Abraham Romanovich
Just like to point out that the patron Saint of England was born in Syria. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_George I mean what are the chances of some middle eastern bloke being called George all sounds a bit dodgy to me. Matty-H
Not meaning to sound pedantic, but it's not St George's Day. Due to the close proximity to Easter, it is May 2nd this year

Greedo
I for one can't stand St George's day, all a bit too nationalistic and often bigoted for my liking.
Philip Belgrave
I for one can't stand St George's day, all a bit too nationalistic and often bigoted for my liking. Really ? Is a natural pride in one's own country and an affection for its history and traditions bound to be bigoted ?
Greedo
Really ? Is a natural pride in one's own country and an affection for its history and traditions bound to be bigoted ? Perhaps but from my own personal experience, the day can be a stimulus for too much 'natural pride'.
Philip Belgrave
Perhaps but from my own personal experience, the day can be a stimulus for too much 'natural pride'. I take your point. I suppose it depends upon your definition of "natural pride"'. Can one equate English patriotism with support for CITY, perhaps ? A fan can show pride and affection for the team without necessarily abusing, putting-down, denigrating and verbally putting the boot into rival sides such as Cardiff or even the gas . Or can he ? The Red Planet
Just seen two guys on the White Tree roundabout (Downs) fully decked out in St George regalia and both waving St George's flags. Lots of cars hooting as they came past. Good for them.

Slave to the rhythm
Do you feel the same way when the Irish, Scots and Welsh celebrate their National Day ? Speaking personally, I can't stand any so-called "national days". Total waste of time. And as for the so-called "Royal wedding"...............what a f_uc_king waste of time, money and effort. Matty-H
Do a quick Google search. St Georges Day is May 2nd this year. Fact.
The Gasbuster
Not to the same extent, but of course that could pertain to the fact that I do not reside in any of their respective countries. The Irish community in this country seem to put a lot of time, effort and money into celebrating Patrick's Day here. There are never accusations of "Nationalism" when this happens, but simply the idea of them "having a good time". The same should apply for England's Day, without the need to justify it.
