4-4-2 Is Not The Answer

Its has to be a 4-4-3 lineup with one striker and two wingers either side. Albert plays his best when he doesn't have to come back and can constantly drive at defenses. We need to play to our strengths and this is one of them. Rather than trying to appease certain strikers by providing game time. 4-3-3 has been tried and tested successfully in pre-season so why the sudden reversion back to old school shit? Hopefully this mess will not continue during the league....

Don't read too much into tonights formation. McInnes was missing Cunningham, Kilkenny and Anderson as well as Taylor and Carey. At least 4 of those are likely to be first team regulars.

One thing is for sure. Gerkin ain't the answer.

Which 4?? Kilkenny Taylor and Carey certainly won't be.

even with 12 men we would struggle, or is Gerken so bad that we may as well play without a keeper?

We actually need a formation that doesnt include gerken, foster, fontaine, nyatanga and woolford!!! I'd take 352, 145, 325, anything without those jokes for pro footballers within it.

Woolford was alright in the first half, but dire when moved back to left back in the 2nd half. He does his best work further up the pitch.

Can't argue about Nyatanga, Fontaine and Gerkin, couldn't trap a bag of cement, let alone pass a ball.

None of them could pass a sh1t let alone a football.

How many times have I said this...line up 442 at home and you immediately hand the Phsycological and tactical advantage to the opposition...who have probably set their stall out pre-start to counter attack. It means they can immediately push an extra player into the midfeild or forward which is what Gillingham tried to do tonight.....

This is the only crumb of comfort we can take from tonight.

Gerken, Nyatanga & Skuse starting in the back 5 felt horrible prior to the game and so it was. But it got worse when Del realised he needed Skuse back in the middle for the ineffective Pearson, and it meant that Woolford went to LB. Sorry - I don't want to be a naysayer this early in the season, but if we are missing one player (Cunningham) and we have to play Gerken, Nyatanga & Woolford as 3 of your back 5 then we are in all sorts of trouble.

Thankfully, Cunningham will be back at LB on Saturday and Heaton will be in goal (hopefully). But we are crying out for a CB (as we all know). If we can't get one then please give James Wilson another crack in there and take Nyatanga to the Nyaknackers yard for shooting.

Sign M Wilson and drop Tang & Gerk and suddenly the defence looks a million times better.

Agree with all of what you've just said.
