  1. What ever happened to the lady police officer who used to post on here? Forget her name, but she had some things to say about that case and I think she even interviewed Henbury gas about it.
  2. Was watching the '79 FA Cup final earlier on ITV4. Brain Moore commentating...what a masterful delivery he had. Never said too much, or too little. Never filled space with banal cliches, just described the action. Was very fond of Motty too, and Barry Davies. Kings of the sportscasters in those days. Twatterface isn't fit to hold their mic. None of them are today. One exception being the commentator of this game below. Riveting! And @6.30, well you decide...
  3. It makes me wonder (and sorry for the tangent) what might have happened if Cheesley had had access to all the knowledge and facilities available to players today. I guess back then they didn't know what they were doing. Who knows what sort of career he may have gone on to have? It really goes to show, these sort of injuries are no joke. If poorly treated, they can END careers. So unfortunate how it turned out for Cheese.

It's also another team that made it back to the top flight before us. (for us 43 years and counting) How many still-existing former top flight teams have a longer hiatus than us? Can think of Orient (I think), Carlisle, a few knocking around in the lower leagues, but there can't be many with our stature.

Crazy town. Luton in the Prem. Gratz I guess. They must be going out of their minds, considering where they were a few short years ago. Coventry...well, we know how they feel.
  6. My first thought was, but in which third-world country?

    Top 3 up?

If I recall correctly, Wednesday fans were out in force too that night (probably making things worse). After the match, they were lined up on the pavements applauding the City coaches as they made their way out of Sheffield. ?

    Playoffs

I've heard some claim the estimated 'unofficial' attendance of that game was closer to 50,000. The fewers say they'll watch their team from the pavement - we'll watch ours from the roof!
  9. I was there this day (below), last game of the season 1990, promoted to (the then) Division Two. Think it was against Walsall and we won 4-0. My lasting memory was the goal scored by David Rennie - a sublime 20 yard chip that looped over the keeper. 90th minute and the Eastend prepares to invade the pitch, sparking 'Scenes'!
  10. No, our worse run that season was going just 2 games without a win, which we managed on four separate occasions (three of them were 2 consecutive draws).
  11. I think I went to every away game we lost in the 88/89 season. Had a thoroughly miserable time for the most part, but I was at Bradford for the 1-0 League Cup quarter final win which made up for a lot of it, although I didn't really see the goal as it happened in the first minute and most of us were still filtering into the terrace (it was packed!). Was also at Forest the 1-1 draw in the semis.
  12. Another way to look at it is, the more his talent goes unstated - or at least understated - the less awareness and attraction he'll draw. And I'm fine with that.
  13. Seen bits of them on Soccer Saturday and have to agree, they're awful. In all honesty though, Sky Sports has become unbearably awful the last couple of years and for a variety of reasons. I unsubscribed a while back, absolutely not worth my time or money any more. I have to say however the pundits on Quest's EFL show have seriously impressed me. The knowledge, the articulation, the personality. They are far and away a superior product to what Sky are putting out. The presenter too (forgot his name) is top notch, he knows his stuff and is entertaining. Big shame Quest has lost the rights to broadcast EFL highlights next year, or so I heard.
  14. A pretty miserable comment, but not completely unjustified. There is what, 270 combined years of history between the two Bristol clubs, and what exactly is there to show for that? A few mickey mouse cups of one stripe or another, and nowt else!
  15. Remember in one match years ago, an opposition defender took out one of our players (can't remember who) with a pretty rough challenge, then Mark Aizelwood casually walks the length of the pitch, strolls right up to his face and chins him. Aizelwood was a proper hard nut. Also playing in defence at that similar time was Glenn Humphries (nickname psycho), and John Pender. That's what you call a proper defensive unit.
  16. An away win A last minute winning goal that goes to us And a clean sheet Unbelievable Jeff!
  17. What about Mangotsfield? Not sure where they play, but is there a chance they could ever climb the pyramid to at least Conference level? I'm just thinking of a team that play within Bristol, or at least within the Greater Bristol area, and they come to mind.
  18. Away days at Elm park in the 80s, although I missed the one in 84, was always a tasty affair. Remember the heaving terraces at one end of season game, and a City fan actually climbing the floodlight pylon. Great view from up there I'm sure, but holy hell that was dicey.. Also remember, after one game, the coaches pulling away from the ground and Reading fans lined up on the pavement to see us off - bricks in hand. Can't recall if any got lobbed or not, but yeh, was glad to make it onto the M4 in one piece!
  19. Very sad to hear. Sillett was proper old school. Used to have the players running laps around the pitch until they threw up. Would love to see him cracking the whip on this sorry bunch! He'd get their arses moving in a hurry. RIP
  20. Bloody shambles. I cannot see where a run of wins - that could keep us in this division - is going to come from. Absolute wasters!
  21. Did he? Gosh, memory of that game is somewhat faded. I just recall it ended 1-1, and we were very optimistic going into the final against Walsall.
  22. Mate, I think it's slightly worse than you remember. After getting back into it by winning that second leg 2-0, Ralph Milne missed a damn sitter right near the end! That goal would put us into division 2 right then and there. To cap it off, we lost the replay 4-0 (not 3-0), or so I recall. But I agree, if there was any set of games that sums us up over the last 30 years, it was the play-offs of '88. Colin Gordon secured our spot with a very late winner on the last game of the season, filling us all with hope. We beat Sheff Utd 1-0 in first leg of the semis and take a slender lead to Brammall Lane. We almost screw it up, but there was Carl Shutt in the dying minutes to equalize with a stooping header. Scenes! And we're filled with hope again... Cue David Kelly. The end.
  23. Yup remember that one, I got frickin soaked that day. Didn't it snow as well a little bit? I might be misremembering, or it was a different game.
