BUBBLE RELAXED FOR REPLAY

Posted on: Wed 13 Jan 2010 The bubble restrictions have been relaxed for City's FA Cup third round replay visit to Cardiff City next week.

Fans will be able to travel independently to the match on Tuesday, January 19th at the new Cardiff City Stadium.

However, fans must still purchase match vouchers in advance, which must be exchanged for match tickets at Cardiff West Services (Junction 33, M4) between 6.15pm and 7pm on the day of the game.

All coaches and minibuses that arrive at Cardiff West Services will then be escorted on to the stadium. Fans travelling by car will be free to travel on to Cardiff independently once they have collected their tickets.

Fans are advised against using the train, as they will still be required to get to Cardiff West Services between 6.15pm and 7pm - and Cardiff Central station is a 13-mile round trip.

Group managing director Doug Harman told bcfc.co.uk: "It's a step in the right direction and we welcome this initiative from Cardiff City.

"If everything goes smoothly then we can certainly use it as a precedent going forwards. I think we accept that the league game against Cardiff (on January 26th) will be bubble for their supporters, but certainly from next season onwards we are hopefully of being able to get away from the bubble.

"If you don't make steps to break the cycle, we'll never get the restrictions lifted, so I would urge fans heading over for the replay next week to act responsibly - as I am sure they would anyway - and not risk spoiling lots of hard work that has gone into this."

The club has been allocated 2,000 tickets. Tickets are priced £20 for adults, £15 for senior citizens/students and £5 for under-16s. Disabled supporter tickets are priced £20 (carer free).

CATS coaches will depart Ashton Gate at 5pm, with seats costing £13.

Match voucher/tickets will be available to season card holders and members ONLY from 9am tomorrow. Memberships can still be purchased from the ticket office, priced £20.

Fans are advised that parking is available on site at Cardiff City's stadium, priced £5.

What a waste of time..cant go by train, still have to be escorted in, don't get tickets until you get to the stasi checkpoint at cardiff west..either get rid of the bloody bubble or don't.

Yeh you can, get luch time train, few beers in city centre! book taxi in advance to pick you up from pub and take you to services.

The main thing I hated about the bubble was that it took 2 hours to get there, No toilets on the coach and I felt like a prisonor, Now I can make the short trip accross then bridge which with a few mates will be cheaper than us all paying for coaches and then can drive to the stadium. Getting home will also be a lot faster for me as then I wont have to go via Ashton Gate.

I appreciate that they are obviously making an effort to rid us of the bubble, however i'm not sure why it is neccesary for them to make us go all the way to Cardiff Gate services to pick up tickets. I see no problem from any security aspect to have a centralised collection point i.e. in the foyer of Cardiff Central station.

Their argument may be that it would encourage people to hang around the town centre drinking, although Cardiff fans don't drink in the centre of Cardiff before games so can't imagine that there would be any more chance of a clash than there is with this current method.

uh yes they do, in the gatekeeper, prince of Wales, great western and any other pub around the train station.

Not sure what us fans based in Cardiff are suppose to do regarding getting to the game, if anyone fancies sharing a taxi from the town centre to Cardiff west services let me know.

Nowhere does it say you have to collect your own ticket at the services just the voucher is exchanged at the services.

Anyone wanting to go by train just arrange someone who you know going by road to pick up your tickets then meet them outside the ground.

No chance of a friendly pre match drink. No green credentials.

How do they expect to hand out potentially 2000 tickets in 45 minutes? Last night it took me 2 hours to get accross Bristol so if Cardiff is anything like Bristol for traffic then potentially only having 45 minutes to travel to the ground could be a issue if your driving to the game.

This is a farse... ok most that would go looking for trouble wouldn't drive so they've irradiated that group but I don't drive and none of my friends nearby are city fans that do drive (at uni) for me it's coach or bust, unless alot of us book get together i don't really want the privilege of drinking in the city centre if it costs the same as drinking in bristol then getting the coach to get my ticket.

It's already going to cost an extra £20 to arrange a membership

Similar to government policy, on the surface of things a step forwards, dig deeper and nothings changed for some

How do you work that out?

If it was a bubble you would have to get to AG some time in the afternoon, get the coach to the services, hang around there for ages, then get taken to the ground way before k.o. You can still do that if you want.

Or, if you're driving you can leave when you want, pop in at the services to get your ticket, make your own way to the ground and then leave when you want and not have to go via AG.

Not true to say its not been thought through either - its been thought through very carefully to make it feasible for fans to make their own way to the game, but discourage them from going by train and having a few beers. Not an ideal situation, but does seem a fairly decent compromise between free-ish travel arrangements & preventing trouble.

So unless we drive.... nothing has changed

Exactly..

Whats the problem with not being able to have a drink anyway?........

I hope this is the start of the end for the restrictions although I have a feeling the hand has been forced a bit and if more time was available the authorities would have kept the restrictions in place

I Also think that the Cardiff wont really give a toss about "behaving" so that future bubbles are lifted as they are restricted on away travel anyway so I will not be surprised if we have to "run the gauntlet" in the car park afterwards as before

hope not .....but leopards and changing spots and all that
