Who won the Welsh Cup in 1934?!

True! However in the 1960s the Welsh FA decided as the winners of the Welsh Cup would play in Europe, only Welsh clubs could represent Wales. So City, Tranmere and a few others stopped playing in it. In the late 80s, the Final was between Shrewebury and Hereford. Consequently one of the losing semi finalists played in Europe as they were the highest placed Welsh club in the competition.

Renton in Trainspotting got it right "it's shite being Scotish...etc etc"...they know it, we know it..they weren't whinging on about sabotarging our league when they were champions of Europe..maybe they should have thought of ways of getting their own game more competitive previously instead of monopolising it. They'll be more hated than Millwall down here. Typical they've come up with this scam, even though I thought they wanted Ireland .... issues, this lot.

"For a decade or so, it has been one of Celtic FC's stated aims to secure entry to the English Football League system. They were the first British club to lift the European Cup and have a global supporter base rooted in the Scottish and Irish diasporas that is thought to number several million. Although it is generally accepted that they have long outgrown Scottish football, previous overtures to England about joining its league have been rebuffed. Uefa, European football's governing body, also takes a dim view of cross-border league arrangements. Meanwhile, Celtic supporters have looked on with envy as what they consider to be boutique clubs such as Chelsea have developed pretensions of European grandeur".

Remember the "Atlantic League"? 10 - 15 years ago Celtic & Rangers realised they needed competition and approached the big two in Holland, Belgium, Spain and Portugal about forming a League that would help it's members by providing strong competition.. UEFA stopped it before it started as tey do not approve cross border leagues.

Of course Celtic could always give £2 million to each of the other teams in the SPL and then they might have stronger opponents.
