Testemitanu

Interesting interview in tonight's England programme with Testemitanu. He talks fondly of his time at Ashton Gate (apart from when he first arrived at the club and apparently got slated by the other players for not wearing designer clothes), speaks highly of Tony Pulis and the support he gave him whilst at Ashton Gate (and apparently he took his UEFA Pro Licence at Stoke), and ends the interview by saying 'who knows, one day I may help Bristol City into the premier league'.

I hadn't realised Tony Fawthrop scouted him in England's 3-0 win in Chisinau in 1996 (a game which was Beckham's international debut, and also one in which Testemitanu himself missed a penalty).

We can fashion a shock win says Ion Testemitanu

IF MOLDOVA assistant manager Ion Testemitanu is spied nervously checking his clothing in the dugout when England run out to face his side tonight, there is a reason.

The former Bristol City star remembers how his former team-mates at Ashton Gate were so incredulous at his old-fashioned Eastern Bloc clobber when he turned up at the club 16 years ago they hid it and told him they had sold it.

Testemitanu has fond memories of his time in Bristol and admits he owes a big debt to then-manager Tony Pulis, now in charge at Premier League Stoke.

Testemitanu, now 38, was signed for Bristol City by Pulis, who had been impressed with his performances as a midfielder in the 1998 World Cup qualifiers against England. The pair are still in contact and Testemitanu recently spent time at Stoke as part of his UEFA Pro Licence course.

“When I first went to Bristol in 1998 they laughed at how I was dressed. They said I looked like a sailor. They thought I came from the past,” said Testemitanu.

“It was hard to adapt. I came from an ex-USSR country which was very strict. I didn’t know the language, how to dress, how to behave. None of the players had even heard of Moldova.”

When I first went to Bristol in 1998 they laughed at how I was dressed. They said I looked like a sailor

But Testemitanu, who won 53 caps for his country, believes the absence of the injured Wayne Rooney gives his side a real chance.

He said: “Rooney not playing is very big for us – we are very lucky. We have a chance now.”

Was indeed signed by Benny and a GREAT signing he was until injury, AMAZINGLY John Ward had him on trial in Pre-season and didnt rate him, instead we ended up with Julian Watts.

Was a fantastic defender, both ours and Wards futures would have been alot different had he signed.

Same can be when Ward also turned down Emerson Thome, who then joined Sheffield Wed for 12 months before joining chelsea for £3m

Ward just couldn't spot talent, people underestimate how much of an influence Terry Connor had on the teammand the promotion season, the way their careers have gone since sums it up.

Just realised that this was actually from 2012!!!

Anyway, the quotes are still relevant, even the fact that Rooney was not playing!!!

Thought it was, was there watching that game it was rather eventful.

Crowd trouble 2 injuries ref playing till WBA scored, think that was game that started to seal our relegation.

But from Xmas till the end of the season that team battled for everything and never gave up. Still think if Benny had stayed after relegation we would of gone straight back up.
