Interesting thread this. In terms of following sport I would class myself as a Bristol City fan first and foremost. Beyond this I would rather watch the NFL than a random football match. I haven't watched match of the day or the football league show all year. However, on a Sunday night I get sky sports 3 on for the NFL.

I lived in Illinois for two years. Before I went to the US I would have been one of the people on this thread who is negative about the NFL. However, if you take the time to understand the game it is really tactical and interesting. The fantasy "football" for NFL is also far superior to FA premier league ones.

Go Bears.

Maverick

Nice to see another Bears fan here :)

Wouldn't even classify 'chuck and charge' as a sport, let alone demean the term 'football' for use in its title.

As for Wembley, went on a tour the Thursday before the last American game. Highlighted the issue of the pitch markings referring to how Ashton Gate was wrecked when we had the dim idea of staging an Americana event. Tour guide said despite having the latest pitch technology they have to let the grass grow and mow out the lines to eradicate them. Just great isn't it, two of the most important matches in the FAs history and our pitch looking like Banky's had a go at it. A disgrace.

Clueless, if you took the time to watch a game you would understand its a very tactical game not 'chuck and charge'.

We already thrashed Montenegro and should despatch Poland so don't know what you are moaning about ffs.

Yes sir, one of my mates from work is a Coventry City fan who has gone out to Philly every season for more than a decade and he hooked us up as he has some really good friends out there who do the whole thing (I had another two mates from Dallas who are Cowboys fans who flew out to even up the support - although they like me STFU inside the stadium). It doesn't compare to Arrowhead tailgating though, but at least it was a night game so the drinking was easier!!!! (Arrowhead KO normally noon so tailgating starts far too early for me). The one good thing at the Lincoln is the NBC sports bar/nightclub in the carpark, went in there after, what a blast!

Wow - I remember, the Dick Vermeil era, awesome O-Line and running attack. Must have been incredible to live there, I love the place, so friendly and authentic, a lot less plasticky and touristy than other US cities. I've followed the Chiefs going back to Christian Okoye, Derrick Thomas, Neil Smith era, although do recall seeing them on C4 even before that when they had players like Stephone Paige and Tamarick Vanover, but I was too young to really adopt one team.

Those who know the story know I'm a City fan because they wear red (moved to Bristol from Lisbon at the end of the eighties and didnt know which local team to support, but already had an aversion to blue and white - Porto - and grew up supporting the team in red - was later very relieved to find I'd saved myself trips to Bath !!). In the end it made sense to take the same logic to follow Kansas City too. So by my counting with the old boy outside El Rincon that makes three of us. There is a UK fan group on Facebook too. Raiders game tonight is massive, wish I could be there, have Gamepass so get all the games streamed to my TV, they're going for the Guiness World Record for crowd noise too. Come on you reds!! :)

I was at arrowhead for Dante halls 93 yard punt return vs the Donkos. Unbelievable.

The chiefs are playing well this season but that 2003 team was amazing to watch

Ole I'm a chiefs fan as well, lived in KC for a couple of years and followed them ever since. The first season I was there was 2003 when they went on a great run but lost in the play offs. Arrowhead was unbelievable when I went there.

To anyone who follows the raiders, their fans are utter utter scum bags. There trademark is to sneak AA batteries into stadiums and throw them at opposing fans as well as piss in bottles etc

It's chiefs V raiders tonight! Massive rivalry. And to anyone who thinks the nfl is soul less, they are trying to break the world record for crowd noise level at a sporting event. The fans are absolutely crazy

I'll give you the fact that the Raiders do have a bad reputation and there is a minority that go way too far, however to tar all Raiders fan with the same brush and call us all "scum bags" is a little extreme. Every team has its fair share of knuckle heads that give the real fans a bad rap, including City, however just like in all sports the majority of true fans enjoy the banter but don't take it to the next level. The chiefs are on a good roll right now so we do have a battle on our hands but with that being said...come on the Silver and Black .

To be fair Raiders fans are the Millwall of the NFL ;)

Have no problem with the Raiders as they hate the 49ers (my most hated team) so its all good.

Have followed the NFL since being captivated by last second finish between, I think, Patriots and Rams in whatever Superbowl that was. Pretty sure Adam Vinateiri kicked winning field goal as time expired.

Team wise I follow the Giants.

Neither of my 'primary' sports teams have won a game this season.

Boom . .

Tis the Bengals for me having watched them at Cynergy Field on several occasions

BigTone - you my maaaannn!!

I'm a Cincinnati Bengals fan too.

To the OP - the Bengals are the team for you. We've never won the Superbowl and mostly have losing seasons, however, things are beginning to look up and we've qualified for the playoffs in the last 2 seasons. We're an underdog of a team that is now beginning to build a good reputation and have some immense talent that's been drafted in the last few years.

If you want to follow a team that's not your usual fave, who might have a shot at the title in the next few years, then come to the Jungle.

To all of those who slag off this game, I feel for you. It is a spectacular game, full of hundreds of intricacies in every play. I think for some it takes a long time to understand just the basics, let alone the complexities, but it's worth the persevering with.

As someone else has said earlier, I don't bother with Match of the Day or Prem football on Sundays any more, I'm glued to the NFL. Much more interesting. All they ever do on MOTD these days is pick on referring decisions (EVERY GAME!). It's dull.

Another option for the OP though would be the Jacksonville Jaguars. With 3 games coming to Wembley next season, it's now only a matter of time before they bring a team over here, and that team is most likely to be the Jags.

Saints.

Probably the best offense in the league for  the past 6 years or so, one of the best quarterbacks, and the classiest uniforms. Plus they know how to party in NOLA.

Interesting that the other people on here who've declared for the Saints also seem to be Gloucester Rugby fans. Can't see any connection though!

Good lad Dan, City/Gloucester/Saints that's the way to go!

You spoke too soon Woodsy!

I'm like the patriots just for Brady.

Bloody Tom bloody Brady.....sounds like he done his best to lose it, then snatched it at the death! Got a lot of mates that follow the Pats - I really don't like them. They could be called New England R*vers and I couldn't hate them more!

To be honest NFL is absolute crap.

Everything that is wrong in football is ten times worse in NFL.

that's not to say American football is all the same though. I'd recommend finding a college team to support it's just much more interesting than NFL.

Absolutely agree, my team are the Nebraska Corn Huskers, based at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

GBR! (Go Big Red)

Been to see them a couple of times when I was working in Omaha, 79,000 sell-out both times, stadium has been enlarged since and they now get 95,000-ish per game.

edit:- The local NFL team , well sort of local, when I was living in Virginia were the Baltimore Ravens, Redskins were closer but I'll stick with the Ravens!

But the worst defense of all time last season, allowing yardage...

But to be honest, if they aren't in the NFC Championship game at the very least I would be surprised. The only 2 teams I don't want contesting that is The 49ers and Packers.

It's similar to watching baseball, in that you get out what you put in.

If you don't discount it as "fancy rounders" or "fat guys knocking about" and you actually take time to study the game itself, you'll enjoy it a helluva lot.

I'm a huge fan of baseball. It's every bit as subtle as cricket but, like cricket, it does need a lot put in if you're going to get anything out.

Mind you, it doesn't deserve a place on the football forum, either :grr:

Literally drowning in sour grapes today mate - I've had less stick over a City defeat than I have over this game!

Hoping the Falcons play the Saints over here, although I'm sure they won't move a 'derby' game this side of the pond

You can't really count last season fairly for the Saints. Granted Spagnulo was a disaster for them but any team would struggle without its head coach and Sean Payton is even more critical to the setup than many HCs.

Defense has never been their strong point, though Williams' very aggressive defense in 2009 was a big factor. They scored a lot of points from turnovers and interceptions. This season's defense looks to be quite similar to that, though hopefully a little less illegal.

Besides, if you can score like the Saints do then defense is rarely important :D

Seems very aggressive this season... blitz, blitz and more blitz, brutal defense but still not as good as forcing turnovers like Da Bears ;)

I do, its the White Sox and we were dross this season ;).

Like your affiliation with Arizona, mine is Chicago.

Baltimore Orioles, saw them at Spring Training in Ft Lauderdale, Florida and playing the Toronto Blue Jays at the Sky Dome, Toronto... when I just happened to be in town.

The NFL actually has a fairer, less greed-oriented system than the Premier League. Strangely enough, it's almost socialist in nature!

Except that each team (bar Green Bay, which was grandfathered) has to have a private owner.

Except where cities are semi-regularly blackmailed into part/full-funding new stadiums.

Except the rule where unless 90% of a stadium is sold out there will be no TV coverage.

Except the new draconian bag policy designed to bolster food sales combat terrorism.

Except where more games will be going abroad over the next few seasons because they're bigger draws than domestically.

Except where a single hit too low or too high, even by accident, will now cost a player a five-figure fine.

... asides all that, I'm still a Rams fan. They're only shit every other season nowadays.

That part isn't technically true as Jerry Jones spent $1.2billion out of his own pocket to build AT&T Stadium for the Cowboys.
