Steve Watts
Is anyone heading towards Yate after the meet tomorrow who could offer me a lift home? Not sure if I can make it yet, but would be nice to know that I've got a way of getting home that's not going to cost an arm and a leg if i do make it! ziderman
Download A4 version: http://www.bsthree.c...Stadium5_A4.gif I like this one. This is what they said when Sainsbury's move to their present sight from St Catherines Parade ( what is now a YMCA charity shop ) , time has proved them wrong. Barrs Court Red
Pip sheard said ""We all have a lot better things to do in BS3 than to keep opposing Sainsbury's, like helping local businesses on North St and East St thrive." I'd get a hobby love, maybe learn a foreign language, maybe do abit of traveling. The worlds your oyster
Fiale
Bedminster was in downward decline until Asda opened, large free parking, somewhere to drop of your items/get you weekly shop and then people wonder of to the other shops to get the more specific items that the super stores do not do - or just to have a nose around. East street would be a ghetto if Asda had not help with the regeneration, it also then paved the way for Argos to move in and take advantage of footfall..... Aldi did the same (to a lesser extent in North Street (just look at how many park there and wonder straight off up North Street), Sainsbury's will only help specialized stores flourish - not kill them. Don't forget the original Sainsburys store only opened 15-20 years ago too. Oh and there used to be a Tesco on East Street, but we'll not mention that either
Red
Even SL is flying in from Guernsey tomorrow for the meeting, so this shows how important it is for supporters to turn up. http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/news/LL-8211-CITY-CHIEF/article-3277430-detail/article.html
NOTR
Just heard lib dem leader on the radio talking about a proposed new multi media centre that may be coming to bristol. She said it would be great news for bristol, especially the new jobs that would be created, many of these in the constuction industry. You couldn't make it up,middle class media type jobs yippee, ordinary every day jobs no way. I wonder if she is lying, in the EP one of the arguments put forward by anti Stadium and Sainsbury's peeps is that there will not be 'new jobs that would be created, many of these in the constuction industry' but only 80 (how 80 people are going to build a Store and Stadium I have no idea) - now we are talking about a media centre I guess the numbers go up (maybe it's a build quality issue ). Anyway, how many times have we heard this, do these sound familiar ? A CHARITY consortium which was to build a pounds 93m arts centre that would have transformed Bristol's waterfront is planning to sue the beleaguered Arts Council for pounds 2m after declaring the latter "unfit" to handle lottery money. The Harbourside Centre on Bristol docks was to be a spectacular all-glass arts centre with three concert halls and a 2,300-seat auditorium funded partly by a pounds 58m grant of lottery money. However, the Arts Council withdrew its offer of the grant last year and the project collapsed. The charity consortium, comprising Bristol City Council and local businesses, now claims that the council has also "reneged" on an earlier pledge to pay the pounds 4.3m cost of designing and developing the project before building began. The charity, Harbourside Centre, says the Arts Council has paid just pounds 2m of the development costs which leaves it owing pounds 2.25m to the German designer of the project, Stefan Behnisch, the engineering group Ove Arup and a number of Bristol companies Plans for a music arena in Bristol were scrapped because the Development Agency involved had spent almost two million dollars on offices abroad. The ten thousand seater arena was due to open later but plans were abandoned when costs got too high The controversial supertram project for the north of Bristol is to be officially dropped. The city's cabinet, meeting on 8 June, will be asked to formally end the council's promotion of the first stage of the project. The tram had been intended for the north of the city, linking Parkway Station with the city centre. Several routes that could be used for other kinds of rapid transit or public transport schemes will be safeguarded. Work will also continue with neighbouring authorities on a new Greater Bristol transport study. The results of this study would be brought forward for possible inclusion in new regional and sub-regional strategies and the updated Local Transport Plan when it is reviewed in 2005. Council leader Barbara Janke said: "Of course it would be sad to see the end of the ambitious scheme to deliver a tram link in the north of the city. "However, we need to be realistic and honest with people about its viability in the light of recent government statements and our own financial situation How many Tram projects we had two or three - all studies, reports, planning we have spent millions and have zilch to show for it. There are many more projects that never have seen the light of day - if we got what was promised then this city would be leading edge with all the infrastructure, arts, social, entertainment buildings we would have had built in the late 1990's-2005

Mr Mosquito
How many Tram projects we had two or three - all studies, reports, planning we have spent millions and have zilch to show for it. Bristol had a world class open top electric tram system up until 1941 when it was bombed. 70 years on and Bristol Council still have not got it back up and running. The likelihood of a decent sports stadium is thus zero if we leave it to the council. If you want a decent sports stadium for Bristol then the only hope is to back Steve Lansdown and his Ashton Vale project to the hilt. Selling Ashton Gate to Sainsbury's is part of the project, the NIMBYs must be defeated tomorrow.

The piece of tram rail that landed in St.Mary's Redcliffe and stuck in the ground is probably going to be the only tram track we will ever see in Bristol - personally I don't mind (it seemed expensive for what was on offer), but it's the promises, and announcements that just never get delivered that annoys me. Murraysrightplum
Excellent work everyone involved in the placard making. However can I just say that turning the argument into a class war is a bit wrong IMO. Just because someone is middle class doesn't mean they support the lib dems/greens/delis on North Street etc. There is a risk of alienating supporters of the new stadium just because some people have a class 'chip on their shoulder' For example Steve Lansdown is middle class... Fireman Sam
The biggest thing that annoys me is The older generation just want to walk around these little shops (Which are closing down, anyway. And that has nothing to do with Sainsburys or City! That is just the way of the world and the changing future!) Because they have so much time on their hands, they just want to walk the streets browsing, and passing the time by. We the younger generation, who do not have all the time in the world just want to get down the local supermarket where everything is. You don't have to try and find some side street where the house residents get pis*y with you because you are parked outside their houses! And get our goods and go home ASAP and get on with our busy Lives.

Sargent Pepper
Does anyone know where we are with the TVG situation. Did anything come out of the mediation talks? Are they still ongoing? I only ask because the way the club is hyping Tonights meeting (with SL in attendance for the 1st time during this process etc) it seems this is all important. Obviously I know it is financially. It would just be a bit off if in a months time this all happens again for the village green hearing
