPG 0.5

    Against the top 7 he’s
    Played 5, Won 2, Lost 3. Points 6. PPG 1.2

    Against the middle 9 he’s
    Played 8, Won 4, Drawn 2, Lost 2. Points 14.  PPG 1.75

Its very clear where our problems lie.
Against the top 7 and middle 9 we’d be on course for approx 71 points a season (a playoff contender perhaps).
Against the bottom 7 we’d be on course for 23 points in a season = relegation before Christmas!!

Our remains fixtures are 4 vs the top 7, 3 vs the bottom 7 and 5 vs the middle 9.

If we keep up the same PPG (I know, unscientific but hey ho), we’d finish on around 59 points.
Funnily enough, when Nige left, we had 18 points from 14 games which would end us up on 59 points.

So basically, at the moment there is no difference in the extrapolated final position/points.

But as I say, it’s very clear where our problems lie.

  2. Bernard yellow was correct.
    Bernard second yellow was correct.
    Should have been a penalty.
He should have allowed the corner as it was he himself who wasted precious seconds on the previous corner by stopping play and speaking to the players.
I think he did ok with everything else and didn’t get fooled by players falling too easily. Allowed the physical stuff too (we were just too weak).
I thought he did ok. Aside from the penalty and the final (non) corner

Brimsons full of it, he wrote once Watford turned city over at the hole in the wall, in the late 90s, laughable, you know what he does now? Chip shop reviews on youtube, I kid you not,

In fairness, my recollection of that incident was that Watford did actually give it a bloody good go.
I think it went on for quite a while, no old bill arrived for a long time, and there were bodies strewn everywhere.
City certainly came out on top, but Watford were ‘game’ as they say, on that day.

On a side note, Charlton are one of those movable trips. Saw us lose 2-1 at Palace when they were there, 2-1 at WHU when they were there and 2-0 at the Valley.

Yep. I would guess that you and I are amongst a very small number of City fans who have seen us play Charlton at 4 different grounds. Ashton Gate, Selhurst Park, Upton Park & The Valley.
I can’t remember there being very many of us at Selhurst and probably only 1,000 or so at Upton Park, so there won’t be many fans who can say they were at all 4 grounds.
I always fancied playing Charlton in the playoff final as it would then be 5 different grounds, which I’m sure would be a very unique phenomenon.

So maybe up to one every two years if we can find one from 2022 as well.

    Woo-hoo. Now we’re cooking 🤣

Didn't Joe Williams have a bit of a dead ball reputation, TBF I thought the corners were better Saturday.
I'd ban Nahki and give TGH, Twine or even Pring ahead of Wells.

If Twine is on the pitch and either TGH or anyone else goes anywhere near a free kick, I’m going to be immediately leaving the ground in absolute and painful disgust, and not returning until I receive a personal apology from the King.

Keep up - we haven’t had any sessions on the training ground because of the relentless and not at all out of the ordinary schedule.

(FWIW I’d call corners something from the training ground and we have scored a few of those. Conversion rates from free kicks/set pieces you’d hope should also improve with Twine)

Come on now Silvio - you can’t use everything as a stick to beat Manning 🤣

To the main point, our lack of goals from free kicks is something I’ve mentioned many times going back many seasons.
This isn’t just a recent (Manning) phenomenon. Pretty sure our last one was Tomlin at Fulham!!

But yes, Twine should definitely give us hope in this area.

Last week saying he would rewatch the game after “having about 6 pints” was so ******* cringe.

He’s always been an ‘orrible git.
The surprising this is how many people have been duped by him over the last few years.
The mask is finally slipping and his true self is shining through. Horrible arrogant bloke

When he moved to the left in the last fifteen minutes of the first half he was reasonably effective with a couple of good runs.

On the right for the first thirty minutes he was abysmal. His positioning was way off and McCrorie gave him a deserved bollocking for it mid half. He was pulling way too narrow which made sense if it was making space for Ross wide but it wasn’t - possibly it was tactical but it wasn’t working. Start of the second half he was ineffective again.

There was indeed a gesture from McCrorie to Mehmeti (I wouldn’t call it anywhere near a bollocking). I’ve just watched the game back again.
It happens on the 20th minute and is about 1:30 prior to McCrorie having that shot that hit the side netting.

Mehmeti was playing very narrow. This happened for the whole period he was on the right. I’m quite surprised that you say “possibly it was tactical”. It was very clearly tactical. He spent more time almost next to Wells than he was near the touchline. We very nearly had a couple of openings during the 5 mins leading up to McCories shot.
Had Williams had his correct boots on yesterday we’d have had an opportunity for RM in loads of space on about 16 minutes and another when AM nearly got in behind on about 18 mins.
There was also the Bell cross on about 15 mins where Mehmeti was on the penalty spot. And also on that McCrorie shot, Mehmeti had just made a run to the penalty spot and this was why RM had the time on the edge of the box to make that shot.

It was very clearly tactical that AM was to play about 20 yards infield in the hope that this would allow RM space to drive forward - something which is clearly his strength.

I can’t put any single ounce of blame on AM for playing narrow. The gesture from RM on 20 mins was more one of frustration as he wasn’t getting the space to maraud. Anis was 20 yards inside him the whole time. It was clearly a plan.

Many people wouldn’t have noticed on about 13 minutes, Chair had rolled his man and was about to unleash a shot from the centre of the edge of the box and Anis had managed to get back and make what was probably a goal saving tackle. This was another advantage of his playing narrower, ie he was able to offer an extra defensive support in central areas.

There were a lot of below par performances (well all of them) but Anis was probably the best player of ours (yes, a low bar, but even so).

I was surprised he was subbed off actually and we were noticeably a lot worse after he went off.

Personally thought Cornick should have been subbed circa 70 mins. Tanner to RB and Sykes Rwb. I like Cornick but he is not a Rwb and had a poor hour or so.

Seen a few mentions of back 3 yesterday and WBs. Wasn’t how I saw it, maybe I missed it. Just bog standard back 4 all game for me. Advancing the FB on the side we had possession on.

Yep. Same Dave. I didn’t see wing backs at all.
    Back 4 all game.
Although I do think the shape did sometimes look a little confusing as Roberts seems to have a tendency to come inside into midfield quite a lot, so he was often in a strange position for what was essentially a full back role.

  11. They were supposed to be doing a scene from Snow White, but only Sneezy showed up.

Sleepy and Dopey were playing for the City. Grumpy was in the Dolman. Doc was seeing to Sam Bell and Happy was in the away end.
Bashful was up in the boardroom reflecting on his embarrassing choice of words about having a top end squad

Mehmeti did zero today which pretty much sums up his time at the club.  We will never progress with players of his calibre.

We’ll have to disagree on this one big guy. I thought he was the only player today who looked like he was giving qpr anything to worry about.
    If everyone scores a 4 today, he’d at least get a 5.

    I agree.

    +++++

The reason why Sykes came on was because McCrorie came off and there is a thought that Sykes a a right sided attacking player can do what he does from his conventional position from RB.  I has rarely worked previously.  McCrorie is still finding his way back to getting 90 mins.

Your choice is to leave him on and make a different change and hope he gets through 90.

I agree that I would have also kept Mehmeti on. He was the only one looking remotely like given them something to think about.
If he wanted to get Medube on, he’s more comfortable on the right, so could have been worth having both Mehmeti and Medube on each flank - that might have been something slightly different.

Manning really lost the plot today in my opinion . If Twine wasn’t fit then Leave him at home watching telly ffs !  Manning brought Cornick on for Bell when it should have been Sykes or Mdube! After about 5 mins on the left wing he then swapped him and Annis around underlining the fact that a genuine right winger should have come on on the first place . With the latter subs coming on , Cornick should have been brought back off but Manning was too scared to do it !

To be fair I’ve got no problem with the Cornick sub.
It was early in the game. Sykes and Twine wouldn’t have been fit enough for that long. And Medube; as we saw, was not ready.
No problem at all with the Cornick sub. And no problem him switching flanks either - Cornick is generally better from the right than the left so it was perhaps correct to bring Anis to the left.

Bell’s injury did scupper our overall game but yes, I wasn’t sure about all the other subs in the 2nd half, and as said, if Twine was on the bench he should’ve been fit enough to do 20 minutes in the exact situation for which we signed him

Huge difference between saying a player was poor today, and completely writing a player off.

Especially ironic given that this thread was originally made because fans wanted to comment on how incredibly promising Mebude looked vs Southampton. People overreacted to his performance then, and have U-turned to overreact to his performance today.

Yep. That’s the all or nothing society we have nowadays.
Basically, the kid had a poor game. No getting away from that.
But let’s see what he does for the rest of his loan and decide whether we want him or not.
    Bad game. Move on.

If only he had been on to take the free kick that Nahki “skied”.

Should have subbed him on for the free kick and then taken him off again.
I mean, if he wasn’t fit enough for 10 minutes at the end when the game is crying out for his type; then we might as well have just used him as a Special Teams sub when we got that free kick.

I wonder how much we thought Sykes had in the tank.

He was the fifth sub used which suggests not much.

I am baffled by Twine being a sub & not coming on, absolutely no sense in him being a sub if he wasn’t fit to do so.

Cornick has done well of late & although he wouldn’t have been my choice to come on, I understand why we did.

Williams had to come off, he’d already been involved in an off the ball incident that might have been a red if seen (or we had VAR) & TGH was the obvious replacement, today not for the first time as a sub, he was poor though.

Otherwise baffling, Mebude (dire is absolutely the word) in front of both Sykes or Twine, WTF?

    A bad day all round.

    Yep.
No one can convince me or give any reasonable rationale as to why Twine didn’t come on.
If he’s on the bench he must be fit enough for at least 15-20 mins.
And he was signed for this exact situation - needing something different around the box versus a team happy to sit in.
We signed him for these exact moments.
    Baffled I am.

    As for Gardner-Hickman.
I’ve kept my powder dry on him so far but I’ve not as yet been overly impressed with him. Yes, a few decent moments here and there but he’s done nothing to convince me yet.
And then today, he enters the fray with us needing to sharpen up, quicken the passes, start to impose ourselves etc and he’s the slowest effing passer out there, taking 3 or 4 touches every time he has the ball and getting easily dispossessed about 6 times.
There was one moment he had an acre in midfield, received a pass, took 3 touches to turn, had a chance at a quick ball out to McCrorie in loads of space but proceeded to pass it at about 0.5 miles per hour and it eventually reached a now fully marked McCrorie the following week!
Effing quicken it up man!! So damn slow at everything.
I still need a lot of convincing on this kid. Sorry.
