  1. Proper football kit that! No fuss, no pretension, the real deal. Purple and lime with pin-stripes? Like a pair of girls' pyjamas.. No bloody thanks!
  2. Only in the 70s. That decade was mental. God I miss it...
  3. There has to be something properly wrong with him. He is essentially dehumanizing a group of people based purely on the football team they support. He then goes on to joke about actually killing them by mowing them down with his car! Jeeeezus. He must have borderline psychopathic tendencies or something. We all like a joke, a bit of banter with the rivalry, and yes some of it can get quite coarse. But I would never, ever, upon viewing a group of Rovers fans crossing the road, think "hey, wouldn't it be sort of funny if, hmm, you know, I ran them all over and killed them, hahaha, they won't feel anything because, well...they ain't human!" Absolute knuckle dragger!
  4. Then in that case he has joined the perfect club. They seem to complement each other very well indeed.
  5. Yep, and I wish it was more too. We can take the mickey out of the sags all day long saying, where have their thousands of loyal and true disappeared to? But in our 70s pomp we could boast close to 40k for the big games, so where did they all go? Whereas a large portion of potential next gen Rovers fans will be more attracted by the bright lights of Ashton Gate than the gloom of a scrubby allotment in Horfield (and who could possibly blame them), it is also true, unfortunately, that a portion of potential new City fans have been lost to the big Prem glamour boys like Liverpool and Chelsea and Man City and so on. Because in the same period of time - the last thirty years - we have hardly covered Bristol in glory either. We have both shed fans, but because of (mis)fortunes on the field it's been far more blue than red. That trend will continue so long as Rovers remain in the basement, and at the Memorial. It would seem that of the majority of Rovers fans that do remain 'loyal and true' are the sworn die-hards of the older generation, who wouldn't and couldn't shift allegiance any more than we would or could. Their casuals, which in general make up the lion's share of any team's attendances, are long gone.
  6. And that's the blunt truth of it. And it's also the truth, in my opinion, that if Rovers had managed to build that ~20k seater stadium they've been promised since forever, and if they had been a decently run club for the last 30 years or so, they may well have attained and secured a reasonable parity with us, and probably be a Championship team. And if that was case, they'd obviously be enjoying a lot more gate than their scant 6-8k or whatever it is/was. The reason their fans are almost nowhere to be seen at all is that their club, on and off the field, have been a consistent shower for nigh on these last 30 years.
  7. Quite frankly that is unbelievable. That's not a forum at all is it, but a private little (emphasis on the word little) fraternity of fanbois whose only remit is to accept new members only if they fall inline with their self-constructed echo chamber. Could there even be another football club forum anywhere on the web like that one? And the temerity to question whether the poster is a genuine Rovers fan! as if the idea of a 'genuine Rovers fan' is grounds for actual debate! Jeeeez. Imagine if every new poster here had their City-supporting credentials immediately put under scrutiny. Not welcomed onboard as one of us, free to post whatever they wish, but jumped on, cross-examined, and then arbitrarily tossed out the door. This really says everything there is to know about them. "As above, so below." That whole club is rancid through and through.
  8. They could easily make up the numbers imo and fill empty seats. After covid, there'll be thousands of spare cardboard cut-out fans knocking about. ?
  9. Errr, wut? I think they're mixing up Rovers with City. It's potentially arguable that City maaay at one time or another been as 'big a club', or on a par with, the likes of Brighton, Swansea, Reading and Hull. But even that isn't really the case today. All those clubs have, in the first analysis, tasted Premier League football and relatively recently. Some have even won major honours (Swansea won the EFL cup a few years back). Let's face it, we are behind those four clubs. And Rovers are way behind us. Miles behind at every level. They have really lost the plot. They've spent the vast majority of their history in the 3rd tier. They are a proverbial Astronomical Unit from the likes of Reading or Brighton. Rovers are far closer to being approximate to a Shrewsbury, a Chesterfield, or a Mansfield Town.
  10. Yup, and for good reason. But the blue/red divide did used to be a thing.
  11. New stadium noise...in 1965! This explains so much about them. No wonder their fans are all doo-lally. I think I would be following a club that had let me down so much. So glad I grew up on the red side of town. I think if I was on the blue side, I'd have crossed the damn river by now and said 'goodnight Irene' for the last time. Nineteen-sixty-bloody-five. England has actually won the World Cup since then!
  12. Only went to Eastville once, but my enduring recollection of it was City away days. Whenever the CATS coach drove past it on its way up the M32, all merriment and chatter briefly stopped. To be replaced by a collective hiss that travelled down the length of the coach.
  13. Absolute delusion! Portsmouth have won the League twice; won the FA Cup twice, and the League Cup; they were in the top flight (old division one), from 1927 until 1959. That's 32 consecutive seasons. Their highest home attendance is 51k Bigger than Portsmouth... ?
  14. So he walks from a club sitting pretty in a play-off spot, for a club in a lower division and a full 37 places beneath them. Unbelievable Jeff. Has that ever happened before? Is there even a similar case?
  15. Was at that game too. My enduring memory was someone climbing one of the floodlight pylons. It was quite terrifying to observe, must've been cidered right up. beyond that, don't remember any trouble per se, certainly not any City fans getting 'a pasting' as he says. If #GasLogic is a thing then selective #GasMemory is a problem too.
  16. Those honours make Blackburn considerably bigger than we are. So if Rovers are bigger than Blackburn, and Blackburn are bigger than us, then Rovers are bigger than City. That ladies and gentlemen is how #GasLogic works.
  17. It's worth noting. After going through the entire 1980's being at the receiving end of a lot of Rovers gloating is precisely why I hold my tongue - things can change, no matter how unlikely. I like a bit of banter, and taking the p!ss a little bit, but I don't gloat. There have been reversals in the past. Fortunes are like a sine wave, with ups and downs through time. We're on top at present, well on top. But gloating is as sure a way as any to tempt fate! I like reading this thread and having a daily chuckle, but I'm well reminded that things CAN change. Sorry to be a damp squib.
  18. These pictures, my God... These are pre-war match day facilities... Is this the true cause of Gas derangement syndrome? I mean, years and years of this has got to do a number on you.
  19. Hm, I'd have expected Swindon and Cardiff somewhere on the list of clubs who don't like us. But Bury and Burnley? What have we ever done to upset them?
  20. Rovers, 1883? Rovers weren't even admitted to the Football League until 1920. 19 years behind us. One of the oldest LEAGUE clubs? They're not even a hundred years old. And as stated, arguably just 4 years old.
  21. Well pleased with the point. Not a good watch, but plenty of postives from a tough fixture I wasn't all that positive about. Particularly early in each half we looked decent, snuffing Derby out for long stretches and limiting them to the counter, where they were most dangerous. Resolute defence when it had to be - I hope Baker's injury isn't bad. Had some chances tho, but punchless up front -again. We need a striker bad, been of the opinion for a long time. If we had Tammy in this team or Kodjia, we'd be in the automatics. It was good to see Famara back ofc, but he looked off the pace and his touch was often poor (understandably). Rode our luck, but definitely a point gained. Was a clear pen, and would've been had Jerome not flown through the air like an olympic diver before he hit the turf. Serves ya right, pal.
