Remember you would be making that decision as a multi millionaire already.

If its a matter if principles it shouldn't matter but you kind of would have sympathy if it was a young broke rookie trying to secure his families future

Yeah good point...does Lefty or Dustin Johnson  really need the money for instance?

Apparently Cam Smith is going to sign for a reported 200m!! .... that's a spicy meatball however rich you are....also the liv golfers may not be able to play on the tours but they'll be able to play in at least 3 of the majors I believe.

  2. Tricky subject isn't it... Lee Westwood,  for instance, given loads to the European tour over the years but not really competing any more nearly 50 and the Saudis offer him a shit ton of cash to play 3 rounds of what amounts to exhibition.... I'd like to think I would turn it down.. but....

  3. ****, just caught up with this.. guys a legend... last time I played at what was the brewhouse on stokes croft the big man came along,  id seen him around for years on the scene,  and he made it into an awesome night, got the whole crowd going... my profile pic is from that night i think,  and I get there's many people could tell the same story. Xx what a guy.

    Lovely little ground is Mangotsfield....enjoy.

Talking of nice grounds, went to Brimscombe & Thrupp up in Stroud for the first time last Wednesday.

Absolute cracker of a ground, very picturesque...and the Stroud Brewery & Taproom next door for a pre-match pint.

Friend of mines son plays for them,  it's a great ground, love the terrace

What a mess we are in.

An owner saying he wants out having failed in his declared objective for over a quarter of a century

    Many fans wanting manager out

Too small a squad at this level

Best players may yet leave, even worst players leaving could leave unfillable gaps in squad

Possible points deduction still on the horizon.

Supporting City has, over my 8 decades as a fan, never been easy but the present cup of woe does seem very worrying indeed.

The first time I played there Will, it was blowing a gale and OOB right was definitely in play.... Solid driver, then good 8 iron just over the burn.... For perspective, we drove the 18th...

The second time I played it, I dinked a 3 iron down there, then chipped over the Swilcan Burn from about 5 yards short of it.... Crazy place.

Maurice Flitcroft - my favourite pub quiz question ? I have read the book, and a shame they didn't mention his calamitous high diving act at holiday camps when he was young - more Eddie the Eagle than Seve....

    ?

Ah I'd love to have a look one day or even play some links style at some point . Just returned to the game after many years and don't think I'd get my money's worth playing on a big name course...

I've played to an ok standard over many years, playing a fair amount of competitive golf.

I can tell you I have never been as nervous as I have been on that first tee..... Shaking so much, I struggled to get the ball on the tee!

    ?

Further to your reply 're" if you can't hit the fairway on the first at st Andrews.." I give you Ian Baker Finch, an Aussie golfer good enough to WIN the Open in 1991 but in 1995 famously hooked it out of bounds on the very same 1st hole of his first round of the Open @St Andrews. I can see it now? poor bloke and apparently he was fine practising but just got the yips when it mattered...

On a similar note, was reading this earlier on never heard of him before, the 'Phantom of the Open'

Worth a watch even if you don't like golf,  very gentle, sweet film.

I'm led to believe this is his style in general. I've had his 'Red or Dead' on my wish list for ages.

Might give 'The Damned United' a go but am struggling to give a toss about Leeds Utd and therefore devote time to it ; the film was ok, a good impersonation by the welsh fella. Peace has also written acclaimed novels but, like you say, his style is "interesting".  Would rather just read a good biography of Cloughie, of which there's more than one.

Stick with it, I happened to be a Leeds fan at that point in time as I was only 5/6 and they were the top team,  it's an unusual book in the way it's written. Bit of a stretch but elements of it are almost akin to Ulysses or even the Odyssey... the film doesn't capture it really even with Micheal sheen

Just putting it out there to see what the response would be if a player came out as a MAP, without committing any illegal act.
Would being an open MAP also be classed as being brave & something we should celebrate, in the same way as coming out as gay?

You've had a bit of a mare there mate.

Must admit I had Charlton down as a likelier destination.

Hibs are by Scottish standards one of the biggest clubs outside the Old Firm, also not sure how much of an impact playing 4 games for Hearts 16 years ago would have on any reaction to his appointment.

Success for them, Hearts or Aberdeen is finishing third, if he gets it then it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

Charlton... mid table league one.... decent team under Curbs back in the day

Little surprise here really. I had Gibbs~White and Carvalho in mine instead of Yates and Worrall.

Well done to Wes Burns and Jojo Wollocott for getting in their leagues team of the season as well

To be fair to GJ, he was with us in the championship longer than league one, including getting us to a play off final of course.

Yep, quite right, Graham has pointed that out to me. Puts GJ's time into perspective. That was the time I watched city the most as well,  season ticket etc, so I should know better.

I agree with 99% of that, but it isn’t actually true re GJ, because far more of his time with us was at Championship level (mainly because he got us promoted in his first full season), so his 40% win ratio was largely at that level.

Thanks Graham,  I stand corrected for making sweeping generalisations??

  14. Whenever I see" happy clappers" I reach for my revolver?

Stats are only as useful as the accuracy and context of the data.

GJ, Cotts, etc all managed mostly at league one where we would be perceived as bigger club with better resources and their results should have reflected this which is why Mcinnes for instance was so disappointing.

It took Cotts, my personal favourite,  to actually walk that walk.

There's only Pearson and LJ who have meaningful stats at this level and LJ wins that one but we all know the context is different.

Don't get me wrong,  it's been poor and I'm not a massive fan of big Nige, but let's be realistic about our actual situation....

I’m hardly a Southgate fan so probably unfair but I can’t help imagine how much better we’d be with a top class manager.

Like an Erickson or a Capello maybe? That went well.

Losing finalists and semi finalists in last two major champs....I think he's due some respect personally.

I thought of that goal against us last night when watching Freddie Sears play against FGR on TV.

There's no doubt about it in my mind we let ourselves down as a club that day.

    Very poor

I Was 10 rows back just to the left of the goal in the Atyeo. Sears scores and the ball pings out off the stanchion, gutted, good goal tho..... But once we realised what was happening and the ref trotted over to the linesman had a chat and ruled the "goal " out it became one of the funniest things I've ever seen at a game.

i seem to remember the lino did have his flag up mind. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think they came up with an offside?

Absolute nonsense mind, nothing wrong with it at all and I might agree with you if it had been anyone other than Colin but he can **** right off, he was apoplecetic... Wonderful...
