KwoodCiderNut87
On average of the last 10 years, roughly 94 points to win the league, though in the last 6 years its been slightly more (barring 12-13) To finish 2nd, it has been roughly 87 points, again it's been slightly more last few seasons. Always Believesham
I make that 70 points! More like 28 wins to gaurantee it! I picked out 28 wins too - Since 3 points for a win came in, 28 wins got teams promotion (even Leeds only managed 27 when they had their 15 points deducted) It looks like it would be a freak set of results that sees a team with 28 wins not go up (or a larger points deduction). Besides, from the remaining 18 games, you'd expect to draw at least 4 or 5 if you've been good enough to win
samo II
Once we're past the 50 point mark (pretty much safety), for me the next milestone is 70-75 (playoffs). Then (and ONLY then) I'm gonna start worry about automatic.

Admin Ian M Posted September 19, 2014 Admin Report Share Posted September 19, 2014 Using Monkeh's refinement (technically of course, it's same points & GD with one more goal scored) then 13/14: 87 12/13: 80 11/12: 91 10/11: 88 09/10: 86 08/09: 88 07/08: 81 06/07: 84 05/06: 77 04/05: 80 so in the last 10 years, 85 would not have been enough for Auto promotion in five of them - and in one season 90 wasn't quite enough to be a point clear of third. But 2 teams would still finish ahead of you, leaving you just replacing the team in 3rd. This method is only good for showing the 2nd placed team could have eased up a little. They were still in this division though and would have needed to be overtaken.

Precisely - it is showing what we would have needed to do, if we had been the second team in the division that year, instead of the team which actually did come second. On any specific season of course it was somebody else - but taking a whole chunk of seasons together, it shows a useful analysis
