Rocking Red Cyril
Enjoyed our much improved performance yesterday and whilst enjoying a half time can of natch was told by Bristol City employee Shorey and Harewood have had their contracts finished as of yesterday morning. !james
Shoreys contract expired today, Harewood signed a one year deal last summer so we would have to pay him off if we released him
ciderbeans
Knew about Shorey. Stockhausen pasted it all over twitter pre game. If harewood rumour is true that's a good thing. Again, someone who doesn't contribute to the first team and could be seen as getting a final pay cheque. Probably a nice guy but in our position, we can afford to have wasted wages
BRISTOL86
Harewood was a ridiculous waste of wage money. Absolutely bizarre signing. Shorey was next to useless from what I saw of him, expected much better from such an experienced pro at this level. Greg was superb yesterday, long may it continue. Super
2 wins and Harewood gone. The perfect Xmas.
Kid in the Riot
Shorey was a massive disappointment. He's heading the same way as Nicky Hunt - to League Two. If he's lucky.
Loco Rojo
Cant fault Harewood's passion or comitment in the shirt in the little time he was given on the pitch. I guess its difficult for him to do much when we only play one 'striker' up front and it's Baldock in front. Good luck to him wherever he ends up next. hippy273
Shorey was a massive disappointment. He's heading the same way as Nicky Hunt - to League Two. If he's lucky. Age has started to take it toll with Shorey moreso i think.
samo II
Based on Boxing Day, Shorey is no loss. Good luck to him elsewhere. But to pay off 6 months on Harewoods contract (which can't be big bucks, surely) when if Baldock AND JET suddenly became unavailable we are left with just Burns (no league goals) and Taylor (2 goals for us in three years) up top seems hasty. At least leave it till late January when we've got time for a replacement to be brought in, although maybe this means they have one lined up? He might not have set the world alight but hasn't really seen the green much, and being he's one of only 8 players other than JET or Baldock who have scored in the league this season, that has to count for something! Corleone
With Harewood gone certainly indicates Cotterill will be in for a forward in the transfer window. Harewood was clearly shot.
reddogkev
Pleased by this, clearing up some valuable space in the squad for an injection of fresh talent.
cider_dog
Shorey obviously has ability - he just didn't give a s**t. Harewood obviously gave a s**t - he just didn't have the ability. So better off without the pair.
Mad Cyril
Pleased by this, clearing up some valuable space in the squad for an injection of fresh talent. Not sure if space is a requirement so much as budget. Paying someone their next six months wages up front is not a cost saving and does not finance a new player. Oxford Red
Neither of these were good signings and both were a waste of space. Though I have heard that Harewood is a really nice fella.
ciderbeans
Paying someone off does not affect wages. Wages affect wages. I'm sure SL was happy to dash away 50k to release harewood. Probably had it in his wallet

ciderbeans
It's offering these pointless players the contracts in the first place that notches up the debt. The fact that we have reduced the wage bill by over half in the space of a year shows we are making improvements and to spend 50k or whatever it is to free up harewoods wages for a better striker needs doing, it's a no brainer

So basically a steward told you he's gone and you have believed him. Harewood is here till end of season, signed as backup and mainly to help the younger players in the squad which he has been doing. ciderbeans
Basically the fifty grand expense comes out of for example the transfer budget which doesn't count towards wages and by paying him that, he cancels his contract thus freeing up the 2/3k he was on a week for another player. Does that make any more sense?
nickolas
I also heard we were only at 46% of our wages budget so surely we cant make losses this year?!
Dolmanator
His contract is up on January 13th according to the OS. So thats Harewood, Kilkenny, O'Connor, Shorey, definitely gone. Maybe Fontaine as well ? McLaughlin also went back recently. It isn't Harewood definitely gone. Not until bcfc announce it anyway. Same with Kilkenny.
