What A Difference A Week Makes

Isnt it funny, this time last week we were still annoyed at being beaten by Cardiff. Not so much annoyed by loosing, it was more the way in which we lost that got to me and many others.

Then a few days later we play Carlisle in the Carling Cup, expecting to bounce back from our defeat at Cardiff and see a good performance from the team and show that Cardiff was just a blip. So what happens? We put in what could quite possibly the worst display from a City side in recent years and a 2-0 defeat when we should be looking forward to the 3rd round.

You only had to look on this forum on Thursday and Friday and you would think that we were certain for relegation, the squad falling apart and a manager who looks like he has lost the fans backing and is sure to the sacked soon from what some people on here were saying!

Then Saturday comes and a game against Middlesbrough who have just come down from the Premier League, started the season pretty well and yet to concede a goal. Gary Johnson says they are the best team in the Championship and its gonna be a big test for us. Things dont look promising!!

So then we go out and put in a strong all round display against a decent looking Boro side and Nicky Maynard grabs himself a couple of goals and a glance at the table sees us just 1 point off the top spot in 5th place. Things dont look so bad after all.....

.....then tonight looking on the forum it looks as if we are about to sign Evander Sno and the fans who were lucky enough to see him in action at Ashton Gate when we played Ajax are saying he put in one of the best performances from a player seen at Ashton Gate for many a year and he could quite well be one of the biggest signings we could possibly (realistically) make.

This time last week it was doom and gloom.... tonight things are looking up and everything is rosey!

What a difference a week makes!

Yep, sums it up.

There are far too many posters on this forum that are incapable of seing the bigger picture, and can only base their assessments on BCFC on the most recent result. After the Carlisle game, the writing was on the wall for Johnson, we were getting relegated, we'd gone backwards with our summer transfers.... now a few days later, everything is rosy again aftter a great result. This is why I dont really post much on this forum.

And the week prior was optimism following the unbeaten start & NM's goals, it's obvious the Carlisle game was a blip.

For me the big difference was that against Boro we had the players available to be able to revert to 3-5-2 following the 4-3-3 shambles at Cardiff and the hotch-potch of formations we played in the second half against Carlisle.

To me the main thing is Johnson going to bring in some more quality to the side.

Which I was wondering if he was, or going to wait till xmas.

Had we not had a few poor games you never know he mite have left it.

Championship top scorers (after 5 games):

Chopra (Cardiff) 7

Ameobi (Newcastle) 4

Johnson (Middlesbrough) 4

Maynard (Bristol City 4)

This is nice viewing as well. In recent years we haven't seen our players in the goalscoring lists even at this early stage.
