Petition On Saturday

After this weeks announcement regarding the town green, it is more vital than ever to get as many City fans signing the petition. This weekends home game is effectively the last chance to get signatures before the march on the 2nd of October following the Norwich game.

We need people to sign the petition if you havent done already, and we also need volunteers to help collect the signatures. If you are available tomorrow to help out, can you email me on marie@bristolcityst.org.uk and let me know. If you haven't signed the petition then please come and find one of us tomorrow, we'll be around from about 1pm onwards.

If you aren't coming to the game tomorrow and still need to sign the petition then you can click on the link at the top of the forum.

More details will be announced soon regarding the handing over of the petition to the council on the 2nd of October.

Always happy to sign DM, will see you tomorrow!

And don't forget, you still sign the petition online:

While this petition is asking the Council to look favourably on Sainsbury's revised application, it can also help to sway their minds when they have to decide how to react to the inspector's report on the Village Green issue. The more evidence they have in front of them that thousands and thousands of people want this twin development to go ahead, the more justified they will surely feel in disregarding the report.

So please sign the petition online or at the match tomorrow and pass the link around to everyone you know:

We are currently at around 8,500 signatures - it would be nice to 10,000 by the end of the weekend!

Is this a petition against the decision regarding Sainsburys or a petition about the village green thing?

Sainsbury Geoff.

Things are unfolding all the time, so don't be surprised if another petition or some sort of mass support mechanism isn't launched alongside for the Village Green fiasco.

To bring everyone up to date with what the Trust is doing, below is the text of an e-mail sent out last night to everyone on our database:

As you'll be aware, the adverse 'Village Green' report is a significant hurdle that needs to be overcome in order to make City's new stadium a reality.

It is quite bizarre that a site of over 40 acres can be designated a 'village green'. However, the report that says it fulfils the legal requirements for that status is just that - a report. It's not a definitive decision or even a recommendation. Just a report for the Council to consider. We now need to give the Council the confidence to reject the crazy notion of designating the site, much of which was formerly a rubbish tip, a 'village green'.

We can do this right now in two ways:

1. Take your last chance this weekend - if you've not done so already - to sign the petition asking the Council to look favourably on Sainsbury's revised application for Ashton Gate. This can be done online here.

2. Look out for our petition "Bristol wants a new stadium - not a 'village green'!" in paper form at Ashton Gate on Saturday and online from early next week (we'll send you the link as soon as it goes live).

Please be sure to show the Council how strong the support is for this twin development by signing both petitions and encouraging all of your family and friends to do likewise. We need the Council to know how unpopular it would be if they chose to designate the new stadium site as a 'village green', thus scuppering the new stadium, the Ashton Gate redevelopment and any hopes of the city staging World Cup football as well.

Volunteers

Thanks to everyone who has helped with collecting petition signatures to date. Once again we are looking for help tomorrow. If you can spare some time before the game, please look out for us from 1.30pm at any of the following locations:

Winterstoke Road entrance (top priority this time)

Dolman entrance from park - park side of new shop outlet

Williams entrance from park - outside shop near Evening Post van

If the weather is bad, petition boards can be collected from inside the entrance of the Supporters Club - near the Dolman Exhibition Hall entrance.
