Price Of Football: The Premier League - Then Everybody Else

When I booked for the Shrewsbury game, I was pleasantly surprised, not only by the advance prices, but by the reduction in the iniquitous POTD mark-up. The penny seems to have finally dropped that football fans don't have unlimited amounts of money to spend.

Now, if I can only find that "Livestock, insectivorous, admission of to ground" form, all will be well...

Bristol City commercial director Kevin Smith said: "Following relegation we felt strongly that, in the wake of feedback from supporter groups, the right thing to do was to reduce prices for 2013-14.

"The response from the fanbase was very positive and sales were terrific, leading to a positive feeling around the club going into the season. Attendances for three of our early home games this season would be in the top five Championship attendances."

BBC radio claimed this morning Peterborough are in the top 5% of admission prices for league 1. Category A games £20 in advance, £23 POTD; Category B £18 and £21.

The BBC sent a reporter to gain admission to the cheapest part of the ground, buy a programme and at half time a pie. Total price £28.90

Cambridge Utd are in the top 5% of admission prices for the Conference. Pies at the Abbey Stadium cost £3.

For the JPT 2nd round v Brentford, to encourage fans to attend, prices are slashed to a fiver for the night.

Cheapest day out for admission, programme and a pie is Alloa Athletic. Pies are only a quid (don't ask what's in 'em) and £14 to get in. A season ticket is £180.

Last season Ipswich had expensive season tickets. If you knew you would miss at least 4 games, then it was cheaper to POTD.

When I started supporting City in the 60's and still in the 70's, a ST gave you admission to ALL first team games at AG; League, League Cup, FA Cup, Anglo Scottish Cup, Friendlies plus Reserves, and Youth team.

In 1981 when cash was needed in a hurry, City offered a TEN YEAR ST for £500. For comparrison, a brand new Ford Escort Estate was £5,000. Of course we didn't know if we'd have a club in ten months time, so I don't think too many were sold.
