Wasn't it stated that "The Plan" was to get rid of the older more experienced Pros ?

If the plan now is to get rid of the older more experienced fans, then I can see it being a remarkable success.

Not going to happen  Seagull. I posted previously that the hierarchy won’t want more egg on their faces after sacking Nige with a flimsy explanation.

SLs strategy is ‘stability and sustainability’ and changing a manager so soon after appointing him goes against the former.

Actually it would be to their credit to say, 'We accept and regret that it simply hasn't worked.'

Other Championship clubs have taken decisive action in an attempt to limit damage and get fans back on side. They would have been embarrassed too but they knew it needed to be done and didn't shirk a difficult decision.

When something's not working the sooner the situation is rectified the better - in this case for LM too imo.

They may well be embarrassed, as they should be, but that embarrassment and discomfort will only increase the longer they leave it.

Take the bull by the horns and put everyone out of their misery, no club should settle for the sort of stability LM brings which is rapidly emptying the stands.

He’s got the summer for me and then I will review in the new season. Partly as I have zero faith in the people above Manning to get it right if they appoint again.

As a fit for Bristol City it's hard to imagine they could have made a worse choice.

On that basis any subsequent appointment must at least be an improvement.

I accept what you think based on the past RR...but imo he will change tact if the losses continue and the fans become more vociferous.

He can go on a winning streak all he likes, if he does it playing Manningball, then I'd rather stick pins in my eyes.

He's boring, his football is boring.

Agree. Even if the results start improving his style of football is unwatchable.

What's it come to - we used to gather in the players car park and surround the staff entrance, vent our feelings and force all of them to listen. Chanted at matches for change. The paper and radio would be swamped.

It's not like the old days, with CCTV they will quite happily chuck out those seen to be overly venting their feelings and ban agitators.

I've just heard an advert on the radio for listeners to buy tickets for forthcoming City games, proclaiming it to be the 'perfect family day out'.

That's what they want and that's it's come to - the rest of us passionate fans 'who want them to listen' are a bit of an incovenience that can be sorted out with the passage of time.

    NOOOOOOOOO!

    DEFINITELY NOOOOOOOOOO

And just incase you are confused by my post...

******* NOOOOOOO, NOT NOW, NOT EVER!!!!

The first priority imo is to get Manning out.

I'd prefer NW to the end of the season - no longer - rather than Manning.

Perhaps it was meant to be, if only very short term.

The chances are remote to nil though, especially as relegation is not a great concern.

What comes next is a secondary consideration to me at this stage. Manning has to go.

We'll have breathing space to think about it and hopefully decision makers have learnt their lesson and will make a far more suitable appointment.

Meanwhile In house most likely to see out the season and Andy King would do nicely.

    It isn't simple though.

Manning being sacked calls in to question BT and JL management/decision making.

But even more so if they don't sack him.

The longer they leave it the worse it gets for them, us and the club.

It would actually be in their favour to hold their hands up, humbly admit it hasn't worked, and give a new man time to set up his squad for next season.

With the 2 week break no better time to do the deed than tonight imo.

Might make at least a few of 4-5k STH's rethink about deserting the club too.

JL to swallow his pride…..no chance of that happening anytime soon…..

JL and BT knee-deep into the LM appointment which at this point, I don’t see ending well.

Can see us backing Manning in the summer but if this doesn’t go well/to plan, see us making another managerial change in October/November - round and round we go….

I think the ST renewal figures will shock them so much they'll be forced to take action, however red-faced it makes them.

If you’ve been supporting since 1971, you will have seen a lot worse than this season.

I have, on both counts, but there's a cumulative effect from numerous past boardroom cock-ups and for many yet another kick in the goolies with the sacking of NP to be replaced by LM feels like the final passion killing straw.

As things stand that's exactly how I feel tonight.

Are you REALLY bringing this up yet again 🤦🤦

Well, I'm saying the sooner Manning threads can be moved to the Ex-players and managers forum (that barely anyone wanted, reads or contributes to) because he's been sacked, the better.

I was addressing it, fairly lightheartedly, to the poster who specifically asked for the new forum.

    Is that a problem Phants?

I think you over rate my influence NOGBAD.

I am neither a decision maker or admin

       However I personally prefer it!

    You surely underestimate your influence.

Why else would your public request for a new forum (which most posters didn't want) lead to what you wanted quickly being set up?

Low viewing figures and the miniscule number of new recent posts suggests very few visitors so the outcome is interesting posts may be missed because so few can be bothered to visit an extra forum.

Agree with lots but not this bit. The media work is under scrutiny because of the results. Monotone, duplicitous, robotic etc would all be fine if we were winning all the time.

I reckon I've been reading the forum 20ish years & struggle to recall many positive threads about the managers pre/post match press interviews when the team is doing badly.

Not sure we had these extensive interviews 20 years ago, it's more of a recent thing?

It suits interesting characters like NP, I was more than happy to listen to his 30 minute press conferences and very often they went in a flash.

LM's are a complete turn off because he's not engaging and doesn't appear to have anything interesting to say so even though his interviews are much shorter than Nige's it's extremely hard to maintain concentration or interest.

Or, increasingly, bother with them at all.

Exactly - people like to lump Johnson and Manning together regarding interviews, but stylistically I think they were actually very different.

Different they may be but both utterly intolerable in their own way nonetheless.

The bloke is brilliant (Phantom) but we need to limit the Manning threads.

    All LM posts here?

With any luck they can soon be moved to the new forum you did so much to instigate RO -  All things ex-players and managers!

Used to go on a Tuesday(?) night which was rock music night. Good times.

Me too, about 76-78. And Saturday lunchtimes too, when they trialed it for a bit, in the summer I think so didn't interfere with going down the Gate.

Remember Stairway to Heaven and the massive queues for the Ladies just before the slow spot so they wouldn't get asked to dance

Plus they always played Hi Ho Silver Lining near the end, so we had to outshout any Rovers fans, and there were a few football scraps afterwards walking up the hill.

I'm not sure if they used to.

They did. I was late renewing one year and received a phone call from the club saying they were sorry I hadn't renewed, was there any particular reason, and it would be very much appreciated it if I did.

If they don't still do this they should, it makes a big difference as a fan to know that they actually care whether you're there or not, and many will be persuaded by a personal touch.

I can't find the link but I think it was Forest a few years ago who contacted lapsed STH's, a very large number at the time, offering them a free match ticket. They were very much talking about reinvigorating a love affair iirc, saying really wanted them back and the free ticket was an opportunity for these fans to get back in the ground and, hopefully, get that love for their club back.

Of course I agree with the thrust of your post. I uoted @ChippenhamRed who made the case about how the flat rate for discounts for pensioners is a bit silly considering the economic situation of the country.

I do also meet every day pensioners who struggle to pay bills and struggle to pay for gym membership, where being able to offer a discount is a delight, and I do feel proud to give those people a realistically very good price to use a gym and pool.

I think we agree that the 60+ group deserve something from their eternal support of a shit football team, and a discount to ST prices is absolutely reasonable. I just think it should be built as a percentage from how many years you've had a ST (surely the club will have this data)?

Don't see how that would work in practice.

I doubt the club have any record of my attendance from 1970 to at least 1997 when I first got a ST because I wouldn't have dreamt of getting one even though I barely missed a home game.

My discount next season will be 85 quid or 17.5 %. I actually think it should be more.

I manage a gym right now for work and this is so spot on. Pensioners get a discounted rate and are the ONLY group that moan about the fees. They pay around 250 bob less per annum than someone in their early 20s. This group complains the most, is dissatisfied with immaterial somethings the most, and it is truly remarkable that those in that bracket have so many benefits living in the UK, yet still find so much to bemoan (in my opinion). This gym is in a rather well off area and many elder members are extremely wealthy, I know for a fact from conversations with them. Chris Martin is also a regular as it goes.

Rather than it being a flat rate for seniors, it should definitely be a discounted rate for years of service following the club.

Don't mistake your wealthy customers in a well off area to the average Bristol City fan.

Many pensioners are not only not well off, in fact far from it, and in the case of City fans will probably have been paying into the club man and boy for 50-60 years.

Do you think City get many new fans aged 65+?

Whatever way you look at it, pensionable age or discount for long service following the club they damn well deserve a discount.

I'm pissed off with Bristol City's hierarchy, that's for sure but I hear the same talk every year and this forum magnifies the discontent tbh. Not saying it's impossible (the person I meet down there is packing in) but unlikely to be thousands imo. Many people go to football for more than the football (which is just as well given the total shite we endure week in, week out).

I don't think it will be the fans who spend half the game getting pissed in the concourse who won't renew, many of them seem to be having a great laugh no matter the result or performance.

More like those who've identified themselves as City fanatics for decades but now find themselves bored stiff and morose at what used to be a highlight of their week.

The football is (or was) everything to them, pints on board or not, and will never be just a part of the day or a secondary consideration.

As you said earlier it will be interesting to see what happens but I do think it's different this time and the club are in for a really big shock.
