Mendip City
First name that came into my mind. An essential cog in a great team. That's right... In years to come I think we'll really realise how good some of that team were.... Packed full of character throughout.

mcbcfc
Steve Torpey got kicked pillar to post week in week out but was vilified by a section of City fans never understood that. Tommy the Doc was always my favourite. But the best player in that position in the past 20 years was Cisse he'll never be an idol but had qualities beyond our club

Red Skin
Some great names already mentioned. I used to love watching Greg Goodridge play for City. Had that confident W Indian swagger, used to regularly bamboozle his full back with ease, and seemed to score loads of last minute goals to get us a win. Mendip City
This is turning into a grafters and characters list, here's my X1: Basso; Orr, Carey, Taylor, McAllister; Newman, Hutchinson, Marv, Smith; Dele, Morgan. Subs: Waugh, Moyes, Humphries, Shelton, Shutt, Cooper, Riley. I'm sure there are plenty of other candidates but that lot would take some beating! SWRed
Enoch for me was a decent player and scored some important goals as well.

Didn't he say that he would have crawled across the Severn Bridge on his hands and knees to play for City?
Mendip City
Didn't he say that he would have crawled across the Severn Bridge on his hands and knees to play for City? Yes! I liked him and never understood why he was so unpopular.
bearded_red
Yes! I liked him and never understood why he was so unpopular. I was only a kid at the time, but I do remember my dad liking him and always saying that some of the abuse he took was extremely harsh. So you weren't alone! Cunnyfunt
Darren Barnard. I thought he was quality. I was a bit to young to remember Martin Scott (who I'm told is our greatest left back) but Barnard had a great left foot. I always preferred him to Brennan and Bell. allyolly
What about Andy Leaning? Oxford Utd in the league cup. Anyone remember that in the mid 80s? Best goalkeeping performance I can remember from a city GK.
Oops
What about Andy Leaning? Oxford Utd in the league cup. Anyone remember that in the mid 80s? Best goalkeeping performance I can remember from a city GK. I hate to break it to you but Andy Leaning was WAY after mid 80's. Mid 80's was all about uber-dwarf Keith Waugh. We got rid of the best 'keeper at City in decades when we sold Chris Weale.

Peter O Hanraha-hanrahan
Some great players already mentioned, especially David Smith. No ones mentioned David Seal or Ago. I thought both were decent players. Didn't one go on to play in the Champions League whilst the other ended up at Mangotsfield via Northampton? Also, Soren Anderson. BristolCity1992
Andy Scott was my first hero. If it wasn't for injuries I think Billy Mercer would have been number one for a while. Lee Mathewes will always be remembered for that penalty against 'Wall.
TRL
Scott McGarvey - got loads of undeserved stick but was actually alright (silly hair though). Same can be said of Steve Torpey (not the hair bit). Carl Shutt was brilliant, worked almost as hard as Nicky Morgan. Honourable mention to Dean Horrix - think he would have been a real favourite. Didn't Morgan effectively replace him? Maybe not, the memory ain't what it used to be. Morgan replaced horrix
And Its Smith
Mark Shail never ever gets mentioned but he was good for a few seasons in this division. Kevin Nugent was a tryer....

Welcome To The Jungle
we'd have gone up automatic if lee Johnson didn't get injured for all the stick he got that is probably true. Nick carle...nothing on the mighty midget
David Brent
Paul Agostino Darren Barnard Richard Keogh Jamie McAllister Joe Burnell Colin Cramb Some of the less 'headline-grabbing' players but players i've enjoyed watching for City over the years. Super
For me starting out it was Alan Walsh and his dynamite left foot. Also Junior but think that was more for the comedy value!
Gazred
It's Gary Shelton all the way for me. Had a bit of everything, worked hard, closed players down, crunched into tackles, simple passes and still popped up with goals. Don't think we've had a midfielder quite like him since.
