And Its Smith
Wouldn't have been happy with this signing three months ago as don't rate him particularly highly and hoped we could sign better. Still, beggars can't be choosers and he is better than the rest.
bearded_red
Once he got match fit he was impressive for us last season. Maybe not in the eye catching way that Amougou was, but I still thought he looked an extremely solid defender. I fully expect him and Fontaine to be our two central defenders on Saturday. Red-Robbo
but who comes in? the ageing and slow carey the mastake prone and unreliable Wilson or the over-rated and not good enough nyatanga? Well either the ageing slow (but less prone to be caught out-of-position) Carey or the unreliable (but more lively than Fontaine in the games he's played this season) Wilson. If it's someone like Dawson came in that'd be utterly delightful. But whatever the switch, you just can't keep playing an out-of-form player and expecting they'll just miraculously turn themself around.
bearded_red
I think its about time Woolford made way and DM gave Anderson a chance! Woolford hasn't started the last two games. As Jordan Tansley says if we only play four across the midfield than the extra defensive protection that Wooly offers will be vital away from home against a team that are much better than the league table suggests. If we play five in midfield than Anderson will have a greater chance of starting I would have thought.

Robbored
Robbo how do you know he was available? until recently Boro had injury problems at the back and McManus was their cover, And despite that McManus has played once this season for Boro. Monkeh
And despite that McManus has played once this season for Boro. robbo look up the word COVER in the dictionary, You would send your reserve CB out on loan leaving you with only 2 fit centre backs would you? what if he came to us a mopnth ago and Bikey got injured he would of been recalled as boro would of only had 1 fit centre back, you of all people should know that or are you trolling again? And it has to be said the 'play Maynard through his crap period and he'll improve' theory didn't really work last season and we were left with the firepower up front of the Liechtenstien Navy! You'd almost think his mind was on other things...
zyderiup
Lets hope Mr McManus hits the ground running and is in good form. Oh, and doesn't get injured in his first game a la Sam Vokes, Andrius Velicka & George Elokobi. Is he really 30? Too many McEwans

InCider
Good signing to be fair. A few months ago I would not have been keen to sign another left footed centre half, think Del was thinking the same, but the way Fontaine is playing at the moment, and the limited options in the loan market for an appropriate available right centre half, Del had no choice reverting back to McManus. Have it!: I think he was unlucky to get a red there. Welcome back Stephen - we needed you!
steviestevieneville
To be honest I wasn't that impressed by him last season. That said, he can hardly perform any worse than the rest of are defenders. He was very good for us last season.
Harry
Delighted with this. Please please let us sign Dawson now! Hope we are still expecting to sign him? Or does that deal look dead now McManus has re joined? I would've thought that McManus was lined up after it became clear Dawson wouldn't be released by West Brom. Clearly Clarke feels their injury situation still warrants them keeping hold of Dawson, otherwise he'd be here. Probably a case of Dawson was 1st choice, McManus 2nd choice. However, I hope I'm wrong and that we are still after Dawson too. That would be fantastic.

Oh yes, but other than Baldock what has Derek McInnes ever done for us? He signed a new left back (Cunningham). Oh yes we know that, but other than Baldock and Cunningham what has Derek McInnes ever done for us? Well he signed a decent keeper! Yes! Yes! Red Skin
How long before he gets injured then? And what type of injury will he sustain? My guess is broken leg after slide tackle on opposition team bus leaving AG. Well he likes a late tackle.

Well I won't be satisfied until he signs a pacey, right and left sided creative first ball winning defender who can run at the opposing defence, score goals and fill in for the keeper if he gets injured - all at once..... wayne allisons tongues
Why didn't we sign McManus weeks ago? JammyOne
Out of all the defenders that we were speculated to sign, I'm glad it's McManus that we've got. A 2 year contract in the January transfer would be great!
