Carle Dropped From Aussie Squad

AUSTRALIA coach Pim Verbeek has explained why he has left Crystal Palace midfielder Nick Carle out of his latest squad - he doesn’t believe that playing in England suits his game.

The midfielder is currently the Eagles’ leading scorer with three goals this season following a £1million move from Bristol City in the summer.

But Verbeek has caused a stir by not naming Carle in a 35-man party for a World Cup qualifier against Qatar on October 15.

And the Socceroos chief appears to have told the player he needs to quit Palace if he wants to come back into his thinking.

He said: “Players like Nicky should never go to England.

“Nicky‘s qualities are with the ball, shooting at goal, bringing other players into scoring positions - but he never gets the ball.

“He has to win second balls at Palace and this isn‘t one of his strong points."

:noexpression: :noexpression: :noexpression: :noexpression: :noexpression:

well spotted, if you actually read it though, it's more of a pop at Palace than the player, very much stating that he's being wasted at Palace due to their long ball football

looking at the bold part.......looks like the sort of player that we need! he's their top scorer too......

go sign him Gary, looks like the sort of player we should be signing to improve the squad?

When Verbeek says that 'players like Nicky should never go to England'

does he mean because the English game requires players to work hard defending as well as attacking or is it because the pace of the game is too quick for 'players like Nicky' ?

What's with this obsession with Carle and what he's up to? I must be missing something - he was tidy on the ball, ok running with it, quite skillfull and could link up but nothing spectacular, isn't it time to move on. I assume Johnson had his reasons, he's unlikely to make them public so we'll never have a chance to judge whether he was right or wrong. I don't think Carle and his absence is significant - the issue is more about style of play. We need to make sure wide players get out and stay there, 'one foot on the paint', take on full backs and cross from much further up the pitch. I didn't see any stunning service from Carle to the strikers that Johnson, Noble, Williams even Elliott couldn't provide if we made sure we keep the ball on the ground more and play to our strengths.

Can you proffer a better one scumbag?

read the palace forums........it's all explained there.

No one understands why he has been dropped, yet alot of VERY average A-League players have been called up.

The Aussie fans don't understand it, neither do the palace fans who many feel has been their best player this season to date, seems to be a bit of a national outcry back in oz over his exclusion.

It seems that basically the one game that Carle was watched he played left wing due to an early injury and the assistant manager wasn't impressed, interestingly the aussies still rate him as their best player after Kewell, Emerton and Cahill.

either way........he wasn't a regular with them when he was with us, but is still a substantively better than our current option in the attacking midfield postion, his stats this season MORE than back that up.

Reminds a bit of John Gaunt, ignoring a valid argument :rofl2br:

:disapointed2se:

An argument is a set of facts that establish proposition not a series of unsubstantiated opinions from similarly deluded individuuals.

The fact is Carle has been dropped from the Australian squad,

not because he had one bad game, or because he is misunderstood or being victimised

IT'S BECAUSE HE'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

You talk of fact amigo but your final line is nothing more than an opinion just like I have the opinion that Carle was a good player. You are right the fact is Carle has been dropped from the australian squad however scumbag also points out that the Palace fans on their forum rate Carle and for me 3 goals irrespective of the opponents are better than no goals (Lj) or if we are talking about Cole Skuse ,then 3 goals scored by Carle who some fans don't rate is better than about 3 goals that arise from Skuse's lack of Championship ability.

If he was good enough - he'd be in the squad FACT.

really?

So you have a quote from the manager stating he's not good enough for their National Team??? No you don't.

He's not playing because of CURRENT FORM PLAIN AND SIMPLE! much like many players who don't get into many national teams, it's like saying Michael Owen isn't good enough to play for England, just because he isn't currently in the squad.

The manager admits he's among the top players in the country but doesn't feel he's playing well in England, it's quite basically, but is still a concept you seem unable to grasp!

Any chance this could be moved to the main football forum. Because my recollection of Carle is of a decent enough player who did OK for us for a few months, and got sold. Can't we get over him or are we still going to be talking of him as some sort of messiah in ten years time?

This is getting childish now.

What else is there if not current form? On current form he's not good enough - will he ever recover form that will be good enough? He was good enough once - he's not now. I doubt that he ever will be.

Surely the point should be that City fans shouldn't care. Why on earth would we be fussed whether or not a Palace player got in the Australia squad? Also, to all the Carle lovers and Johnson cynics, would somebody care to tell me who bought Carle in the first place. Now, if he was sold so that he wouldn't give competition to LJ, it surely infers that Johnson bought him hoping he'd be crap, then panicked when he was actually reasonably good.

The thing is......he's been their best player and is up among the goals (goals we are missing)

should never been sold, if only Warnock had rated LJ, for some reason though he showed no interested.

Wow - they sub their best player in virtually every game. I see he came off after 46 minutes yesterday. Perhaps they were saving him for their next game - they come around so quickly this time if year.

what's you point? so he got subbed? And? many players get subbed week in, week out? seriously? what's you point? personally I think it is good to have a manager who is willing to sub a player if he is playing badly.

Regardless though he's been very effective this season for them, and already scored more goals at this Level than Lee Johnson ever has, but hey, why have a attacking midfielder who can actually score goals when we can have Lee Johnson who.......does......um......answers on a postcard.

The point, which you so clearly keep missing, is that he doesn't ever ever ever (3 evers for effect so you don't miss it) complete 90 minutes. He has now been dropped from the Aussie squad. He clearly isn't playing well - yet you, and others, insist that he would be the answer to all our problems. The evidence, yes I'm sorry to use evidence, suggests otherwise. In any event, he's gone - fall in love with another player. So he's scored 3 goals - big deal - one less than Kevin Phillips - perhaps Birmingham should buy him and play him up front and release Phillips?

And if you can't see what LJ brings to the team then I suggest you open your eyes and watch - make notes of everything and then read it back after the game.
