Hollowhead, A Nice Old Parallell...

Noticed that Hollowhead at Palace, has hit the buffers a bit. Some memories, City fans who have followed since the dreaded Pulis era may rememeber...

March 18th 2000, the Blue Few looked nailed on for playoffs at worst and actually in a very strong position overall. How could they not given the table at this time:

P Pts GD

1. Preston 36 75 +32

2. Blue Few 36 74 +32

3. Millwall 37 67 +19

4. Wigan 35 66 +29

5. Burnley 35 65 +17

6. Gillingham 34 62 +21

7. Notts County 37 60 +13

8. Stoke 36 59 +15

Like I say, playoffs at worst- right??

Final top 7:

P Pts GD

1. Preston 46 95 +37

2. Burnley 46 88 +22

3. Gillingham 46 85 +31

4. Wigan 46 83 +34

5. Millwall 46 82 +26

6. Stoke 46 82 +26

7. Blue Few 46 80 +24

Hilariously, it could happen at Palace this year...one win in 9 and counting! That 99/00 one though is spectacular in its scope...Millwall 9 point swing, Wigan 11 point swing, Gillingham, Burnley 17, Stoke 17! Got a strong feeling same will happen at Palace!

Already since they were at peak, just 8 games ago...

11 point swing to Cardiff, 9 to Hull and 7 to Boro. Steady decline...

What was the difference between Bristol R*vers and an arsonist?

An arsonist wouldn't throw away their last 10 matches.

To think of the decline for them since then, 13 years since they were anything like competitive and befitting of the term 'rival'. Even then they bottled it, how different things might have turned out had they managed to take their opportunity to take a lead on us?

Only poor little gas heads......

Talking of Palace...

When City made the playoffs in our first year back in the Championship, City played Palace whilst Hull took on Watford.

Five years later Hull look good for Auto whilst Palace & Watford are in the playoffs again. All three clubs have changed Manager & players but have remained consistent.

Going back to 2000; yep, the Rovers were in 6th spot going into the last game, but Millwall won away whilst Rovers lost at home to all ready relegated Cardiff. Now there's a comparison; 2000 Cardiff down into League 2, 2001 Rovers (& Swansea) into League 2. 2013 - 'nuff sed.

I hate being a pedantic arse!! But the sags lost away to Cardiff, we were home to Preston in a dead rubber, I can remember being more interested in some blokes radio in the row in front of us than I was of the game being played out.

The following season didn't Cardiff hammer the sags on sky tv in the cup? 5-1?!

Wasn't that the season we played Preston at home in the last game , and the City fans went on the pitch at the end and gave the PNE fans as big round of applause?

That'll be it yeah! Also great jubilation when news of the Blue Few's collapse was sealed,

News of their remarkable failure certainly added to the good nature of the City fans that day.

Was that the last time they finished above us?? Got to be I'd have thought , and even that season we had a Wembley trip to enjoy whilst they had to make do with blowing an amost certain promotion !!
