Bristol City Head Coach Sean O'Driscoll is interested in MLS player Alvaro Saborio and the Slovakian international Peter Styvar.

:clapping::grr:

Yeah mate. Did you see Saborio at the Ricoh?

Never understood why GJ bought talented players and seemed afraid to play them (obviously Styvar had problems so is an exception) but Saborio and Sno for example were either not played or played out of position

Saborio and Maynard together were dynamite as they showed at the Ricoh and then .................... ??????????????

Maybe Gary was jealous?

Or maybe it was the fact he only scored twice in 19 games afterwards?

That old cliche, what with Hartley in centre mid at the time?

What because Hartley was brilliant for us? Don't you remember him being dropped for spells throughout the season (at the expense of LJ)

Saborio has scored everywhere he has been, including at international level. Fact is GJ was playing shitte football that wasn't in anyway beneficial to Saborio's game. Along with the use of Sno on the left, this in itself was inexcusable.

As I understood it, Saborio was a good player who simply didn't settle in Bristol. He wasn't underused by GJ but he never found his form, either.

Maybe if one did some digging there might be underlying reasons for why Johnson had so little joy with foreign signings but in Saborio's case it was neither under use nor playing in a poor team.

Wasn't his missus Miss Cuba or some shit like that who stayed in South America I would certainly miss tapping that.

It's been the story of City in recentish living memory. we haven't had much creative football in the feet of our midfield.

Doesn't matter how good your strikers are if they never get the ball.

Maynard had the talent and strength to make a lot of his own goals with little in the way of service.

Well he played 40 of the 46 league games that season, so which "spells" were these?

Suprised he got that many considering we were playing hoofball.

Completely agree the standard of football at the end of GJ's reign was awful, started declining after Christmas the first season in the champ. It's a shame as I thought he was a good player. I think the football we played was a reason a lot of the foreign signings flopped as they were used to playing it on the floor
