WarksRed
I'd always thought the area inside the hoardings around the pitch was the maximum playing area. the Coventry lad was starting his run 15 yards behind the hoardings and running through a gap in them to launch his long throws .... is that legal ???? bcfcshorey
i'm a referee and i believe there is no law on this. I know the hoardings have to be a certain distance away from the touchline but I don't think this is a boundary.
Roe
Probably not and he should've been booked for leaving the field of play.. I'd love to see Coleman's face if the ref actually did that.
Alex_BCFC
Greg Goodridge used to do them all the time.

I see no problem with it (unless it is your sole attacking idea as seems the case with Pulis) ... it would, however, have been much more interesting if he'd hurdled the ads board instead of running through the little gap. Pooki
I'm also a referee and there is no rule as to how far back you go to make your approach , had this very issue come up last season

The Man In Black
Players are more likely to time waste by "thinking" about taking the throw-in and then deciding to allow a colleague to take it (a bit more subtle). Leaving the field of play wouldn't really come into it, it's not like they're going down the tunnel without warning and then returning randomly. edson
What about the Coventry players who left the field of play while their keeper was being treated?
bartolona
What i wanted to know was if he went back any further would he have had to buy a ticket to get back in?
A Horse With No Name
I think if the gap is there he would be entitled to use it, but I remember an incident a few years ago at the Gate, where a player (non City I think ) asked a steward sat alongside one of those yellow pitchside gates to open it so he could take a long run up. The steward did and the player was in the Dolman walkway when he started his run up. I rememeber the steward getting an ear bashing from the referee over this, and no doubt his boss as well. So basically, it seems that you can do it as long as no barrier is moved.

After all, if there was a counter attack how on earth would he fight back through all the people leaving early?
