Fonts To Sheff Utd?

Has Liam improved over the last 5 years - NO

Have most of the defence around him been replaced - YES

Do we still have the same old problems at back - YES

6-7 years good servant and all that but like Marvin Elliott needs to be moved on as both gone stale and need a fresh challenge.

Fonts is destined to go along with Marv, Bates, Morris and sadly Stead. McManus will also not have a future with us.

I don't see Stead's likely departure as sad at all, it's time for him to move on.

At his age, and taking into account his overall contribution over the course of his contract, we shouldn't even contemplate a renewal.

Out with the old, in with the new - let's get on with it, and just for once let's not fanny about with high earners but be completely ruthless about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Louis Carey only passed by John Atyeo in terms of matches played? Hasn't he been at the heart of the team since 1995, and a mainstay in two promotion sides? Hasn't he broken his nose on several occasions while defending for the club, and chucked himself in front of the ball more times than one could reasonably ask? Didn't he score the first goal against Crystal Palace in the play-off semi-final? For all his few months away at Coventry, hasn't he been the most loyal player Bristol City have had in most fans' lifetimes?

And you hate him?

And he hit the crossbar on crossbar challenge

Carey's played 1 less than John Ateyo but still yeah i agree i don't know how any fan can hate Carey after what he's done for the club.

Fonts is having a very bad season no doubt about it,

But fonts for him to perform he needs a leader ball winner beside him he hasn't had that

As much as I hate Carey he is the only leader on the pitch we have but he's at that age now where we can't rely on him

We need a player like him to come in so we can get the best out of him again

A bit like shearer and sherringham those to players always brought the best out of each other

Fontaine needs that

This season a side he has been a very important player for us and can be again when he gets form back

You don't become a bad player over night

I have read some strange things on this forum but this is up there with the worst of them.

Hate Carey ?????

No wonder some ex players and staff don't have a good word to say about the place is it?

Just about sums some of our fans up, very short memories, and zero respect shown for City stalwarts who care deeply for the club, and have shed blood and tears for it.

Some clowns think abusing players will help get the best out of them, hardly suprising Fonts hasn't been on his game after injury is it?

Some nobheads can't help but scream and shout dogs abuse at players, as it's the easiest thing in the world to do, next time why not try encouraging a player who's trying his best, you never know it might just spur him on if he knows fans are behind him, strange concept to some I know.

Carey, Fonts, Marvin, Skusey all been voted players of the year by fans, I think they above all others they deserve respect.

Try to show some it'll make you a better human being.

Yeah we're all magnanimous now, when our legends took us from the first to the fourth deviision in successive seasons..

Player of the season!!! was'nt the rookie, Steve Cauker given that?

I dont abuse players but now tinman and super have left, the footy aint that good...

I hope their scouts took notice of him at Millwall.

Particularly his impressive positional ability by being aware that Henderson didn't need marking for the corner and instead he was much better served picking up the same man as Neil Danns.

Also I hope he saw his distribution ability.

One move of note was when he dispensed with the need to bring the ball down and find a man and instead, faced towards our goal and booted the ball over his head.

What other players would have that tactical awareness to find the Millwall central midfielder with that move. That way he gets more practice at defending by giving it straight back to them.

What other player is so popular that he receives huge cheers before half time when the 4th official raises his number?

Now THAT is popularity.

Bang on Fonts has had a tough patch, but some of the stick he is getting has been terrible on here, of Fonts has the right partner alongside him he's a class act, this season he has had a different partner every game, the pressure of the captaincy put on him by the manager, been probably our most experienced player in the back line not a role he relishes, and fans on his back. For many seasons he has been a very steady and reliable player for us. Id be disappointed to lose him as he still has a role to play in partnership with a ball winner/no nonsense defender. That said a move could be best for him and a new challenge!

They've all had to play alongside ever-changing defensive partners, but no player has looked as utterly abject as Fontaine. I think he's had one solid game (Boro away? My memory is fading) and been utterly horseshit in all the others.

The guy's been great for us in the past, but we shouldn't be carrying a player who can only perform alongside a "ball winner/no nonsense defender". He should be a ball-winner/no nonsense defender himself. Over the past 25+ games he's been a "nonsense" defender and his wobbles have made McManus, Heaton etc look very nervous.

It's debatable as to whether he can improve after a spell on the sidelines. i'd love it if he can. In the meanwhile though, I think we should take any offer for him that might come in.
