Would we put up with it?

I wish people would stop posing this question as if we are superfans with unlimited power.

If this or V Tan happened to us there is **** all we could / would actually do and we would be powerless to stop it. Each clubs knows that they will keep the majority of their fans anyway and tthe stubborn ones will eventually come back as who can really stay away from their chosen team?

Even if there was a huge otib unity and we were all kicking off, we're such a small proportion of the Bristol city fan population that it would mean nothing.

Don't get me wrong, I would hate it if we changed our colours / destroyed our history or whatever. But it annoys me that people think we are somehow better than those fans of other clubs that are having to deal with these changes.

It sucks but there is nothing we can realistically do.

Luckily with SL we won't have to deal with anything like this anytime soon.

Would any traditional muslim team remove the star and crescent from there badge, so as not to offend Christians?

The whole world is bending over backwards to Muslims right now...for fear of offending...it's gone mental.

Something is driving this 'fear' of offending...and it's all a bit weird imho.

I didn't even notice the cross first, such a minor change I wouldn't be too bothered if I was a Real Madrid fan. Anyway changing the club badge isn't exactly frowned upon that much is it? Loads of clubs do it all the time in England and no one makes a fuss about it

It's not about the change but the reason for it.

I didn't say anywhere in my OP that we were 'superfans' with 'unlimited powers' I just posed the question 'would we put up with it?' to see what opinions were on here.

You obviously would put up with a change of colour or badge just to chase marketing opportunities in other countries.

Some may agree, others may disagree.

I happen to disagree with your line 'there is nothing we can realistically do' - well there is. If you don't like what the club is doing you don't have to go.

But it sounds like any huge change (colours, name, badge for religious reasons) wouldn't stop you.

Fair enough.

It's very much a reflection of English society.

We sit and moan, winge, blame everyone else but ourselves, expect everyone else to do things for us...but are not willing to get off our backsides and make change happen. We have let ourselves become a dumbed down society by letting things happen.

If what happened at Cardiff or is happening at Real Madrid...there will always be sheep that will follow the Club regardless.

Many fans complain about footballers, the wages and money in football...but yet they still keep paying into the pot by subscribing to SKY and going through the turnstiles.

If you want it to change...YOU have to make it change.

If something came along that I really didn't agree with at City... I would stop going. It's that simple...why be a lemming?

I would rather City went bust and restarted in the lower leagues, than represent something that I and others couldn't connect with anymore.

If they didn't... I would go and watch my local Amateur side...it's as simple as that for me.

Great sentiments.

Unfortunately football fans are tied to one brand and cannot shift.  That is often the root of the problem here.

Plus, people don't mind sticking to principles, as long as they aren't inconvenienced.

Tbh... I think it's far deeper than that, and Football Clubs know it.

For example... the great majority of football fans who attend matches are over 30.

Most remember football from their youth, through rose tinted glasses and wish it was like 'how it used to be'.

It was always better in our formative years...whatever age or generation you come from.

I would hazard a guess that most go to watch their Club out of habit and it's not just the game they enjoy.

In fact, the actual game can be the least important part of the day out.

Socialising and meeting friends, drinking, eating....it's a day out for many.

Fans will still keep going...as the Club are the focal point of the social day out.

That's how I see it fella.

Yep.  The club and the game can be a bit peripheral to the day sometimes.
