Long Term Project-Mcinnes

Really? Most around me are sensible enough to realise changing the manager every 12 months does help anyone.

Yes there were boos and jeers but that was more for the power puff effort by the players rather than the call to get rid of McInnes.

Agreed. I think the majority are aware that changing manager every 5 minutes isn't working.

Also, suppose we get someone in like Gary Johnson who undoes all the hard work but in by Del and staff to revamp the youth setup - what a waste that would be.

+1. Del Boy has been putting time in to make this club a more professionally ran setup (The football side) with the Backroom staff and Youth Setup. To be honest, can't really remember any manager in my time of watching City doing this.

Well said SR. Your're not alone with your view.

Other clubs, such as Blackpool and Palace cope pretty well in the Championship without spending vast amounts of dosh but City under the last 4 managers have failed to do the same. This is Citys' 3rd consequetive season of struggling in the Championship and surely Lansdown must know that in order to push on McInnes needs even more financial backing. Its obvious that no matter who the manager is City can't build a decent side with little money.

Last 3 managers, not 4. Johnson was doing just fine *until* he started spending vast amounts.

Blackpool had a manager who, like Johnson, specialises in motivating players to play a long way above themselves. They'd better hope that their new manager can do the same or they'll find themselves in our position.

McInnes has a big job on his hands now to rebuild confidence. He seems to be suffering a similar spell to that which Johnson went through in 2005. Whether or not he's been dropping hand grenades in the dressing room I don't know but he's got to replicate what Johnson did in terms of building confidence in the players. If he can do that he's got a lot more ability in the squad than Johnson ever did and can hopefully take them the extra mile.

Great honestly in part, but I like, many find it unbelievable that he couldnt find players that were obviously so very needed, instead we addressed a forward line that wasn't priority. Every successful manager regardless of profession should always prioritise, if he thinks that our strikers were priority then he was wrong, I only hope that our glaringly obvious problems are addressed NOW, the biggest problem I see is that every club now knows how much we need the players to turn our season around, expect the £££££££ to be considerably higher than they would of been in the summer, supply & demand and all that.

People are saying that strikers were not a priority but at the end of last season we were left with:

  1. Stead - good player for last season but not a prolific goalscorer

  2. Pitman - can score goals but clearly not rated by McInnes

  3. Taylor - had 2 or 3 previous starts for the club

Stead and Taylor are both good players but with both them up top I think we are just too predictable. Davies and Baldock provide teh variation.

I for one believe that if DMc had not brought in Davies and Baldock then we would be in an even more torrid position had we gone for all the same players (Keogh, Gerrard etc) and failed with all of them.

Despite this I am still in full agreement that further investment in CM and CD were needed. It is a big ask to continually ask SL for big investments but I believe that had he given DMc an extra £2m in the summer then we could have been a team fighting at the other end of the table. I have a feeling that SL may be regretting the fact that he didnt put that extra little bit needed as all the pressure for loan signings and need to buy players in Jan will equal that investment anyway. But instead we get players for inflated prices in Jan and have paid wages of players that have gotten injured early during loan period with nothing to give back to the club when they leave.

Also want to add that DMc has my backing at least until February.

Agree with this 100%

Let's face it, in football as in politics "Long Term Project" is no more than a name given to a "Short Term Project" which fails to deliver quick results.

It is true that changes have been made to the academy and that McInnes has played an active part in them - although it would be quite wrong to suggest he is wholly responsible. It is also true that these changes, even if they prove to be ultimately successful, are unlikely to deliver any tangible benefit before McInnes leaves (even if he is able to overcome the current crisis).

If this is really an long-term project then I would hope to see a viable contingency plan for relegation as this medium term outcome must be considered more than just a possibility.

There is little doubt that relegation will at least see:

1/ the sale of Davies, Baldock, Cunningham and Adomah; and

2/ the release of Stead, Pitman, Heaton and (depending on contracts) Skuse and Kilkenny

Hence a busy summer can be anticipated to build a new team around Gerkin, Ricky, Fontaine, Pearson and Woolford.

Unless we can unearth today's equivalents of Brooker, Lita, Russell, Noble and McCombe we will not be competitive in August and hence we should perhaps be looking hard now and (if successful) signing them in January.

I ask again - if DM is retained through relegation (as many consider he should be) what position do we need to be in at the end of October to avoid his replacement then?

I agree, club need to look at January as a watershed for the future.

What annoys me is people saying mcinnes and the club building for the future with the academy. They've been forced to do something due to the club being a level 2 academy now, should of had these people in place months ago instead of last minute appointments to meet the criteria.
