Major Isewater
With the arrival of the newbies it is pleasing to see one of the "old boys" Joe Bryan weighing in with goals. He's looking sharp ,let's hope at the end of the season we are fending off outrageous bids from Liverpool ! Who else from last years squad has impressed you ? danrozzell
I know its not much but from little clips from youtube on the ball Bobby Reid looks good but this is probably going to be a tough year for him
pigeon
I think it's going to be a tough year Burns, Reid and Bryan. All three have been around the first team for a couple of seasons now so they really need to be cementing themselves as starters soon. I think all 3 have great potential but alot of young footballers have potential, just not many keep improving as they should.
Guest
Of those three Bryan is the one that excites me the most. I really think the lad has potential; he can play competently in either position on the flank and later in his career I can see him folding into the centre like Tinnion did. Red white and red
Huge season for all three, they need to be cementing a place in the first 11 to fulfil their potential. I think Bryan will play the most games, Reid has lots of competition in the middle of the park and burns will be used mostly from the bench again. Drew Peacock
Bryan and Reid both looked very good at the beginning of last season. Need to be able to keep it going all season long.

I agree with this, Joe stands out for me. Bobby has a technical gift but I just wonder if he is good enough to overcome his size/strength. I'm yet to really see the hype around Wes, I hope he progresses and he obviously is a shining star at U21 level but I am yet to see anything spectacular from him when playing in the first team. I agree entirely with this. Reckon Joe is ahead of the other two in Cotts eyes. Also really like Bobby as a player but he really needs to push on this season. And I'm also not convinced by Wes yet. Very pacey which is always a threat but haven't seen much else yet. I'm quite encouraged by all three though as a group of young players coming through at the same time though. alexukhc
When I think of Bobby I think of Sterling, Joe is doing good and Wes, he's quick but I don't know much else
Rocky
Wes needs to add more to his game rather than RUN in one single line very fast. I'd like to see more of Joe and if he can score regularly in the league, he'd be worth a fortune just because he's also left footed! Bobby is strong lad for his size, he too could do with goals in his game.
Negan
Bobby Reid has looked like a much better player this pre season. He seems to have bulked out a bit and looks a lot more stronger on the ball. Also has a very decent shot on him. Out of the 3 he would be the only 1 I would feel comfortable in the starting 11. I like Bryan and Burns but when they start I feel they weaken the team. Both are very good bench options and good for bringing on in the last 15 minutes or so but not for starting. Bar BS3
Bryan seriously needs to work on his final ball when getting forward. He regularly beats his man and gets to the byline, but after a few weeks of last season, that was the point at which I would sit down, knowing full well that 90%+ of his crosses would be entirely ineffective. If he can sort that side of his game out, then he could be a very good player. Wes is exciting to watch when he is in full flow and can produce dangerous final ball, but he has elements of Ivan Sproule about him in that he drifts out of games for far too long and as I suspected when he was being touted for a starting place at times last season, he does not seem half as effective as when he comes on as an impact sub. Reid had a great start to last season and was certainly making me eat my words that had claimed his size would hold him back from kicking on to be the player that many hoped he could be. However, the 2nd half of the season it was very much the same old Bobby, all to often. If he can find and keep his form of August-November last year, then he is valuable member of the first team squad BUT he needs to do it more consistently and prove that he can be relied upon, otherwise I think that this could be his last season with us. Drew Peacock
Isn't it flawed stat? I understood that was the effectiveness of a direct goal ie headed/volleyed straight in and not goals from phases 2 and 3 of a cross. I also thought more goals came from open play rather than corners. Isn't the number of goals from corners (ie a long, rather than short corner) very low? HoldenBall
Only my opinion but I don't think Joe Bryan has what it takes to make it at this level, for me he doesn't move around enough, he's not bold enough. The amount of times he's one on one with his full back, instead of aiming to take him on he just cuts back and gives it to our fullback. I hope I'm proved wrong but I can't see him pushing through this season

So joes doing alright in your book! Fair point, I am aware of that stat, but JB gets into some great positions through his otherwise good work, only to over/under hit his cross or find a defender. Very frustrating when if he could get improve his supply, it could turn him into a really good player.

Isn't the number of goals from corners (ie a long, rather than short corner) very low? More goals do come from open play...over 70% Then from corners...not necessarily direct... Then Free kicks Then on the break and pens. Crosses come after that.

bcfcnick
I thought Joe Bryan has looked dangerous at times when he has played. Both he and Bobby Reid aren't afraid to shoot but JB has the more accurate and venomous shot and is more of a goal threat. Also, he has a good opportunity to play a number of games this season. It looks like we will be playing with wing backs and, realistically, on the left it's between Bryan and Cunningham with Freeman playing in a more central role. spudski
When I look at Bryan, I see a wing back in the making...not the position he hold now.
CITYAREREDANDWHITE
When I look at Bryan, I see a wing back in the making...not the position he hold now. Agree... You can see that he's not an out and out winger. But when we played Blackpool, he had tom ince in his pocket (was also one one his first game) I think that Bryan would make a great Wing Back and could combine both his Attacking and defensive aspects of his game together. Him and Cunningham will battle for that position this season.
internetjef
Where is this Joe Morrell lad in the equation? Isn't he meant to be the star prospect of the u21s? Appreciate he is a bit younger than the other 3 but is he anywhere near breaking into 1st team squad?
redsquirrel
thing that impressed me most about Joe Bryan was his ability to outjump opposition and win the ball in the air.for his height he has a hell of a jump on him
Aipearcey
I think a lot of people forget that burns is still only 19 and i think he should be given the whole length if his contract to prove himself aslong as he's making it on the bench and being used as a impact player enough to justify his wages.
