I didn’t watch the match ( I was washing my hair) but cold hard stats don’t point to a hammering.
Just to add that , curiously , after more than fifty years loving this club.I don’t really care anymore. I am thoroughly peed off with the club . I have dropped Robin’s TV . Rarely listen to the interviews or watch the highlights. They have killed the little enjoyment that I got from supporting this team.

Pretty fed up too. First game in 1971, it's just a shambles of a club. I saw the game and we're just so predictable and easy to play against.

I think we got what we deserved

Nothing. Stats mean nothing, so does hitting the crossbar twice from set pieces. We were poor in many aspects of the game. WBA could have had a lot more with better decision making. We were OK at times on the break, but playing Conway up front means he's often isolated as central midfield doesn't keep up; even if we get the ball wide. We're lucky others below are just as bad. Still a way to go, but as I always say...18th position given our run in.

Trevor Challis shared this. Some good goals and hope you can vote for Ellijah Morrison for his goal v Burnley. It's better than the current leader from Plymouth. The best team goal is probably the Sutton Utv v Franchise.

    Enjoy 😉

Sadly he didn't win. Clearly Plymouth managed to motivate more people to vote despite the goal being nowhere near as good as the others.

There is definitely things going on that aren't in the public domain, apologies but I don't understand why they would be contacting you?

My point was that anything you are planning on doing is likely already in progress

OK, but the fact that I coached and managed BCWFC from 1998 to around 2000 might be of interest. I am contacting Neil Palmer anyway.

  5. Generally better but psychological approach is clearly a struggle. Conceding so quickly after scoring and unable to adapt to the relentless pressure, particularly from Burns. Ipswich showed us what momentum is, just like Southampton when they went straight up from league 1. We are miles off this sort of squad and will still struggle until the end of the season.

For fear of you treading on people's toes and also to prevent you duplicating work already done I'd advise speaking to both Neil Palmer and Scott Davidson first.

It's possible both the former players association and the Bristol City Heritage have the ball rolling on this already.

Thanks, but knowing City I won't hold my breath until the contact me about my work with BCWFC. 😀

As a simple question: is there any official documentary/historical recording of the original City Girls? I know that was a long time ago (it doesn't seem so to old duffers like me!) and that the organisation then was a whole world away from the WSL, but does the club have a space in its heritage? If not, perhaps there should be.

I remember watching local women's football since the days of (City fan) Marcia Dean and wonder 'where are they now?' Are any of the girls still involved with football?

I have thought about this many times. Many still go to AG and I see them around. It would be great to get the ball rolling on a proper history of the club  and perhaps get it in print. I'll get my thinking cap on and reach out to some of the ex players. 🤔

This must be '95'ish? Carly Bryant, Heidi Bevan and Michelle Munro ( Ithink) were still playing when I first saw them v Doncaster Belles @ Almondsbury in '97.

Those 3 were cracking players, all loved a tackle and could have played at a higher level. I worked with them occasionally at U16 level in 1997, 98 then the senior squad. There was a lot of talent but not the opportunity girls have today.

Just wanted to say that I have never seen this photo before, and thanks for sharing.
I understand this is the variation of City Women that eventually dissolved in the 2000s?

The history of BCWFC is quite complicated. It really needs a diffinitive history writing. I can't remember the exact date of this but it was around 1999,2000 and taken at Clevedon's Hand Stadium.

Another WSL game at the Gate, another disappointment.

I will accept that there is a good side sat on the treatment tables and today's side is far from first pick all round. However, there also has to be a response that can afford a decent chance of playing against lower-half teams. For too long this afternoon we were uncertain, reserved, stand-offish. Yes, it's inevitable that a makeshift side will struggle but I feel there should have been a little more passion. Starting in a 5-4-1 out is the default formation and designed to prevent being overrun, but it also has the effect of giving players the 'defend first' mindset. It's what we've done all season.

The first 10-15 minutes was encouraging but faded into a fall-back around our own half thereafter. It helps to score the first goal but we didn't defend well enough; both goals both preventable (although well taken in truth). Trying to get forward and opening up the flanks proved difficult; Ella Powell did get a couple of runs going but the invariable outcome was a cross into the box for our only forward to get on the end of it. Too often we offered little threat up front. Ffion Morgan was the other fullback, interestingly, and also tried to get going but, once again, was often found out of position when we lost the ball.

The midfield was finding Vicki Losada a real handful and the Brighton players looked a step quicker in thinking and moving. As the second half started it looked like there had been a stiff halftime talk. The girls were brighter, quicker and had a much more aggressive attitude. Some progress and goals did come from that but it was a Sisyphean task when the defence could not keep it out of the net. Getting back to 3-4 only brought more weak defending and concessions. Lauren Smith might have been a bit more courageous with the substitutions but they didn't really get much joy. The last quarter of an hour had a sense of a desperate all-out gamble that fell short by some margin.

It's not been great watching us this season. There is a clear separation at the foot of the table and it doesn't look like it will be closed yet. We have a decent squad but lack real talent in depth. The girls don't deserve this but the WSL is no place for charity. The champagne from last season's promotion party has dried up, and it's painful seeing hopes and dreams being dashed. The bottom line is we can't defend well enough and can't score enough - plain and simple.

An excellent post. There are a lot of gaps at times in the formation, leading to misplaced passes or players isolated. It's frustrating seeing the same clubs in the men's and women's games leading the leagues but it's all about investment. When I coached BCWFC in the 90's the big clubs were nowhere and not interested. I received nothing for the time and effort I put in, apart from the gratitude of the players and their families. The mens club provided a minibus and old kit, but that was it. However, it was fun and we kept the club alive. City had a chance to make the women's team one of the best in the country with the right investment, but like all things it's back to square one.

what could u possibly offer ?

I work with people developing positive mindset, relieving stress, mental recovery. The club has sport psychologists but clearly given the state of the men, women and rugby team whatever they are doing is not working 😕

This. 2 accountants who know Jack about football. Clueless the pair of them

As I've said on posts in the men's forums, it's all about corporate, buildings, arenas, conferences, concerts, exhibitions and naming a stand after yourself. Sadly the sport plays second fiddle. 😕

  13. This is poor. Just like watching the men. Static at that corner. Unforced errors,  giving the ball away, lack pace and movement. They look weak physically at times in the challenges too. Good experience for the players, but can't compete at this level.

There is a common theme going on in the Championship with the vogue being for young head coaches being brought in to achieve success, based on what Rob Edwards did with Luton and McKenna had been achieving with Ipswich. The difference is as that both of those had actually achieved promotions at a lower level, unlike most of the other young coaches brought in who have achieved nothing tangible in most cases, just maybe a run of good results. It’s bombed at Birmingham with Rooney. It’s bombed at Sunderland with Beale. And it’s bombing with Manning here. Yet some owners seem to think it’s some guarantee of success to go for the next “bright young coach” rather than stick with an experienced manager who was doing ok in the circumstances.

Agree Dr. Thankfully it's first v second in Alex's game this morning, so despite my surgery I will be wrapping up warm to watch him play. I won't be back at at AG until April unless I get the all clear from the surgeon. Could be a blessing in disguise 🥸

  15. Up and down the country there are kids and adults wearing Liverpool, Man City, Utd etc shirts who follow PL teams despite not coming from these cities, or probably attending any games. They are followers of success,  not suupporters. My 11-year-old son doesn't. He's born in Bristol, only has City or England shirts, and a season ticket. He's a one club kid...and bored. My boy is a fantastic footballer, a striker, who understands the game, watches European football on YouTube and knows what is entertaining and successful football. How long can the current board etc expect him to watch this s**t and keep him motivated to follow his club. He's got many friends who don't want to come either. This is the future of our club, and sadly the current board are only interested in ££. Sorry SL/JL you are destroying your own future with s**t decisions. FFS sort it out  or move on.

Anticipate a battering here but I’ll post my thoughts anyway.

We should keep him. LM is going poorly - let’s have it right. We’ve lost to three teams with worse squads than us on the spin. Criticism is more than fair and us, as paying and long-suffering supporters, are qualified to give it.

    But.

    - These are not his players. They don’t suit his style. His one ‘big’ signing in his mould is injured (an ongoing issue here that long precedes LM). He will need the summer.

    - The same idiots still own the club. The next appointment will also struggle - they struggle at appointing managers.

    - He’s got over 3 years of contract left. So has his assistant. We’ve sorted our money issues, let’s not piss all that money away now.

    - This will be the least popular one. We showed some signs of progress today. We nicked the ball high on about 4 occasions, that’s our best avenue of attack and we saw signs of it. I actually think we were the better team today. They scored one set piece, and their keeper had a solid game. Today was better, albeit against a low bar.

We’re safe this season. Some will say we’re not but we are. 9 points AND 9 places clear. 6 more points from 11 games will do it.

The problems lie above his head, and until they’re gone, we will always fail at this level. No amount of chopping and changing managers will change that fact. And even if they do finally get it right and appoint a man to take us forward… we know they’ll sack him anyway.

Sorry don't agree. Yes problems are above his head, but he's also the problem. He had an interview told them what they wanted to hear and has failed to deliver. A good coach can make things work with what they've got. I did it as coach with BCWFC in the 90's when I made the team hard to beat, saved them from relegation and to the semifinal of the Glos cup. I didn't try to play a style that didn't fit the players. It was identifying strengths of what I had in the squad then playing to it. I remember watching Cardiff play and knew how to nullify their threat by playing someone basically in the centre circle to break up everything that came through the middle and forced them wide. We drew 2 - 2 and turned the corner. Manning has no other plans, which is why we struggle. The football is boring, predictable and  easy to nullify. People go on about the FA cup  but we had no shots on target at home to Forest. In a one-off cup game! Our run-in is very tough and could quite easily slip into the bottom 3.

  17. This was another inept, clueless performance. Cardiff were dire, but still came away with the points. Even the relegation betting odds have gone from 375/1 to 150/1. Another couple of defeats and it's looking more likely that we'll be close. I still think we'll finish 18th. Same problems, but no passion, especially in a derby game. My wife went and hates football as I was home following surgery. Her first words were, 'why were they passing around the back with 10 minutes to go, shouldn't they be getting it into the box and trying to score. It was so slow.' Says it all, and SL/JL will still be asking for £550 for my next season ticket.
