Tote End Tony

Stupid name , every time they played someone who traveled well (us, stoke, villa chelsea, millwall, arsenal to name but a few) he should have called himself "Cowering, huddled round the side under that bus stop thingy Tony" !

What you on about, the Tote End was never taken once!

Looked like they had a decent turn out at the Cobblers for a bottom of the basement game to be fair.

Rovers fans never tire of telling me that they travel in large numbers and we don't (they took 3000 to Birmingham by the way...) so I assume that they took more than the 1200 we took to Sixfields earlier in the season for a Sunday game.

As a lad I was in the Tote end when it was taken by Chelsea. The rovers ran away, on to the pitch and away from the center of their own End.

if this is the game i'm thinking of , me and a few mates were in the open end with the Chelsea lot. As young lads we used to go to Eastville and support the away team , it was fine in the ground when they found out we were City , hairy walk home though, carnage.

We used to do the same, go with the away fans when they had a mob. Remember being on the Muller Road end with Chelsea, Tottenham, West Ham, Wolves, Forest, Sheff Utd, Millwall etc.Think the chelsea game was a night match, remember getting to the top of the steps and seeing  Chelsea running riot on the Tote. It was bedlam!

I was with West Ham with my West 'ammmm loving friend in the Eastville Open End in 1980 . The following week West Ham beat Arsenal at Wembley to win the FA Cup. West Ham had a great side then including Phil Parkes, Trevor Brooking and Frank Lampard (Senior). There were Gas on the M32 throwing rubble down at us and the fencing to the pitch was lined with Special Patrol Group Police - many with dark glasses and attack dogs. Happy Days. :D

Think they were on there 2 years running. One was a night game(Rovers won 2 1), the year after Rovers won 3 0. It kicked off all along Stapleton road and was on the front pages of the Evening Post, along with both local news stations. I used to go to Chelsea quite a lot then (when City were away) and remember it well.

The first one was a night game, I was there, I wouldn't have been if City were playing. They totally destroyed the Tote and smashed every window in the South Stand when eventually being escorted to the Muller Rd.

The February 1980 Gas v Chelsea game definately had to be on a Saturday afternoon as per the early part of this YouTube video.....

The one I was on about was 5th Oct 76     a Tuesday night.

........I was only 11 years old then. I do remember Chelsea Yo Yo-ing from the mid 70s to late 80s between the first and second divisions. I do know they finished bottom of Div 1 in 1979 - by some way - and we got our highest placed top flight finish since 1910 that season -13th? Did you know that Chelsea have never ever played outside the top two divisions of English football - the only club with that pedigree as well. That's why Chelsea have rarely played the Gas in the league and why we've not played them in the league since 1981.
