22A
I've watched this annual tournament for the last three years on Sky. It's the Home Nations Championship for the under 16 age group. Last night was Scotland v England which we won 2-1 and with it the Championship again. It was interesting to note that 1. the kids don't hoof the ball, but actually play it out of defence. 2. everyone is already on the books of a club and with the English & Scots kids, it's nearly all Prem teams. The best two Scots last night are not Scottish! The eligibility rules allow you to play for whichever of the 4 countries you've been educated in for at least 5 years. Mohammed Yaqub worked the ball out of defence and passed to Islam Faruz whose shot went narrowly past the English post. Islam is a Somalian but has lived in Glasgow for the last 7 years. He is on the books of Celtic who traditionally only sign Catholics. As I said I've watched for the last three years and this season's crop of 14 & 15 year olds of all 4 nations give me much hope for the future of British football.
