If We Were In "the Dragons" Position...

What if the only other option was the death of the club though? This appears to be what Tan has said over in wooly land.

The club is dead, it is not Cardiff City anymore, it is a Malaysian brand, the colour the name, what next the city they reside in?

Better setup a phoenix club

This.

The reason I support Bristol City is deeper than a desire for glory or the chance to see the best players in the world on the team/playing against the team or being on TV a lot or playing in European competition,

It is about my identity, it is about where I'm from, it's about history. The name of the club and the colours that the team wears are both about the cumulative support for the institution, given by many generations the people who've backed it since its foundation and will do so into the future, god-willing.

I would never accept a change of our main identifying colour (red), a side-lining of our primary symbol (the robin) and certainly not team name (Bristol CITY) for any reason, and certainly not investment, regardless of circumstances. And in this I am cold-heartedly, deadly serious and immovable.

If an investor demanded that we alter our colours for personal or 'branding' reasons (such as Cardiff-formally-City) to, say, purple I would turn face and never, ever return nor follow the club. MY club would have died. It would be a different entity.

This is not just for personal reasons but because what it represents in a wider sence. To me it would be a trashing of the cumulative generations of support, pride and goodwill towards the institution; a slap in the face of those who put their money and hearts into the club when it suffered bad times and when soared its highest.

I pray we never face this situation, but it is my opinion that the Cardiff City originally formed as Riverside AFC in 1899 and who adopted their current name after Cardiff received city status in 1907 DIED the day a inorganic change for selfish marketing reasons was made to their crest and colours. And I would say the same about City if it happened to us.

Any supporter of what replaced it supports something else. Even Glasgow Rangers and other clubs forced to dissolve and reform in the lower divisions retain their identify via kit, name and crest. Those thing matter far more than glory or cash.

The Red Robins of Bristol City forever, no compromise.

This.

I don't think it has made a blind bit of difference on the pitch for Cardiff changing their shirts from Blue to Red. They have always been a tough side and i think they will be up there with Swansea, it was just rebranding to make the club look more attractive. Whether they will gain more supporters now is indeed a big question.

I'd invade the pitch during a game with I'd imagine hundreds of others and 'suggest' against the change, organise petitions, physically threaten the potential new owners (joking of course) ...kind of.

I'd let the club die a dignified death rather than rebrand my club.

The Premier League isn't important to me, in fact I despise it. BCFC is far more important than the EPL to me.

I dont feel sorry for Cardiff Dragons because they have done NOTHING to stop it, no fight, no pride no self respect or moral standards. These so called 'hardcore' Cardiff fans that people feel sorry for - where are they? Where were they? They bent over and took it and the ones that didn't like it watched it and walked away without as much as a sound.

I know for certain we would never let that happen.

**** modern football and all it stands for.

It's a very different situation for Cardiff. They have had recent (near) successes and are on the verge of the Premier League. Their attendances have doubled in the last couple of years - so perhaps alot of their fans don't know any better and/or are to an extent glory hunters.

Thing is with their rebrand, Tan doesn't care what the 25% of the core say, and if they stop going to matches, because at the end of the day there will be enough demand from plastics to fill their ground once they get into the Prem. I hope the situation would be different for us, and alot would stop going, but sadly if we were in the Premierhship, alot of plastics and newbies would take our places. Bristol is probably one of the places with the highest amount of general football fans, without supporting the local teams - they would go. That's why with these things it's important to nip them in the bud - they had a chance to protest but many were like nothing else will happen.

So if you had been a Bristol South End supporter would you have stopped going when the name changed to Bristol City?

A bit different, that is 3 years of history rather than over 100 years of history, things often change in the formative byears of a company or sports club.

Football clubs are about communities and the place you live.

Any rebranding such as what the Tan's have done has no place in football.

I would sooner stop going

I was going to post something earlier but not really had time until now, it relates in part to something that TRL says.

Football clubs are about communities and the place you live.

This is the important part for me, something others don't really seem to care about - oh they say they do, but how much ?

Well they care about it so little that if the team changed it's name to Bristol and wore white at home apparently they'd stop supporting them. The local team, place you go to as a community / your club doesn't matter anymore - people are saying they would simply stop going / would not support their local club.

If sometime in the 70's we became Bristol Athletic and went back to Bedminster / southville colors then would the people be saying they will not support the club because they want a team called Bristol CIty that play in Red ? No of course not, because they would have grown up and supported a team in different colours with a different name - and any suggestions of changing Bristol Athletic to Bristol City would have them saying they would stop supporting them - which belies the Football clubs are about communities and the place you live - because if you truly believe that, you would support your local club.... the name name, brand, Robin, songs, is all irrelevant at the end of the day if you truly believe that people should support their local teams then that's what you do.

Quite agree. Football has already become what it has become: if people are unhappy with the way the game is going (and has already gone) then the time to take action is now, not when a far eastern businessman wants to change the colour of the team's shirts. We are all in the modern game, and if you don't buy into it then now is the time to go and support Forest Green Rovers (who are actually striving to get into the league themselves). It was the same game in 2008, when we were all at Wembley urging CIty into the Premiership, in the full knowledge of what that would bring in terms of the further commercialisation of our club.

In the seventies Bristol City modelled itself as a club of the west country, not just Bristol, or South Bristol. If football clubs are about communities then they do not make autocratic decisions to change their identity. Clubs = fans.

So if 'Football clubs are about community and the place you live', where does that leave us City supporters born and bred on the 'other' side of town then? Our local communities tended to be more prone to Rovers than City when I was growing up. Luckily, my dad was a red.

I appreciate, 'local community' could mean the whole of Bristol, the whole South west, how far does it go and does this still apply in the modern game? I would hope it does but maybe it applies less the higher you go?

Secondly, my point about not supporting a Bristol Bullets in white was poorly put. What I meant was, could I stomach seeing our club ripped assunder a la Cardiff with little or no thought for the fans or club history? I don't think I could in all honesty!

Bristol Shoguns?

Or one of the London community based clubs that plays at Wycombe, Watford or Reading?

Possibly Bristol when they move to BS3, though I'd sooner go and watch Rabo games in South Wales, especially if they're playing one of the Irish provinces.

I note your point about the now-abandoned re-naming of the Bristol RFC side, but several of the English teams have silly names like Sale Sharks, Exeter Chiefs, Newcastle Falcons, Worcester Warriors... Given the fact that rugby union has only been professional since (I think) 1996, you can't really compare it with football since much of the re-branding came in with professionalism.

Of course you can compare it, the rugby clubs were truly at the heart of the community and abandoned the community at the altar of mammon. No different from Kuadiff or MK Dons.

What proof have you got that they have done NOTHING .Do you honestly feel that you have the monopoly on caring for your club?.I have no anger towards The average Cardiff supporter and to say that they have no fight ,no moral standards,no pride and no self respect is a disgrace.Explain to me how as football supporters you would stop this?Cardiff City supporters have been shit on by Owners coming from abroad and they will certainly not be the last bunch of supporters this will happen too.As for us we should be thankful Landsdown seems to care about the club .But believe me he could sell to who he wants and theirs nothing we could do about it .

Why do you have such a hardon for cardiff? Most of your posts are defending them.

A boycott would have been all it took for fans to get Tan to do one, they didn't even try it.

They done NOTHING of note. They could of made the point of they would rather see CCFC die than become what they are now. Tan said its either my backing and change of brand or no backing - that was their chance and nothing was done, they accepted it and I stand by my comments. If they had died and chosen to turn their backs on Tan I would have had respect and genuine sorrow for them. Their greed kept them silent, they chose this which in my opinion backs up my previous comments.

Modern football is vile, however I'm certain if the time ever comes we will stand up for ourselves and have some dignity and fight.

Cardiff used to be a proper place to go, an incredible atmosphere and very intimidating there was mutual respect and although I despised them I respected them many will say the same. That was Cardiff, this isn't.

Your "act" gets better by the day ;)

Your Cardiff, so stop this pretend bollox.

You need to get out there and protest about your owner, rather than come on here and make a fool of yourself.
