SimplyRed
I am a Chicago White Sox fan myself and we are pretty awful Just to point out there is violence at Baseball games, the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry is renowned for it. That must be recent then - certainly wasn't around in the 80's when I was there. It's normally very difficult for fans to follow their teams because of the distances involved. Buckobcfc
The Pittsburgh Pirates have a feeder club called The Bristol Pirates, appropriately they play in the minor leagues. It would be great if The Bristol Badgers were able to challenge the very best then it would genuinely be a World Series. Even pre late 1940s, winners of baseball's World Series couldn't even really call themselves the best team in the USA as the colour bar meant that black Americans played in the Negro leagues. Be great if The Bristol Badgers played the Chicago White Sox in the 2019 World Series, then SL could bung them some dosh to lose it. Although it might be 100 years too late. Those who say baseball is simply rounders obviously have no appreciation for the nuances of the sport. It's akin to saying that cricket is simply French cricket or snooker is simply marbles played with a stick. its called the world series as it was sponsored by the new York world newspaper

It's normally very difficult for fans to follow their teams because of the distances involved. The rivalry is huge in the New York/New England area and you will find both sets of fans in the same towns. A guy was charged with second degree murder in New Hampshire after a 'heated discussion' about who was better... utter madness Boston, NY, Philly and Pittsburgh are not really that far apart either, its a 4 hour train journey which relatively speaking is pretty short. JudgeRed
About 4-5 years ago Bristol Badgers had a ex-New York Yankees player (Name escapes me) join & coach them. They have many players, 3 teams the last time i heard, Bristol Badgers, Bristol Bats, & a junior team as well. The 2 latter teams i'm not sure if are still playing. I have been a baseball supporter for about 10 years now. A Atlanta Braves fan & watch them when i can on mlb.com. Realy miss the days of Braves coach Frank Cox kicking dirt in the face of the match umpire & getting kicked out of the game. Hahahahahahaha

worthyred
I'd prefer us to have an ice hockey team again! We still do....sadly they play in Oxford, Bristol Pitbulls are a credit to this city, the way they have kept going after everything they have had to deal with. Playing in Oxford, quite often training in Birmingham, these guys play for the love of the game put in the miles and the hard yards and are a good team, we need to get a rink back in Bristol asap. worthyred
Would like to see the ice hockey team back in Bristol, I'm sure sl could throw some money at them. The team are alive and flourishing, 'all' they need is a rink! Great bunch of guys dedicated to the sport and deserve to be back where they belong in a rink in Bristol. handsofclay
A couple of months ago I posted on here about that chap who interfered with the ball in an important Chicago Cubs game as he tried to catch a foul ball that was headed for the crowd. The Cubs fielder would've most probably caught it otherwise. The Cubs from a winning position then went on to lose the game from that point on and missed out on the World Series. The poor guy had to be escorted out of the arena as all sorts of abuse was aimed at him and has been in hiding for the last 11 years. I would hardly equate that with the laid back couldn't care less attitude some on here have been attributing to baseball fans in the States. He is still in fear of his life 11 years on! I love my cricket too but can't imagine that reaction or outcome to a similar incident if it occurred in cricket.
