Sam Baldock

I went to Birmingham where there was nothing wrong with the service to Baldock. He had several chances and completely stuffed them up. Had he scored the team might have been lifted and gone on. Its all very well blaming the other players but I've seen him have at least 3 shockers this season, when the rest were playing alright.

Not that I would wish to even try and guess Derek's team for Derby, let alone any further, I think with our next four or five games we have the opportunity to play two up top which should see Baldock get plenty of game time.

When Davies is back to full fitness the manager will be left with a headache, but I would really like to see Taylor and Baldock get a run together upfront. Taylor, who I thought was once again excellent today, is the type of player who may be able to get the best out of Baldock and I feel they could form an effective partnership up top.

Playing Fontaine at left back today further makes his decision to sign Elokobi and Briggs bizarre.

Why? Neither are available now, the two CBs we started with weren't with us when Elokobi signed (and only one was when Briggs signed) and by all accounts Fontaine didn't exactly prove himself as a natural left-back (or, to be fair, an utter disaster). I don't think anyone'd push for Fontaine to be anything more than an emergency left-back...

and that is my point, Bryan was handed a new contract and everybody thought that he was our back up full back, Fontaine and even Nyatanga could easily have been our emergency full backs.

Why? Fontaine is a centre-back. The switch was made to counter Wednesday's aerial threat. And this is the first time that a pairing of McManus and Bates has been available.

Also I think (I dont know) Bryan is a left midfielder who can play left back so no specialist, and so it seemed appropriate to sign a loan left back. Certainly Elokobi was the type of player we needed.

Briggs did not look as good as Bryan - I would certainly have preferred we did not loan Briggs if we suspected Bryan could do nearly as well as he has done.

Snce he will only improve with games this is to our longer term benefit.

I guess to me it's the difference between having a back-up full-back for someone missing the odd-game with a knock and someone filling in for two or three months due to a long-term injury. Bryan was an unknown quantity and you wouldn't want either Fontaine or Nyatanga there for an extended spell so I can completely see why McInnes got someone in. It's just a shame Elokobi got injured and Briggs never really impressed...

Both Fontaine and Nyatanga are shite at full back - just a tad worse than at centre back.

We needed back up - Bryan was/is an unknown quantity and is being slowly integrated into the first team set up, not everyone thought as you did. It was sensible for McInnes to get additional cover for Cunningham.

To do nothing would have been stupid.

So exactly what is the point of having back up players if they are not trusted and given their opportunities as the opportunities occur?.

You better inform the club then, for some unknown reason they believe he is a defender.

In a player interview a few weeks ago he said, "Obviously I've been playing left back, that's not really been my primary position for much of my playing career but I'm enjoying it".

So yeah, maybe someone SHOULD inform the club. Monkeh is correct.
