Season Ticket Renewal

Plus ten of us,7.30 train.

I think that maybe that is now one of the problems. One by one the lads i used to go with have stopped going and so the laugh is not there either any more. If it was the football would probably still be bearable.

For me it is the scenery and meeting up with good honest football fans before and after the game that makes it worth going. All over the country. City away games every second time preferably. If I had a strict interest in watching football I would go elsewhere. For the time being. We could and should do so much better!!

Renew, can't wait to see what the new manager brings! New start, I get the feeling it will be as magical a start as GJ had!

I don't think GJ had a particularly magical start did he? Was it 9 losses? Admittedly it got better from there on, and we slowly began to look a much better side. Which is, I guess what you, and the rest of us are hoping for!

Oh, and renew of course!

I will be renewing on day one if weve got 40 pts on the board looking safe or if we are in deep doo doo.

For a few hours on a saturday afternoon nothing else matters. Work, last nights argument with the wife, everyday stress, it all goes out the window.

Theres nothing else in the world (thats legal) which can put you in such a state of mind.

Well worth the 18 quid.

I mean, his first full season led to a promotion! :)

Saturday =football, wether watching or playing, and in a preverse way I quite enjoy the hard times,as it does make the good times even better. So I will be renewing no question.I think some people on here should join the ranks of plastic mancs, cockneys and scousers, they obviously can't handle losing more than they win.

Yep your right Saturday = Football, for me it will be watching my 2 boys play in their first season in senior football. After 30 years following City I have had enough!

Enough excuses

enough shite football

enough wishing I was somewhere else

I have now come to the impression we are still watching Millens team, no creativity, no chance of scoring, no entertainment, shite football full of prima donnas who think they are better than they are

Sorry, but thats it for me!

I stopped due to cost a few years ago. So did 3 other family members. Go 6 times a year at most as POTD. The game i use to love has become something else that i don't relate to that much anymore. The guys who play the game do not seem to be like the players of old. Football is not like the game of old. It has been hijacked by money and greed for many years now. I lost interest in watching the stars play long ago. In-fact they make me sick. Not sure what sort of people the stars are, but not the kind i would love to go out with a drink for. Maybe it will change and go back to want it once was when the football bubble bursts. If it ever does!

Add £10 petrol x 30 games a season = £300 and £10 x 30 food programme etc £300 straight away that is a grand and other costs involve it is a expensive outlay. I actually measured it that i would spend nearer £1300 a year or more.

£1500 is a nice outlay for some decent last minute holidays. or I could get a nice 2 or 3 week holiday in places like Thailand for that.

I am refusing to part with my hard earnt cash for boredom. The fun I used have is gone, the football has got worse and worse (that is just not us, that is football in general) The camaraderie you used to have with the players is gone, they are almost untouchable now. The atmosphere in these soulless stadiums are a disgrace, the atmosphere inside AG is a disgrace. The cost is too much. The only thing that I can think of that would keep me going is mates who go, and to be honest many of them are thinking the same way.

Following for the sake of following because you have always done it is fine, I used to think like that, but for me the excitement has gone, I want something in my life to look forward to, and for the past 6 or 7 seasons going to the gate has been a chore more than enjoyment, even in our promotion and playoff season.

Maybe I am just falling out of love with football in general!

Agree entirely, I'll probably renew for my own perverse reasons, but sat there on tues , freezing, thinking 'that's nice' when we scored , wondering what it was that made me drive half way round the country midweek with my poor suffering kids in tow a few years back , feeling completely thrilled by the prospect and enjoying every minute there and back, whereas now I'm apologetic , in that I still drag them along in a 'this is what we do' kind of way.

Not sure I can explain it, I'll buy the tickets in the misguided belief that the team will come good and once again give me the feeling that we're all a unit fighting for the same thing, but I know those days are gone, and whether it be the obvious self interest of the players or the relentless crassness of the Ciy PR department emailing me with their latest not to be missed, I've already got one thanks , offer, I'm not sure how much longer I can carry on convincing myself that things are about to change. One more season I guess. And possibly the next one.

I've been down the same road as you reddoc. Dragging the family along. There comes a point where they are old enough to question why they are following you - and that's the point at which we couldn't justify renewing their tickets, or mine. So we didn't renew this year, having only watched a handful of matches with our STs last season. And I'm very glad we didn't throw our money away. Now we watch for results, wish the team well from afar and pick and choose the games we attend, which are as likely to be away as home.

The bottom line is that Bristol City is in the entertainment business...something which seems to have been forgotten at Ashton Gate. For all the emails and phone calls I received encouraging me to buy a half season there's nothing happening at the club which suggests that the club is doing more than marking time until a) Derek sorts the squad out and b) the stadium resolves itself. What's on offer is a seat in a clapped out stadium watching a struggling and characterless group of not particularly talented men...cheerlessly doing something which they are very lucky to be paid a fortune to do.

Unless you live around the corner and walk to matches the time and effort spent attending is considerable...as TRL points out. In recent years my family has spent - cumulatively - weeks doing nothing but travelling to watch City. We spent thousands every year. When that ceases to be entertaining you have to question the point of it all. Which we did.

We will all be renewing in our group for sure. It's not the worst times we have seen down the gate. Not by a long shot. We sit in the east end... Championship football £250?! Be stupid not too!

I wanna be there when it all changes and we have an amazing season

No chance, got far more interesting things to do with my life than sit watching city put in good, indifferent and bad performances. if the cost dropped to 15 quid a game maybe i would have a change of heart, but with petrol costs, cost of ticket or season ticket, cost of food and drink and the quality of fair on offer, the Club can go and jump for my hard earned cash.

I will pick and choose in future, I can think of far better things to do than hear bile from our own supporters towards our players or manger, or watch mediocre passionless football.

I have followed this club through thick and thin and I am aout to say something I thought I would never say....

I'm bored with it all. The atmosphere, the turgid football, the same old soundbites from the board, the same old build up to a season only for promises to be broken. I'm fed up with the lot of it. My money will now be spent going on 2 or 3 holidays a year, at least i am getting some entertainment for my money. If I wanted to pay for torment and pain I would go and pay a dominatrix, hopefully for a short time there I might have something decent to watch before the pain came!

I will certainly be renewing.

This season I paid £375 for my B block Dolman season ticket, which works out at £16.30 per game - which I think is pretty decent value.

Not sure why £15 per game would swing the balance of renewing for anyone..?!

My lifelong love of football has been in steady decline for a while, and took a massive dip during the 2010 World Cup. The only team that really thrilled me were the Japanese!! For over 20 years, shift work/working weekends/kids etc meant I couldn't get a s/t but I have had one now for a few years and I never thought I could go back to not being a s/t holder, but I find myself wondering why I am bothering more and more frequently.

Having watched City in all 4 divisions, I am certainly no glory hunter, but the soul of the game seems to have been sucked out by commercialism/tv deals/agents etc. as well as mercenary players earning small fortunes and driving fantasy motors whilst delivering mediocre performances on the pitch.

I am undecided whether I will renew. The social aspect of going to watch City is still a big pull having made so many very good friends over the years, but the matches are the least appealing part of the day!! I do understand the reluctance to renew, whether it is a financial consideration, or just out of desperation at the state of the game.

I know that I could never watch another club without anything like the same affection, at the minute I am genuinely undecided. It's not a good feeling, that's for sure!!!

I'll almost certainly renew. I always dither but in the end always do.

The only thing that might stop me is economic factors. I calculated over the New Year that our joint household earnings declined by 45% in 2011 but our bills grew by 19%. Cheers for that Cammy, you Spam-faced tosspot.

It would be nice if there was a loyalty bonus reducing the cost to reward long-term ST holders like me.

I totally agree with you andy - Its the state of the whole game!

No swearing allowed!

Players being to big for clubs ie Nicky Maynard. A few years ago, city fans would have turned and given maynard stick. Now he's "only excercising his right" to screw the club over...... I suppose it cant be helped now the middle class people of this country now love the game...

Plus you see this at the weekend

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHXTKUHneCw

Thats ^^^ not even a foul - but apparently in todays game it is?! It might aswell be a non-contact sport?!

You get yellow cards given here there and everywhere.... and some are for stupid things like tripping a player.....

Football aint what it once was....

My interest in football has declined rapidly over the last few years. My love for City, despite some depressing times, will never wane.

The only football I watch now is City, not even MOTD. Plus, theres too much of it on tele.

I get frustrated watching though - the diving, time-wasting, foul-play, atmosphere, prices, lack of multi-ball, diving, - I will make every attempt to renew.

Hate football - love City.

I genuinely feel sorry for anyone that really has had enough, especially if this has been after many years of support.

However having read that some of the most negative posters on here are not renewing if this improves the atmosphere at games and support for the team I am looking forward to getting another season ticket more than ever!

I doubt it will make one iota of difference. For instance I like to moan on here sometimes, sometimes I praise, some times I agree, sometimes I disagree. But while at the Gate watching the team I support, if it is going wrong and we are abysmal I stay quiet, then bitch and moan to mates on the way home.

A bad atmosphere at the ground does no one any favours.

I will not be going next season, but you will not be losing a moaner from the actual ground, just someone that supported.

Given that a lot of the people commenting on this thread are Eastenders and are repeatedly commented upon on OTIB as the bastions of City support, suggested by some as responsible for the atmosphere or lack of atmosphere, depending on the match/opposition/situation at the club, it will hardly improve support. Whichever way you spin it, you do not get a sustained positive and hearty support at ANY club when the football is poor.

Negative posters as TRL eloquently expressed it, are not necessarily negative supporters at the matches, but my view is that if someone wants to express their dissatisfaction, it is entirely their right to do so, having paid good money to watch City.

Cant agree with that mate. Millwall atmosphere was not up to it but forest boro southampton burnley reading were good even very good and the football was awful for a couple. Read the EE forum and the attitude is different than otib. new flags and a flag day for the next home match being organised.
