Lost The Buzz

Sadly when that next happens they will probably be old enough not to ask their Dad where to sit!

True sadly.

But again highlights to me what perennial under-achievers we are.

Look at Reading and look at us - I drive through Reading every day and seriously, when you compare town/city and you think Bristol has a L1 and a L2 club and they have a club of low Prem/high championship quality.....

Gets my goat it really does.

Maybe Reading isn't infested with NIMBYs, Greens and Toytown councillors?

A change at board room level will not retrieve the ball from James' net or reverse that loss to Watford.

I'm sorry, but I find many of these types of posts contradictory to themselves. Is it poor form and results or leadership of the club, that you have issue with, because your post is inconsistent, as are many other people's.

it's all very well using the "the board" as a reason, but I'm not convinced that its not mainly down to results and effectively being fair weather.

That may be so but during all other periods where we've been a bit shit I haven't felt like the people running the club are sticking two fingers up at their traditional support saying "we don't want you here anyway".

Maybe, but it is still about "Entertainment"

I think it is as well.

Take Tuesday. I was happy we had won but it was utterly sh*t and I wasn't remotely entertained for my 21 quid (thats not even considering the petrol money for the M4 and back - but I dont hold the club liable for that part).

There still needs to be SOME entertainment.

I just find it funny that a guy allegedly famed for decent football is presiding over some of the worst football around.

Its completely about performance if we were losing but the game was a brilliant game tackles flying in players putting in 100% battling for every ball the buzz would be there as ull come out the ground thinking we were unlucky not we were crap again do think as a team we are far to soft

Found it sureal on tuesday between about the 30th minute and half time all you could hear in the ground was talking. Normally you'd here chanting, cheering, gasping or some bloke giving verbals. But no just a flat mumble of private conversations. I guess I wasn't the only one bored out of my mind. Seemed like everyone had given up. The players were going through the motions, and the fans were waiting for something/anything exiteing to happen. Very strange going to City at the moment. Still get the buzz of going on a saturday, The socialising and pre match hope that you might witness a great attacking performance.

Unfortunately that buzz gets ruined when you find your seat.

Yeah that's right, the board picks which players we sign .... *rolls eyes heavenward*

Alright Mr Sarcastic, illogical point that one. For the sake of argument they did sign James and Stewart, to both pretty disasterous effect.

The attitude and seeming lack of effort from the players, particularly last season, did however contribute to my losing of the buzz. Not boards fault, but relevent to the thread.

That's badly true.

My dad and I were talking about my work and what's been going on there this week.

Normally that'd be a half time convo but it was 30mins in.

We weren't alone either. The football/hoofball head tennis was just so bad it was unreal.

Everyone seemed bored.

I just thought "what on earth has our club come to?"

All valid points and no doubt, it is a shame that people feel disgruntled. However, I can't help but feel that many of the gripes that people have and claim are purely "board related" would not even be worth a mention if we were sat pretty in the top half og the Championship, or even right up the top in L1.

I have yet to be persuaded that "Lansdown signed James". I know it's a theory supposedly advanced by a manager who I've heard ITK sports journalist say has various "issues", but it's certainly not established fact. As for Stewart, if they did sign him, perhaps they thought they were interviewing a car-park assistant!

I have to say I agree with your last sentence and - me too. I still have my ST however. Some would say that's loyalty, others masochism!!!   :laughcont:

The most "Factual" account that I have seen, which appeared to come from direct quotes involving those central to the transfer, was that SL saw that DJ was looking for a move to this locality, so he sounded him out to see if it was even a possibility.

When there was a positive response, SL asked Coppell if HE would like DJ added to the squad and SL himself would worry about wether we could afford him. Coppell said yes, of course! It was then Coppell who rang DJ, on his stag do, iirc.

The transfer then happened. Basically SL wanted to make a flagship signing, Coppell want happy to have him if SL could afford it and DJ was happy to come.

Obviously, in hindsight, it didn't work out to be as productive or effective as everyone had hoped, but I certainly remember how buzzing I was when I first heard that DJ, the man who's last game had been in the World cup for England! was at AG about to sign for us!

How anyone can criticise SL for showing that kind of ambition is beyond me!

Quite.

That squares with what I've heard, BBS3.

That's pretty much bang on my view.
