The Greatest Myth Ever.the Premier League!

We are told every day by someone that the Premier League is " the best league in the world".

After the World Cup 2010I thought people would finally realise that was not true.

In WC2010 I struggled to find any players from the Prem who shined.

Surely the Euros must know show what a myth the prem is, if it was the BLITW would not all 4 semi finalist be packed full of prem league talent?

Just how many Prem players are in the starting line ups for the best 4 teams in Europe?

IMO, it's everything that's wrong with the English game, some of our England team are on 100k a WEEK and they can't pass the fn ball 15 yards.

The whole structure and money in our game needs looking at.

Why don't the FA give every club a few million £ and say that money MUST be spent on English youth talent.

Instead we just give millions to overseas average players who are laughing all the way to the bank!

Correct, and when players actually do become world class in the prem, they pretty quickly bugger off to Spain!

That should tell you all you need to know.

There is a big difference in most exciting to watch and the best league. I think people have a muddled judgment between the two.

How come english clubs have the best overall performance in the champions league over the last ten years.

Ok Barcelona and Madrid are streets ahead in theory but who has their name on the cup at the moment.and most people round the world would bet on a mid table prem team to beat mid table opposition from any other league.

So i disagree the prem is inferior. I totally agree it does very little for team england though. In fact it ruins development of our players...many of whon cant get a game.

Said as much under the Cardiff thread its 1 massive piss take from the top down just reading how Cardiff's board have sold out is sickening money and sheer greed .England hasn't 1 world class player in the squad some average players and total donkeys we had a brief flourish in the 90,s Gazza and Hoddle could be called Footballers thrashing Germany and Holland 2 semi-finals where we were plain unlucky.......... Sven had his moments since then f#@k all Crappello £6.000.000 for doing what ???? The only player with any pride for his country was David Beckham as for that scouse con artist Rooney sum's up the England set up plays like a 3rd tier donkey gets sent off, unfit, over hyped rather have a young Shearer or Lineker any day..............................Still this new England training centre ST Georges is suppose to be starting a new breed of player given 10 to 15 years to develop Trevor Brooking and Gareth Southgate involved doing a revamp of ball skills, smaller pitches, shorter matches ect........The German's rebuilt really like their style of play the shots from yards out that ping in or at least are on target love to see England play like that we can't do the Latin football and running, effort, huff and puff is never going to win anything ,the basics of finding your man , shooting on target (not scuffing or blasting high and wide) keeping the ball under pressure taking the ball down in 1 movement, not just aimless punts in the air towards goal........The Premier League has destroyed England and ruined several league clubs with its selfish me.me,me attitude ....

The Premier League really is unexciting imo. Apart from last season, it is nearly always wrapped up before the end, you can predict most results and 15 of the clubs have no chance of getting any sort of success. The Championship is a million times ahead in terms of excitement tbh.

It is the most exciting to watch no doubt. However in terms of actual quality it is miles behind La Liga.

La Liga is very overrated, I liken it to the SPL of recent years. Barcelona and Real Madrid are very good but the rest of the teams lag way behind. This years top 5:

Real Madrid 100 pts

Barcelona 91 pts

Valenica 61 pts

Malaga 58 pts

Atletic Madrid 56 pts

There is a 30 point gap between second and third!!!!!! The Premier League is more competitive, I would be interested to see how good Messi would look if he played in the Premier League. One thing is for sure, he would not score as many goals as he did this season.

Simple question, which leagues are better then?

As someone has already said English teams performance in the Champions League over the past 10 years has been exceptional.

You could maybe make an argument for La Liga, but the quality undoubtedly dips significantly after Barca/Real. Valencia who finished third this season went out in Champs League group stage and are in massive financial trouble. Ok so both Manc clubs also went out but for two teams to go out is very unusual based on recent years. Arsenal ALWAYS get past the group stage.

Bottom line is that the Premier League is a very strong league both in terms of quality and entertainment.

Real Madrid

Barca

That's Spanish football, and it's not like they havnt spent serious money to assemble their squads either.

The premier league is more diverse and challenging than la liga, sure not every side plays tippy tappy football, but hat contributes to what makes it such a difficult competition.

Really? I watched about 20 games last season that lacked any sort of excitement!

I think that Father Christmas has to get a look in when we are discussing this topic.

Hate to be the one to lay this on you but............there is no father christmas

As for this topic..Wages need to be realistic, which hopefully would stem the tide of imports into the prem,

thus freeing up more space for English players,....dunno whether it would improve the prem

but it might improve the national team !!!

Depends on your definition of 'best'. I've never taken 'best' to mean 'contains the most technically gifted teams' and I'm not sure anyone has ever tried to imply that. It's probably the most exciting of the top leagues in Europe and I would say that only the Bundesligue, Dutch Eredivisie or French Ligue 1 is more competitive, the latter 2 being no where near the same quality. I'll hold my hard up and say I enjoy watching Premier League football. Yes, the crass commercialisation is galling and the fact it cost £40+ to go to a ground is despicable (though I paid £30 to get into Doncaster; economies of scale and all that), but at the end of the day I think it's good to watch. At least in the Premier League there are now 4-5 teams capable of winning it at the outset; that's never gonna happen in Spain and even in Germany of Italy, it's probably a stretch. England has been producing athletically gifted but technically challenged footballers for years and years. The influx of foreigners should have spurred the next generation to gain more technical ability and the young players should have looked to learn from talented Jonny-Foriegner and for some reason they haven't

Spain has won the champions league more than england in the last ten and twenty years. It produces far better players v the premier league for the national side who go on to win tournaments. That makes it better.

I don't know about others, but to me Spain has been the most boring team at the Euros. I would far rather watch England. If you want to see 800 passes in a match from players who perform like automatons, that's up to you, but for me football is about passion and incident, and there was precious little of that last night until the penalties. I thought the England Italy match was entertaining, and though we were outplayed I'd rather watch a team hitting high balls to the likes of Andy Carroll, than a team that doesn't play a single striker. If what Spain is doing is progress, then count me out. I think they're killing the game as a spectacle.

different strokes for different folks, but for me, international football is all about great technique and skill, not lumping the ball to q big striker to try and win a header. its a shame jack willshire was injured. the truth is that we havent had a truely world class ball playing midfielder for decades, though bechham was really good.

The fact that the majority of Prem clubs do not expect to finish higher than 5th says it all. Just avoid relegation and he money continues to flow in.

A few years ago the German FA recommended that German clubs can go ahead and sign as many foreigners as they want BUT; for Bundesliga games there had to be a minimumof two Germans under 21 on the field at anytime. That way German youngsters would gain experience and opportunity. As they grew older clubs would hopfully retain them and produce some more youngsters. Just as in this country, the clubs ignored their FA.

Depends what you mean by best . . . .

Best players, probably not.

Excitement and pure drama, easily the best in the entire world.

Also, worth remembering that the team that finished 5th or was it 6th in the EPL WON the CL, regardless of the style of football played, that happened.

Also: Manchester United 1-6 Manchester City

Manchester Untied 8-2 Arsenal

Arsenal 5-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Chelsea 3-3 Manchester United

Chelsea 3-5 Arsenal

Just the handful off the top of my head from last season, and that's without the pure drama of what happened on the last day of the season . . . .

Some interesting views.

Can anyone tell me how many Premier league players are in the 4 best Internatiinal sides in Europe?

The 4 semi finalists in the Euros.

I think that will tell us which league has the top quality players.

10 ?
