Just been to the sonny stores pop up in Quaker's friar, they’ve taken over the old Klausterhaus site whilst their usual place on Raleigh Road is being refurbed.

3 courses for £25, every weekday lunch. New menu every day.

Was amazing value (those with a * are eligible for the deal), essentially getting a 3 course meal that’s typically cost £40-£50 for £25. Highly recommend, and is an amazing work day pick me up!

It’s about time I had a day in the central work offices ha

  2. Mate just got through on phone after an hour long hold in que

tried to shift 4 of us to some different seats . Managed to do his, hold 3 seats for each of us next to him , but we all need to call up seperately in next 24 hours to confirm them

so if that’s the way it’s going to work I imagine the phone lines will remain busy long into the day

  3. I really enjoyed Barrio alto for some boozing in the evenings. Tight streets where it feels like loads of people have just thrown open there windows and started selling cocktails and drinks out of them. Some proper bars too but I really liked the slightly chaotic feel of it all. Not sure if it’s like that all week or maybe more on weekends. If going to classy bars and stuff is more your cup of tea might not get the job done but i really enjoyed it, felt a bit more unique than your average bar street / area

i went on a stag do years ago but flew in a day earlier and did a whistle stop tour of main tourist bits on day 1 before everyone else turned up and and it was mainly just drinking. Really nice city I thought. I reckon a walking tour could be a good shout as someone suggested earlier

  4. Had dine in at nutmeg once years back and really enjoyed. Had a few takeaways since as it’s often on Uber eats and they send through discounts. Understandably didn’t stand out quite as much as a takeaway as the presentation element of the dishes isn’t there. Still very nice though

I believe they have opened a small plates place down next to hippodrome in last year but not checked it out yet. Mate who is a Bristol food influencer went in for the launch and the pics looked great

had meal in mint room one and it was nice but the few extra £ on everything made a massive difference on the bill at end. Might have been a couple of expensive Indian spiced old fashions on there that didn’t help either ha

Rasassy in hotwells is a takeaway fave of mine , never had dine in there though.

always find coronation curry house a bit of an odd one. It’s ranked as pretty much top restaurant in Bristol on Tripadvisor , and although the food is nice, the restaurant itself is pretty no frills. Can’t quite work out how it has reached its incredible rating. Is it because the guy who runs it is meant to be a top bloke?

Did you get the DSP at Renato's?

The guy who runs it has been doing it for some years out of old pubs and stuff trying to get it going I think, genuinely some of the best pizza I've ever had. Really need to get back there.

As in Detroit style pizza ? Yes it was great , really different to most other pizza places I have been too. even though it’s extremely thick base it’s not heavy at all. It’s full veggie in terms of topping choices which wouldn’t be my normal pref , but we had one with plant based pepperoni on it and didn’t really notice the difference

its called pizza is lovely and they run it from the upstairs in Renatos. They still sell pizza by the slice in downstairs bar also , but that is a more conventional style / thinner base

Got a feeling they ran it out of the orchard pub for a bit years back but I didn’t try it then

Agree on the pulpo. Make sure you try the aubergine next time.

Are you going Sprints next week? Should meet for a cider!

    Yes going with 3 mates

will come and say hello if I see you in there before the set starts

gonna check out that Detroit style pizza place upstairs in renatos before the gig

think they used to do it out of a hatch in the orchard years back. Never had it but heard good things and a bit different to all the other sourdough stuff most places are doing these days (although no complaints with sourdough pizzas)

Well, I've made my feelings on Gambas clear in the past!

Question is, did you have the fried aubergine with molasses and/or goxua dessert? Two of the finest dishes in Bristol!

    Must admit it did not.

Went with my wife rather than with a big group. Ordered a fair few dishes but the aubergine didn’t jump out on paper over some of the others we ordered.

the octopus was one of best dishes I have eaten in Bristol though.

we also didn’t order any desert as the wife has no sweet tooth so we often skip it and just get a couple extra dishes earlier in meal

I do like a desert tho so will save space for it next time

Gonna concentrate on Tare Bistro which also looks great tbf

Went here a few weeks back and it we really good

went to Gambas a couple of months back and thought that was great too.

Gambas prob edged it if I had to pick a winner

  10. SZA headlining pyramid stage is def the biggest stretch I have ever seen at glasto before.

Not really a RNB vibe at glasto generally, pretty ploddy, no bangers. Can only see it being a binfire to the smallest pyramid crowd on record

appreciate she has lots of ‘global streams’ , but it’s going to be a poor gate at the gas I reckon

  11. There’s actually loads on I want to see but but the pyramid does look a bit sparse for my tastes

LCD , Janelle Monae and probably Little Simz I will watch. Maybe Kiwanuka , maybe Paul Heaton

hopefully there might be a large scale TBA to sprinkle a bit of magic on one of the days (bit like Foos last year)

  12. First 3 albums were class , one of my fav bands at that point l, 4th one felt like such a huge sellout though

haven’t really listened to any of the albums release since then , but the singles I have heard from them didn’t hook me back in.

have heard some of these latter albums are actually passable , but just can’t get over the 4th album trauma ha

If you're in the area 1st September I think you're going to be in luck...

(I wonder if we should have a general Bristol gigs / festivals thread..?).

You had a tip off on this one for forwards?

drop me a pm if you can’t post on forum ha

I was hoping they might appear as in London weekend before,  think they are at a Portuguese festival on forwards weekend. Maybe they could play Friday then fly back in for the Sunday? (aphex twin did similar I think)

Enjoying The Last Dinner Party debut album..

Got tickets for Sea Girls next month & The Snuts in Nov.

Also enjoyed last dinner party album

not sure it entirely deserves the hype levels that surround it , but by all accounts they put on a cracking live show too

hoping they will pop up earlyish one day at Glastonbury

missed recent fleece show and can’t do the academy date later in year

Is it only a pop up? I’d heard they were coming to Bristol but didn’t realise it was just a pop up. They have a branch below the apartments at the County Ground in Taunton. Eaten there a few times before a t20 game or after a day watching some county championship cricket. It is fantastic. They were on a tv show a while back that was looking for the best takeaway food restaurant in the country and they won the fried chicken category.

You may well be correct about it not being a pop up

I always presume that even a place is operating out of a pub it’s more of temporary arrangement perhaps, a pop up or kitchen takeover or similar, while they test the water for perhaps a proper location of own

Looking at website there is no mention of a limited period , so hopefully it stays there for good .
nice to be able to get a decent pint with it at present too

  16. Went to king st brewhouse after watching rugby in town yesterday to check out ‘eat the bird’ pop up thee

they have a few places wales and south west but first time I have really heard of it .

had a Korean chicken burger which has just won some national award , was absolutely banging! Cannot recommend it highly enough.

shared a loaded buffalo and blue chicken fries too which was completely unecessary mindful of how big the burgers were anyway , but was also top draw

  17. Almost popped in mowgli the other night on a walk in, but looked like there would be a wait so ducked it in the end. Maybe we dodged a bullet, although count have just been an off night on service I guess

perhaps service will pick up when some of the initial crowds tail off
