Frome Red
First choice ? I'm going with Gerken less mistakes + long term
miloemily
i'll second that, but quality back up in basso though.
leobcfc1
I'm sure Gerken's mainly the fans first choice now after keeping us in a few games this season including today.
deadratinmycider
Gerken for me. Basso is 34 now, and even if he decides to stay we will be looking for a new number one anyway in a couple of seasons. Bar a couple of mistakes, that goes with the territory of being a keeper, Gerken has been first class for me.
westonred
Gerken wants to play for us Basso obviously doesnt otherwise he would have signed his contract, so its Deano all the way for me
Big Red Rich
Deano without a shadow of a doubt.
silverfox
Deano without a shadow of a doubt. And it's Deano for me too. Like others, was worried he'd been put back in the firing line too early today, but sounds as if he came up trumps. Radio Bristol commentators raved about his double save in the second half. Looking forward to hearing about those, and his play in general when our fans get back.
numbeast
I still have great admiration for Adriano Basso and think there is little or no difference between him and Dean Gerkin so, for the time being we're in a very good position for keepers but my number 1 choice would be Gerkin. He's younger than Basso with little difference as I have said but I think he will improve whereas Basso will start to decline in the next year or two. Already Basso is suffering niggling injuries such as the one today and that will only get worse.
Ryan_BCFC
Gerken is my first choice he has proven hes our number 1, and today was sumthing else, but basso is a good back up and has also proven hes a quality keeper. But in my opinon gerken is an outstanding keeper and one of the best in the championship
Ron
On today's showing it'd take some keeper to get Gerken out of that goal, he was magnificent, best player on the park. Even Harper managed to have a flap in comparison to faultless Deano.
dezgimed
Shouldnt be an issue. Gerken came in, was amazing, got ill, now he's back, is amazing still.
Big Jon
Dean Gerken all the way younger and faster Basso is good back up now as he gets to many injurys

Basso is playing for personal pride now, but he shows continued professionalism on the pitch and in training. Gerken however, is really hungry to forge a career with us, and that, combined with his obvious ability, are mightily attractive qualities. simonwheeler
Dean Gerken for me also. The better all round keeper and less prone to injuries!!!!!!!!!
bartolona
Gerken for me, quality keeping today!
Northern Red
Didn't go today but I've been impressed with Gerken each time I've seen him, and it sounds like he had another blinder. GJ gets some stick about certain signings he's made (rightly so in some cases), but he's unearthed an absolute gem here by the looks of things. Father Jacki
Deano first with Bass running a very close second. Great position to be in at the moment cos they are both superb right now excellent No1 &

awilko
Def Gerken, one thing i noticed aswell yesterday apart from his great saves is that he hangs onto shots alot more than Basso who often spills them or trys to push them away

Bris Red
My word 19 fans in agreement! what is this strange and foreign forum?? You will have to make that 20 fans in agreement! Given Deanos age and what he has shown so far he just edges it IMO. Great to have quailty like Basso as back up thou.
Nibor
Gerken - committed to the club and more of a future anyway due to age. Basso is better but a year from now he won't be.
redredrobin21
Gerken on the basis that he has done nothing wrong, had another fine game yesterday and if it aint broke don't fix it.

Ray White
At the moment I'd have Gerken over Basso simply because his kicking is much better. In the long term, with the guidance of Stuart Naylor, Deano can become a very very good goalkeeper for us.
Jesus
Deano 2000000000000000000000000000000000000000% he was brilliant yesterday.
Guest DanC
Was Basso actually injured? From what I have heard from GJ to me it seems more like he wasn't fired up for the game or looked disinterested in what was a massive game so GJ replaced him but had to say he was injured in order to make the change. I thought that too. Strange comments by GJ. As for the answer to the original question it is a complete no brainer - Gerkin is our Numero Uno. From what I have heard from GJ to me it seems more like he wasn't fired up for the game or looked disinterested in what was a massive game so GJ replaced him but had to say he was injured in order to make the change. He was grimacing after the warm up and holding his groin. GJ asked him if he was OK and he admitted he'd hurt himself warming up. Boring but true.
